Don’t shoot the messenger BLT, just posting what the rules are supposed to be according to the EFL. It seems we broke two of them with no problem so I’m still confused. Hope the club and the EFL know what’s going on. Of course if the loan was repaid ……………..!!
Shop window for a loan? No idea, just guessing like everybody else.
(Except those that know of course, they’ll be along soon to put us mushrooms right no doubt.)Just found this on t’internet which answers a question of mine above and clarifies things a bit (for me anyway)
“Clubs are permitted to ‘staff up’ so they have 23 players of professional standing, which is termed as players to have made at least one appearance for any club in any first-team competition.
If they have less than 23 players they are allowed, within a transfer window, to sign free agents on a maximum of one-year deals or bring in players on loan for up to half a season.”This contradicts the apparent ‘season long loans’ reported for some players and suggests that they can be sent back. If they are, and my counting is correct, that leaves us with a squad of 20 or 21 if KDT counts. Doesn’t leave much scope without moving some on, does it explain why Wilson hasn’t had a game yet?

Hardly a massive upward move.
Colchester not known for being big payers.
Cost of living higher.
Is life easier down there than under Hill?
Are we desperate for any cash we can get?If we are still under the EFL embargo then we are limited in squad size. To make room for newcomers we would have to move some out and loanees look the best option as it’s hard to see much demand for players under contract. If Wood, Scrimshaw and Billson were on a season long loan can we terminate that in January? I’d be happy to keep Scrimshaw and Billson and extend Hackney but if we can only shift Wood it seriously limits incomings and they’ll have to come from the bargain bin anyway.
As for a RB Cliff, Millen got a 2 year deal and with Rowe, Pugh and now Green as options (not necessarily good options) I think a RB will be way down Hill’s list.
However if we get the embargo lifted…………………….!!(cue alcy)contraindicated.
A fantastic Football Forum word, must be a first, are all those letters in the right order les? How did you not get that into The Unassuming Assassin?
Green will never be a FB, I think Oldham missed a great opportunity by not playing on his lack of defensive knowhow. He looked good going forward but needs the confidence to do it more often and with a better end product.
Also I would just like to mention Tom Pugh! He must have covered every blade of grass today and should have scored 2 goals, if he can add goals to his game we have another very good youngster who could become a decent professional.
You summed him up nicely, my conclusion is slightly different.
For:- Runs around a lot.
Against:- Can’t tackle without fouling.
No ball control.
Can’t shoot.Great away win.
I so hope I’m wrong and lose my £10.But on a serious note, how can a certain unnamed player be slated by one and all over the last half dozen games, and then turn in a mom performance today?
Possibly because his agent has told him that all interested clubs have moved on to other targets after his recent performances? Need this from him every week especially as Jarvis was invisible.
Missing Perry, Scrimshaw, Beestin & Thompson this was far from our strongest match day squad IMO so well done boys, more of the same please.1 user thanked author for this post.

Magic indeed. Wish we had one like him now.
It would be handy to know who’s fit and what sort of team we might put out. Strangely the Club don’t seem to think us fans would be interested in that sort of news. Shop opening times is much more their thing.

Senior moment mick – McManus.
A very merry Christmas to all – even those I don’t usually/often/ever agree with.3 users thanked author for this post.
According to Swann on his interview he said we’d have the embargo to deal with but it didn’t matter because we’d still have the same wage budget regardless so doesn’t really matter.
I thought that the embargo prevented us from paying a fee for players. I don’t pretend to know the details but I’m sure that was stated at the time.
He’d have to take a £2k per week pay cut though wouldn’t he?
Give me a example of ANY year where common cold deaths are anywhere close to Covid levels. Selfish attitude IMO, thankful that we’ll never meet. Open your eyes to what’s happening in the real world rather than just your house.
Im on about the new moronic variant.
And if you confuse death figures by including first off those who died WITH covid alongside those who died OF covid, then confuse things further by insisting that anyone who dies of anything including road traffic accidents, within 28 days of a positive test, be recorded as a covid death, what do you expect from the more intelligent of us except scepticism?Open YOUR eyes.
And your comment about never meeting? Is that a threat?
You forgot to give any year where common cold deaths exceeded Covid.
How can “thankful we’ll never meet” be regarded as a threat? To me you’re a Covid risk, I have no desire to be near you. Is ignoring factual evidence a sign of intelligence then? That’s an interesting stance.2 users thanked author for this post.

I’m guessing at the percentages obviously but that is pretty much what I was trying to say. If Loft only gets 2 chances per game and scores 10% he gets 1 in 5. If a creative midfield supplied 5 chances per game he’d be a 20 goal a season man. So are the strikers the real problem?

If we do fail to stay up it’s definitely the lack of quality strikers will hurt us. Midfield and defence are solid enough, it’s just the last bit you need to score, we don’t seem to have.
I think you’re being very generous WG. Strikers are clearly a problem but, whilst the midfield might be ‘solid’ it is seriously lacking in creativity IMO. Prem strikers score maybe 60/70% of chances, L2 strikers maybe 10/15% so if there is little in the way of creativity and the strikers only get 1 or 2 chances in a game we’re not going to score many. Regarding the defence – ‘solid’ is not the first word that comes to mind, some improvement lately I grant you but a way to go before we can be consistently called solid.

O’Hara looked good but Watson has improved greatly. However IMO there needs to be a credible alternative to ensure this improvement is maintained.
Howard looked impressive on the EFL highlights programme.I think Thompson has played CB before, seem to remember it being mentioned when we signed him.
Suggests to me that Hill is trying to get through to January with our players rather than those on loan. Quickest way to get players in January is to send back the loan players he doesn’t rate and get 5 new ones in if the rules allow it.
Let’s hope the rules and current deals allow him to send this lot back and that Hill has good contacts and he alone chooses the loan players.Another option would be to get the most out of the loanees whilst they’re here. It’s a matter of opinion of course, but I think a couple of the loanees have shown enough to have played some part yesterday. Our top goalscorer (excl. pens) surely worth a go if we’re trying to win the game.
WG wrote:- Jarvis is more consistent throughout the 90 minutes.
Yep, can’t argue with that – he’s consistent all right!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It’s looking like Hill doesn’t fancy the loanees. Gallimore before Hackney & Bunn before Scrimshaw.
The OWS:- “Graeme Lee’s first home match in charge of Hartlepool saw a five-match losing streak in League Two come to an end with a dramatic 2-1 victory over Rochdale.”
George Taft:- “We’re focused on each game at a time and we’re going there to win. They’re on a good run but I think it’s something we can do.”
Well George I suppose a good run of one win in a row might suit us at the moment.
I guess they can’t advertise Financial Manipulator?

Unless the ST Sports Editor wrote the report for the BBC?
Would the ST have gone to Stevenage given their relationship with The Club?Could be a 4-2-3-1 maybe or 4-1-4-1, either would mean Rowe out of position.
Difficult! If the EFL loan is not repaid it seems we’ll be very limited on who we can recruit. Surely any OOC will not be fit for 2 or 3 months and, if we can’t pay a fee, we’ll be lucky to get much in the way of quality. Is Iwelumo still playing and available?? Tomi Ameobi is a big lad and could still be young enough.
