November 19, 2024 at 10:37 pm #294321Not that long ago we were discussing tactics employed in the League 1 playoff semi.
November 20, 2024 at 4:14 pm #294340Those Carlotti kits were horrible, i wouldn’t buy one because they had a big sponsorship deal with Donny(Streetwise Sports)at the time.

For ‘discussing tactics’ read ‘moaning about Alexander, Swann and contracts’

You mean the home game when Alexander fielded a negative team and when he decided with 25mins left “when the game was pretty much over” to find courage he went more attacking and we were clearly the best team on that pitch and ran them ragged.
Still say to this day if we would have gone more positive from the start we would have won that match. That was shameful.

November 22, 2024 at 5:58 pm #294422Happened across a YouTube video showing all of our 94 goals from the 2016/17 season (3rd in League One).
Bloody marvellous! Top scorer Morris with 20, but during the season we had the likes of Paddy Madden, KvV, Tom Hopper and Ivan Toney to call on.
Dreamland!

Cue bouffant head’s best mate BPG.
November 22, 2024 at 7:29 pm #294430Way past his era TW. Alexander time.
Dreamland maybe NI but an effin expensive one that came back to bite us.
November 22, 2024 at 7:42 pm #294433TwoWrights,you are thinking of the Golden Era when we scored nearly 400 home league goals in ten seasons, when we were the envy of every other small league club in the country, had great F A Cup memories and thrilling football to boot. That was the era you were thinking about!

No I wasn’t thinking that, and Deerey I knew the timeline, I just knew what you’d be thinking. :-)

Still less than 2 goals per home game bill. No big deal really.
November 22, 2024 at 8:49 pm #294439Were you at Rochdale that day?!
November 22, 2024 at 9:52 pm #294440My memories of the Laws days were that there were some very good days and some bad days. We had promotions in 99 and 05, which he takes credit for, and the disasters of 99-00 and 03-04. Laws takes the blame for them too. I remember 03-04, when we had Barwick and Kilford in midfield, while Kell and Calvo-Garcia were on the bench and we nearly went down. Still, he got his act together for the next season with some pivotal signings that set us up for our recent halcyon days, with Musselwhite, Crosby, Baraclough and Keogh.
The less said about his last stint the better.
November 23, 2024 at 12:28 am #294441Possibly the best season ever!
What a squad… Grants goal at Wembley is my favourite ever!
I was at Wembley for both games and the win against Millwall was special.
Simply incredible!!
Let’s hope these days return

Readily admit I’m looking through rose tinted glasses, but even when we were crap that era of football still at least seemed entertaining.
I don’t know if it’s age that diminishes the enjoyment or that the football in general has moved in a different direction where possession/shape/stats are king.
Certainly can’t envisage we will see flair players like Hodges or mavericks such as Cleveland Taylor anytime soon.
November 23, 2024 at 9:23 am #294443There will always be those who give Laws credit for the jobs Wilcox and Adkins did
Laws’s biggest achievement was getting us promoted out of the 4th Division with no money for a change
Other times he’s had an open chequebookNovember 23, 2024 at 9:41 am #294444My memories of the Laws days were that there were some very good days and some bad days. I think that was true for most football clubs. Managers today do emphasise possession to nullify the other team, but it reduces chances on goal.
As for envy of the small clubs in the late 90s/early 00s. I would say that would be Crewe.
