Thought Roberts was poor OK he is coming back from injury but expected more
Give him time, he needs minutes. Patience is needed with Roberts.
Can’t see it sanfran, don’t get me wrong no match in this league is a guaranteed win but at home with a near full strength squad in form, I really can’t see us losing and they are really not very good.
They’re in awful form and we’re hitting our stride now with the added bonus of playing at home. I think 3-1 win. Whitehall, Scales and Laws the scorers.
You never know, Roberts may even score one !
Aiston should have had a minimum three month ban. The worst ‘tackle’ I’ve ever seen. I felt sick.
What makes it worse was Sheldon was down at the corner flag trying to waste time and he flung himself at Sheldon with no intent to win the ball with the referee having a clear view and only gave a yellow card.
One of the worst decisions you’ll ever see. Tackling like that now would probably earn you a 6 month ban.
Lee Hughes was a disgrace as a bloke but I never saw him as that dirty on the pitch
One match against us at home he elbowed somebody in the face and booted another and was a right nasty piece of work all game.
I can’t remember who it was he clumped but can remember him being a right dirty pillock. Lee Thorpe was terrible to play against back in the day, I remember him elbowing people in the head, neck and sticking the boot in.
Thorpe used to get away with most of it though as he was really sly with it, he was a much more sneaky Steve Torpey type. I vaguely remember Cortez belle as he reminded me a bit of a bargain bin John Fashanu.

Hilton was a dodgy pillock but he didn’t half put together a good squad of players !
I do find it a little weird as didn’t Elliot said himself he was looking to be on the board and gave the impression that he was already a director.
Not sure what’s going on there !
That headline should have been “both keepers have their arms broken”. Never seen a bigger thug on the pitch than Smith.
I’ve seen a few on par and one way worse. Lee Hughes at Notts County and Lee Thorpe ex Lincoln used to get away with all sorts.
Worst of all times for me was/is Sam Aiston left winger for Shrewsbury when he steamed into Gareth Sheldon, no intention to play the ball and jumped off the floor two footing him snapping his leg in two. This tackle if committed today would get a lengthy ban, no doubt the worst I’ve ever seen live or on tv.
The ref had clear view very much seeing the severity of it with the screams being heard from Sheldon all around the ground
only gave Aiston a yellow card.Following season he nearly broke his leg again with another needless lunge. Matt Smith had nothing on him.
“He needs moving on” isn’t exactly me saying he should be moved on no matter what !
Look, if we’re able to move other players out and keep him then fine. If we manage to downscale elsewhere which means we can keep him, then also fine. Roberts is a massive talent so if we can somehow financially limp home until the end of the season with him on board and he’s a big help in promotion, even better.
I just think 10k a month for a club where we’re at is ridiculous. That kind of wage is league two kind of money. I’m by no means saying it’s the players fault as he’s been paid what was agreed but it’s still beyond excessive for where we are.
Chapman must be moved on as he’s nowhere near Fitzsimons in ability and he needs games. I suspect he’ll be on fair bit as well. Now that is one player where I would kind of demand he’s moved on as it makes perfect sense for both parties.
Roberts less so because when Smith goes back he can fill the gap. Hearts will receive offers with the form he’s shown here so can’t see him sticking around. The fee Hilton agreed to make it permanent we certainly won’t be able to pay.

Got to be Roberts. Who else would command that kind of wage ?
I don’t care how good he is, he needs moving on and replacing with a loan player. That’s a piss take at this level.
Kelly played RB when Ogle was injured earlier, although he’s a leftie I still think he’s better than Barrows.
Barrows to be fair to him came here off the back of a bad injury and was played in CB which he didn’t look comfortable. If Barrows carries on from last night we’ll be fine.
Looked good last night and will only get better with more game time.

“We have one player on 10k a month in the National League North ffs”
SST, I’m guessing this is Butterfield !
Barrows without doubt looks better at RB than he does CB. I do like Ogle for his work ethic and his attitude but think he’s pretty rubbish technically when it comes to passing and getting the ball in the box.
In my opinion we may be better off with Barrows at RB as he looks a better footballer.
Jimmy dean stated last week that 4 or 5 players would be going out. I’m not sure after they “Carver permanently and Chapman” go that there are many more we could offload.
I forgot about Smith as I can’t for the life of me see him staying post January. Jenkins could be sent back ?
Other than those I think we’d be struggling.
Both loans to be expected, all part of tightening the belt time, frugal days ahead but we knew that anyway.
Ferris, Pugh and Bennett gone. Southport to sign carver on a perm contract and Chapman out the door with a cheap loanee coming in.
Would we need to cut back much more ?
What you all going to do now then, support another team because we put in a bad performance ?
Look, the HMS piss the league was a bit of a tongue in cheek comment as even though in terms of ability, while I admit we’re above all the other teams doesn’t alone win you football matches.
Ironawe sums it up perfectly “Fans are completely entitled at being disappointed cass but also a sense of reality is required”
4 points off the top for crying out loud, Clunan wasn’t match fit coming off a bug, Law and smith won’t be fully match fit just yet. Max is back full training as is Roberts.
We will be better in the future I’m sure.
Was the performance bad, yes course it was but does we need to be completely torn up and rebuilt, no we don’t. People need to calm down and look at the bigger picture, we’re 4 points off the top with 2 more players coming back. Clunan, Law and Smith will all be fitter next game too.
I’m not expect everybody to put on their rose tinted spectacles and praise last night and the whole season but at the same time not be so dismissive and negative.
I will however clearly say we need to be better away from home but as it stands we’re currently 4 points from the top.
It’s just a collection of individuals, it doesn’t look like there are proper partnerships or shape. Got to be Dean’s top priority to resolve that because otherwise we’re going to fall short this season.
I hope you’re on a wind up. Come off the back of 12 goals and 6 points and now following one questionable performance you’re now questioning the whole midfield ?
This forum never ceases to amaze me !
Clunan didn’t look right which is more then likely down to the fact he’s lacking match fitness and recently had a sickness bug. Butterfield looked cream crackered which is understandable as he’s played a lot of football and isn’t getting any younger.
We were poor tonight but important thing is we didn’t lose. Onwards and upwards. Max is now fit and Roberts is near a first team appearance. Clunan has 90 mins under his belt, plus Law and Smith have gotten more minutes.
One thing I will say is I don’t think Whitehall suits to playing as the lone striker away from home. Whitehall isn’t the best at holding it up at home but least we get plenty of midfield runners up to make it that bit easier for him.
At the very least Bennett should be on the bench. I don’t really rate Bennett but with this system away from home when it’s tight and you need a striker to hold the ball up, I think he’d be better suited than Whitehall.
Whitehall reminds me of Tom Hopper in the sense he has the size and physicality but despite that he doesn’t really have the mentality to scrap for the ball and do the ugly side. I think to get the best out of him and Elliot they need to be partnered but Dean won’t do that and to be fair last time we did try that we looked terrible and too open.
Clunan still has his sickness bug but Jenkins as shown last match can do more than a good enough job. I’m still expecting us to win 2-1.
How can it be a missed opportunity if the smoking goat have bought the tickets at full price to almost give away (small donation required) for key workers and service personnel with the donations going to Scunny.
This sums it up perfectly. How this gesture can even begin to be questioned is beyond me ?. People are questioning if it has any long term benefit but I suggest you just take it for what it is.
You have a local business “catering company” who happens to cater for us and they’re looking to get involved by buying 500 tickets out of their own pockets to give to people who wouldn’t necessarily come otherwise with the proceeds/donations coming the clubs way.
Swann and Hilton needed to be questioned but this doesn’t.
I thought this would have been celebrated instead of questioned. Baffles me at times this forum !

We have enough worries of our own regarding the club. I appreciate Grimsby fan base got behind us when we were starring at the abyss but who actually cares that they’re out of form and just sacked their manager ?
Grimsby are financially stable and ran by good people it’s not as if they’re in a position similar to what we were and to some extent still are in.
This post aside, I’d rather concentrate about ourselves and leave them to talk about themselves.

I fancy 1-2 to us. Whitehall and Scales the scorers. Clunan back so he’ll add a bit more quality.
Chapman will probably go and be replaced by a cheaper loan option which makes perfect sense.
Pugh, Sembie Ferris already gone, Carver to Southport on a perm contract and send Jenkins back. All realistic out goings. Chapman should get interest and a club would probably want Pugh. Carver likes it down at Southport and Jenkins can easily get send back to Leeds.
I really hope we don’t lose Smith but if he keeps going like this I can see him getting plenty of interest from other English clubs. Elliot doesn’t really fit this system but if we get rid of him, we’ll again have to get a cheaper loan replacement in and prey he’s good.

£150k quoted at time of signing
You sure ?. Why would we have agreed a fee of that amount as an option to buy, as we never would have had it !. Hilton was the chairman though so I could imagine him thinking agreeing that optional fee was plausible.
50k seems more realistic.
Smith MOM for me. I thought he was sensational again and looks way above this level. Denton was superb though and thought Jenkins filled in for Clunan really well.
Banana skin my eye !
Players back now with more to come back so we’ll be stronger not weaker. I think we’ll carry the confidence on from Spennymoor game so I’ll be expecting a 2 or 3-0 win.
Elliot and Kouogun are back for next match. Law has had minutes as has Clunan so they’ll be better.
Yes, think we’ll win pretty handily.
As said above I hope we only lose the players we can afford to lose. Sembie ferris, Pugh, Jenkins back to leeds and off loading Carver on a perm to Southport.
I suppose we could lose Barrows but that leaves us short at RB cover. To further save money we could attempt to off load Chapman as mentioned above and draft in a much cheaper young loan player. I imagine Chapman been on a fair whack as he was originally brought in as our number 1.
Fitzsimmons is miles above Chapman so I wouldn’t be against it.

Sembie ferris, Pugh and send Jenkins back would cut it down, wouldn’t it ?. I just hope after seeing what we saw last night, we don’t send Smith back or cash in on Butterfield.

As long as we keep the ground I wouldn’t mind one jot. I quite like new showground personally.

Grimsby are on a really bad run. They were tipped to do pretty well this season !
