the players are dictating things I reckon and when their skill isn’t enough they’re not getting enough direction to change games in my opinion
Not often I agree with 64 but his suggestion does hold some weight due to playing teams who adopt the same tactic time and time again and we don’t have a plan B to counteract it.
I like Dean and expect us to get out of this league but when it comes to the tactical nous that’s going to be needed the following season from Dean, I’m not entirely convinced he’s going to have that in his locker.
Jimmy has one way of playing and when that doesn’t work we very rarely change it up.
I’ve said for ages that we could do with another striker or two. I’d sit Roberts, Smith, Whitehall and bring in a front 3 of Wilson, Law and Elliot. Max and Ogle back in defence.
Clunan’s been really poor of late too. I’d be tempted in 2 or 3 weeks time once Beestin is back up and running to play him for Butterfield and give him a bit of a rest. We need to learn how to play with not being so heavily reliant on Butterfield.
Also is Clunan doesn’t pick up I’d be tempted to bring a fully fit Pugh back and play him in his place because he’s form has alarmingly dropped off. Clunan’s not been right since his wife gave birth to his first born. Pugh’s been in really good form for Hereford and will be 100% up to speed after another month there.
Definitely need another striker.
Evans looked really shaky next to Boyce and Kelly struggled at RB. Too slow going forward again and I would have brought on Wilson for Roberts who looked pretty poor.
No knee jerk reaction from me after tonight’s game but it’s a worry that whenever teams play like this we struggle as there’s no plan B.
Shocking performance. Fingers crossed we don’t replicate that in the league. Max needs to come back in at CB and we need a natural RB. Ogle can’t come back soon enough.
No urgency 1st half and was the worst we’ve played all season. Beck is the kind of player we need away from home, a proper no nonsense no frills targetman to secure the ball and play off.
I have said this many times before but HMS piss the league is well on her way. No doubt she’s hit turbulence at times but she’s running fine now.
The dodgy captain “Hilton” has well and truly been tossed overboard and we now have one of honour now steering the ship. Mark my words, it’s on ladies and gentlemen.
Beestin is due back soon and Ogle is at most a few weeks away.
Honestly over the moon at the position we find ourselves in compared to only a few months ago. I feared the worst. No doubt still a long way to go but we’ll get there in time.
Up the iron.

Dean said we’re working on a replacement and hope to get it sorted in a week or so
There is the replacement. Only problem is he hasn’t arrived yet.
Well. As long as Fitz stays fit.
I expect incoming on a quarter the wages. To be expected so glad it’s happened sooner rather than later. Dean said we’re working on a replacement and hope to get it sorted in a week or so.
Free transfer GK ?
I think it will work, I believe in her and the people surrounding the club now. If the unthinkable happens at least the ground is secured.

Pugh while not being as talented as other players from a technical stand point is very effective if used correctly. Pugh is somewhat limited but as a simple midfielder used to break up the play, I doubt there would be many better at this level.
I know we have to watch the wages but he’d be very handy to have around because if anything happens to Clunan and we need a genuine sitting midfielder I would choose Pugh over Shrimpton personally.
I think Shrimpton’s the better player overall but Pugh far exceeds him when it comes it the ugly side. I would be tempted to get him back fully fit and confident and send Jenkins back to Leeds.
As I said further up, he’s been doing really well for them and don’t think he can play against us so that would be a bit of a hindrance for them.
i would hope the fact he has a new baby isnt effecting his performances , unless he is breast feeding.
Funny. I was thinking more along the lines of disturbed sleep. Babies often wake up and cry, don’t they ?
Pugh has been really good for them and he won’t be able to play against us. Ogle and Kelly will probably be back in contention.
I’ll go 0-2 to us. Roberts and Smith.
The insistence on playing Whitehall is the only real question I had today when Elliot looked good when he came on in the last game. Whitehall’s been poor for quite a while now.
Clunan was poor but he looked jaded as a lot of the other players have of late. Clunan’s been playing Sat/Tues straight after he came back from injury and plus he’s got a baby to look after, it looks like it’s taken it’s toll.
They can all least have a bit of a rest now and get Beestin, Kelly and Ogle back.

Who gives a toss that we didn’t look great, we won after all. I think the players look tired and have done for the last couple of matches and this little break they have now will work wonders. Beestin nearly back as is Kelly and Ogle so we’ll be stronger from here on in.
I don’t think playing without a natural RB hardly helps either. Only thing I would question is Jimmy going with Whitehall again as he’s been poor of late and Elliot looked pretty good last game.
The away form worries me but we’re going well at the minute. Sacking Jimmy now would be suicidal. That would be a Swann 2.0 style decision.

Fitzsimons never touched their player after Max’s suicidal back pass.
“if Bentley is happy with that then fair enough”
Did you not see the rubbish they were getting away with in comparison to us ?
One of the worst refs we’ve had this season.
1 user thanked author for this post.
That ref was shite and the fact he was from Southport area didn’t help. That tackle at the end should have been a straight red and he only gave us 2 or 3 free kicks in the second half even though their cb’s nearly pulled the shirt of Elliot’s back at least twice and never gave a thing.
Linesmen where crap as well. No surprise their gaffer liked the officials.
Whitehall reminds me a little of Tom Hooper in the sense that he’s got the size and physicality to play that role but hasn’t got the mentality. Hopper won very little in the air and didn’t have the mindset to allow him to back in, bully and hold the ball up and like Whitehall his strength was really ball into feet.
I think actually thinking back Hopper played that role a little better and won a bit more in the air.
I wouldn’t be against Elliot playing and getting a run of games now as at least when he came on last night he gave their CB’s problems. I should imagine with games he’ll start scoring.
Whitehall needs a spell out now and Elliot needs his shot.
Kelly is a few weeks away, as is Ogle. Barrows wanted to carry on despite having his ankle swell up but was obviously taken off so may be ok for weekend.
Moving on to the ref performance, god above he was bad. Whitehall was absolutely awful and that chance he missed was bordering on comical. I hope a club takes pity on us and loans us a striker to supplement Elliot and Whitehall.
According to Dean a week or two ago he stated 4 or 5 needed to go out to help balance the books. Ferris, Pugh and Bennett have already gone with Chapman probably on his way come January to be replaced by a cheaper loan youngster.
Southport can sign Carver on a perm contract to get him completely off the books. Smith will end up going back to Hearts as well. Going by what Dean was told I think all those just about cover it.

He should be, he’s a complete knob.
Elliot in his port match interview from Darlo game stated they wouldn’t be allowed to play against us and Carver has been doing really well for them. Bennett has been playing well for them for the last 3 matches so you would have thought it would massively help us out.
Isn’t that the moron who decided it was a good idea to throw Aidan McCartney’s phone on the pitch because he dared to say something about Hilton ?
I don’t know why the club don’t just slap him with a permanent ban !
No good will come of him hanging around like a bad smell.

I simply explained to you my reasoning in potentially dropping Smith after you took yet another dig.
What you believe in is irrelevant. I’ll ask you again because you failed to answer me.
Do you now understand ?
You absolutely baffle me sometimes!! A couple of weeks ago you wrote this:-
“Smith MOM for me. I thought he was sensational again and looks way above this level.”
And now you don’t want to pick him!!Individually he’s fantastic and way above this level but we need to be more solid away from home and if that possible increased rigidity means not choosing him and law which benefits the team as a whole, so be it.
Why is that so hard for you to understand ?
If you read the super small print at the bottom of the link it states the winner of the first week gets a lifesize wax work model of Hilton.
If we had a genuine targetman with pace we wouldn’t need a huge rejig but we obviously don’t have one. I agree with MK in sacrificing wide men, adding a CM and going with two strikers. Beestin would be perfect but he’ll take a while. Jenkins would do a job.
Dean is allergic to 4/4/2 so what about 4,3,1,2 ?
Clunan, Jenkins and scales in midfield 3 with Butterfield in a free role behind Elliot and Whitehall. Least then it would free up Butterfield to get on the ball as much as possible.
I know it’s heavily reliant on the full backs for width but Denton bombs forward and Barrows when told to get forward put some good balls in the box in the 2nd half.
Let’s face it, Dean’s not going to play 4/4/2. We need to try something different away from home.
We play the nice football we have been doing at home but we need a more direct and solid approach away from home. Jimmy needs to quickly realise that we can’t keep playing this “Jimmy Ball” style home and away because it clearly hasn’t been working.
I still think we’re lacking a true target man to play away from home, a good mobile one who actually holds the ball up and we need to play more direct. Smith and Law cut inside and play almost like no 10’s away from home but they really need to keep their width and whip balls in for a proper targetman.
You can say Bennett was a targetman but he was shite. I know the money isn’t there but we definitely need a genuine good targetman and a finisher.
Those chances missed last night by Elliot were a piss take.

Dean has done superbly well but games like that tonight when we’re down we need to push the boat out and try a different approach. I would have rather he brought elliot on and gone 4/4/2, getting the ball out wide quickly and whipped in and least try something different.
Whitehall didn’t play well at all but we struggled with support up to him so can’t understand why Dean didn’t change it up and just put an extra striker on. Jimmy Ball works well but we need different ways of playing.

I won’t stick the boot into Jimmy Dean but no coincidence that their manager was Curzon’s manager and he did exactly the same job on us tonight.
Dean brought Elliot on and I thought surely he’ll put him up there with Whitehall and go 442 but obviously didn’t and goes with the same formation. Truly baffling was the decision to then leave Boyce upfront to go with 2 upfront at the end.
Elliot though with that miss was shocking and if he scored that we go away with a draw. I know Dean like possession based football but they went with everybody behind the ball and we were being far too patient. Only way you dislodge them and create space is quick play and balls into the box.
Players wanted far too many touches and generally took far too long to make their minds up. Curzon Ashton game again minus the crazy weather. Dean has got the drive home that when playing against teams who set up like this that we need to play quickly and stop messing around.

To be fair he did win the POY awards for simply been less crap then the others which was an extremely low bar. I like Ogle for his determination, doggedness and energy but defensively he has the habit of switching off at times and his delivery into the box for the most part is shocking.
I don’t need to see much of Barrows to be of the opinion he’s the better football between the two, you can tell he’s a lot more refined than Ogle.
Cassidy, you’re talking more about consistency which is a lot different than me simply being of the opinion that Barrows looks the more accomplished footballer from a technique standpoint.
When it comes to consistency we’ll have to see but from what I’ve seen so far he’s a lot more solid and well rounded than Ogle. Put it this way, we haven’t downgraded from having him in the side.
Fingers crossed he keeps it up.
Barrows stepped in effortlessly
People will hate me for what I’m about to type but Barrows is an improvement on Ogle. I like Ogle as he’s tough who never stops running but Barrows is the better footballer.
Ogle for all his upsides is garbage when it comes to delivery the ball into the box and his passing is a bit wayward. Barrows is a lot less rough around the edges.
Beestin back in a few weeks and Elliot is due back very soon. Roberts is getting more fit with each passing minute. HMS Piss The League will arrive at it’s destination come the end of the season.
Fingers crossed we don’t suffer all those injuries again but really for us to have the players we have at this level is a joke. Always did say Butterfield is league 1 standard.
Butterfield is a special individual performing the way he’s doing at this level when it’s so beneath his level of ability, he must know it deep down and yet the goals he’s scoring is absolutely ridiculous.
If we was playing like this in league two I would be hailing his signature as a steal. The best way I can describe him in terms of ability for this level is the gap the Beagrie showed when he played at the level he played for us, as in you could tell he shouldn’t have been there.
Another man that needs a special mention is Jimmy Dean as he’s been terrific. Hilton was a dodgy character to the say the least but he did sign off on Dean and the squad we have now so least he got something right.
