Just knew Hartlepool away would be in winter!

Unless they start the season in June Hartlepool away is always going to be in winter.

I am certainly! I hope we’re looking at Taft/Karacan types rather than the Turan/Mooney level.

Although we need signings I can’t say I’m disappointed not to have signed Hendrie or Slocombe. Maybe we didn’t try that hard, we’ll have them but only if they’re really cheap.

It looks as if we’ve signed a replacement for Karacan so far. As a bare minimum I reckon we still need replacements for:-
    Howard
    Clarke/Brown
    McGahey/Bedeau
    Gilliead
    Eisa
    Mooney/Olomola
    KVV
Even those 7 would leave us a bit light IMO.

What formerly attracted players to sign for us?
Our reputation as a club – Gone
Above average wages for our division – Gone
The prospect of playing in a new stadium – Gone
Ambition to be top end L1 club – Gone
Quality players already at the club – Gone.
What’s left? The only quick fix, as les said, sign some quality NOW and show some intent!

Surprised Oldham have got the budget for both of them.
Mcgahey could be a quality signing if he keeps injury free.

5 in total for Oldham yesterday and another 2 for the Cods. The tumbleweed must be plentiful down at the SVS.

So we really have learned nothing from last season then.

Sanfran you don’t half talk rubbish! Do you honestly expect someone from the club to notify the fans about every player they offer a contract to? Have you not heard of confidentiality.

Can you highlight the post where Sanfran said that – I can’t seem to find it.

Three threads on a player who’s not signing for us shows how little activity there is for Bruers to talk about.
Time for more “inside info” from the usual suspects?

Yes, 19 out and 1 in does give a little cause for concern. Still, when most of those available have gone it will make it easier to find the ones we want I suppose.

“I’m 28 now and, having had a couple of years out of football due to my injury at Bradford, I need to be playing in the EFL.
I would have loved to have achieved that with Notts through the play-offs and was having injections in my foot to get me through the Chesterfield and Torquay games.”

Sounds like our kind of player.

Got to agree with much of the above, almost like watching The Iron. One shot on target, pedestrian build up and a large percentage of passes backwards. They just don’t give the ball away as much as we do.
Phillips deserves a 3 match ban for that haircut!

If you have a player that doesn’t want to play for you then it really doesn’t matter how good he is. Was he one of those tempted here with unfulfilled promises?

Well he looks happy in that signing photo anyway. Good start. Hope he’s still smiling in a few months.

The more cynical might suggest he’s smiling because he’s signed for the only club that would have kept him in the league.

Will he reveal what multiple of Kenyon’s wages he was looking for? If, as reported, Morecambe had the lowest L2 budget then possibly Kenyon fitted the chairman’s criteria perfectly.

So do you think we should sign a player released by a National League club, possibly will, good shout.

Depends why he’s been released maybe. If he’s not good enough then we don’t want him, if his wages are too high then we can’t have him. Either way it looks a no go.

Absolutely right SS24, first priority for a Cox winger – provide cover for your FB. ( Even if we’ve got the ball.)

Jarvis has already passed Olomola’s goal tally, unlikely that KDT will do the same. Price per goal for OO must be massive, price per minute on the pitch (for us) will be pretty frightening too. Anybody with the knowledge, and statto tendencies, to work it out?

“If this is unlikely to happen it is because Scunthorpe United cannot afford his wages. Simple as.”

Not sure it is that simple. Cods want to keep him, if their offer is similar to ours he might be settled in Grimsby. If another L2 club comes in with an offer significantly better than ours (and probably more than he’s worth) then why wouldn’t he take that? As a NL player with questions over his injury record his expectations shouldn’t be that high. Not somebody I’d be desperate to sign, que sera sera.

“Featherstone always was a tidy player, did the basic work that many are unable to do. Put stability in the midfield.”

Tidy player who’s found his level.

Be interesting to know what type of wage a player likes Oates commands in the National league, although I expect it will now beyond our means.
Nicky featherstone looked a tidy player too

If we can’t compete with Hartlepool wages then we are in BIG trouble.
(Unless Jeff is subbing them of course!!)
