I remember big hairs last effort when he came back to manage us. No thanks.

I don’t buy that they are all average/poor for this level, sorry not buying it. I will however say the balance of the squad is off a cliff and needs rectifying A.S.A.P

For instance a flat back four with denton and Barrows as full backs with boyce and Max isn’t bad, especially with fitz in goal.

a midfield 3 of Brogan, Beestin and Clunan isn’t poor at this level

A front 3 of Roberts one side, carlton the other with either whitehall or Beck through the middle isn’t bad.

The lack of balance throughout the squad doesn’t accommodate 4/4/2 formation but there are enough good players for this level to play an effective 4/3/3. The kicker is we need an experienced manager who knows what he’s doing to be able to mould them into a unit. As said above though, we’ll definitely need to sort out the squad balance as soon as can.

I guarantee you that if we had a capable manager and assistant manager in charge we’d have somewhat of a cohesive unit. It’s no coincidence we’ve had Butler and Schofield in charge and we’ve only had 3 complete performances all season, one of which was against Farsley who look absolutely terrible and will go down come the end of the season.

The squad does need work but most of this is down to Butler and Schofield who are both simply awful.

Deerey not one of us know exactly who’s out there who will be more suitable to this club at this level, but I’m sure there’s many better than Butler. I think that’s fair to say.

I never said it would be easy to get somebody in, but with a gap between our next match this is our best chance.

Do you think that’s a fair assessment Deerey ?

Either way more fans will decide to stay away if this rubbish is carried on. Perfect time now to get rid as we have a good amount of time until the next match. Enough is enough now as it’s clear Butler is a lost cause.

Michelle stated Butler was offered and then accepted a verbal contract to become manager so for the first seven games wasn’t even on a written contract until Michelle offered him one.

What makes it all the more silly is if Michelle had just held off and kept with the verbal contract to see the downturn in form he would have been so easy and cheap to get rid of. Schofield is the questionable one because as said on here yesterday, the formation we’re playing now is the same one he used to field when he was manager.

All in all we it was a terrible decision signing Butler and letting him bring Schofield in, which now looking back was possibly the worst assistant we could have possibly have brought in.

This squad does need balancing out, but an experienced manager who knows the level and who’s had success before will know what he needs. Whoever comes in will have to try to offload the higher earners and recruit cheaper hungrier players to flesh the squad out.

I think they are out there, but just a case of identifying the right ones and getting them in.

A poster said yesterday that this system was apparently played by Schofield throughout his managerial career so it would appear Butler and Schofield are as bad as each other.

Keeping the current pairing and having a Director of Football with powers to overrule

Already proven Butler and Schofield are clueless. I’d rather have a new clued up manager at the helm rather than relying on a director of football being competent enough to reverse all of Butlers bad decisions.

In my opinion that would be even worse because if we end up with a clueless director of football, we really are in deep shite..even deeper than what we’re in now.

but if he wins the next 3 he could be December manager of the month !!

That ship has sailed I’m afraid. There has to be an experienced manager who knows this level inside who would want to come, surely ?

That Alfreton match was absolutely shocking. No pattern of play whatsoever and just hoofed the ball to Beck. That’s not on the players and is purely down to Butler who would rather sit most players behind the ball and hoof it to Beck to ensure we don’t concede.

I was struggling to remember a more poor match. That was beyond a joke. To say that was unacceptable is putting it mildly.

Whitehall as a no 10 and dropping Brogan. Butler’s head has completely gone.

Got to get rid now surely with the two week gap till our next match. We won’t ever get as a good of a time to get rid. It would give the new manage ample time to then assess the squad an realise what he needs. I doubt it would take longer than a few days when he realises the options he has out wide.

Humberside where waiting over an hour for him to come out for the post match interview. Was Michelle and co having a lengthy conversation with Butler maybe ?

Fingers crossed that was the case.

Butler’s approach is similar to Knill’s. Those two are both cut from the same defensive cloth.

If we get a new manager in who get’s rid of some of the top earners to draft in some hungry cheaper players, whilst making sure he get’s some wide players in Beck could play the Whitehall role if used correctly.

Harris from what I saw against Alfreton isn’t really a targetman, but seems to have a bit of pace and he’s fairly mobile so he and Beck could work. Carlton could also add something if he finds his feet “whenever that may be”.

Evans could be moved on for a cheaper option and Whitehall could be replaced with somebody just as effective for cheaper I’m sure. Denton will be on a fair wedge and he’s been substandard all season. There must be a comparable LB who would want less who will add more than him.

Is Clunan and Scales really that great ?

Whoever comes in will need to do some real wheeling and dealing.

That contract extension looks a bit ill timed now!

That wasn’t a contract extension he was offered, it was an actual written contract he was offered. Those first 7 games he was in charge before he signed his contract was via a verbal agreement.

Makes it all the more annoying because if Michelle had waited a little while longer he would have been so easy and cheap to get rid of.

All he keeps saying is either “we’re going to improve or we can and will improve”. Hearing that constantly now post match for the last 2 months. Butler hasn’t a clue and with what he’s going through with his Dad, he needs paying up and have the pressure taken off him because it’s clearly too much for him to handle. Clearly can’t handle it and lacks the know how.

That today was shameful. Don’t even get me started on that dreaded formation and where he was playing certain players. Butler clearly won’t/can’t learn and really needs sacking off now.

Even playing 4/4/2 Butler still played with no width and the full backs are that deep at times they were more like wide CB’S. I don’t get it. Everything we played seemed to go down the middle and all of it was being nullified . Butler just stood there and made no alteration, we kept trying something which clearly didn’t work.

How do you manage to field a 4/4/2 and play with no width, despite having 2 big lads up front, one being a 6ft 5 old fashioned targetman in Beck ?

I’m sure I only counted 3 or 4 balls in the box and even they were poor. I’m still of the opinion that we need a more capable manager who’s going to form us into some kind of cohesive unit.

Well that was a waste of petrol; not to mention five hours of my life!

Nice to see he stuck with the same formation, but style of play was absolutely terrible. We have the players, but not the manager to get it out of them.

Beck and Whitehall don’t work well together either. Full backs nowhere near attacking enough and play far too deep. They’re clearly being asked to play this safely as they hardly ventured over the half way line.

Against Darlo was a perfect example of going out there not to lose, rather than going out there to win. Scales came on and literally gave the ball away nearly every time he attempted a pass. I counted that he only found a team mate 3 or 4 times and even they were 2 yard passes.

    Terrible.

Butler said post match that he only went with 4 at the back because he thought it would work against Leamington. In response to being asked whether he would keep with this formation after gaining 3 points Butler replied ” I looked at their formation and thought this would work, it’s not me swallowing my pride. I was just doing my job ”

If he dare go back to 5 at the back on Tuesday night after seeing the difference against Leamington, he needs to pack his bags because he’ll clearly never learn.

I hope to god he stays with this from now on.

I’ve been saying for months Brogan should have been in CM. Brogan has that bit of quality, composure and has the physicality not to be bullied at this level.

Absolutely criminal he’s been used so sparingly.

Not that long ago we were discussing tactics employed in the League 1 playoff semi.

For ‘discussing tactics’ read ‘moaning about Alexander, Swann and contracts’

You mean the home game when Alexander fielded a negative team and when he decided with 25mins left “when the game was pretty much over” to find courage he went more attacking and we were clearly the best team on that pitch and ran them ragged.

Still say to this day if we would have gone more positive from the start we would have won that match. That was shameful.

There is only you out the whole fanbase who seems content with Butler’s formation. Everybody else must be wrong, Deerey.

Butler had the last say on all transfers so not all Turnbull’s fault. Recruitment still been crap though for some time now.

I think Michelle said AB HAS the final say, possibly implying that he didn’t whrn LT was here?

I thought she said that Butler HAD the final say. Either way the recruitment has been poor for some time.

Not really a surprise as the attendance would have been low. The turnout would not have covered the match day expenses and it also give the pitch a rest as it would have cut u in this weather.

Bit disappointing not being able to watch it in the flesh, but we have bigger problems to worry out e.g terrible league form and an inept manager who’s still at the club.

looks like we’ve got that young CB back on trial, Finn Abraham who came on for a few minutes towards the end. I thought he looked solid enough in pre season, I doubt he’d do much worse than Evans and Nicholson.
