I’m just spitballing ideas as to the reasoning behind why the club might have offered him an extension over reactionary outrage. I wouldn’t have done it, but I think there is more of a reason, even if misplaced, as to why.
6 weeks is too soon for an extension, but it is seemingly fine for some to write off completely (or even before 1 game for others).
I think Butler is fully aware that his job could be at risk if he doesn’t gain promotion. However, if he does turn things round and his contract isn’t being extended, it could be a source for worry down the line which may affect him. I don’t think this is that hard to work out.
Close has no fixed time range, and is subjective. I have suspicions that the club were right and we’re probably just waiting to formally announce them anyway.
A couple of weeks ago we were close to appointing a new CEO, what happened there.
Two weeks isn’t that long in the grand scheme of things.
Or it could be a means of placing trust in their manager and ensuring job security, so Butler’s thoughts aren’t distracted by his own future. Dean was let go after an extension, so this extension doesn’t mean we can’t get rid of Butler if he fails.

You missed JD ?
I don’t think Spalding played yesterday. They did lose in midweek though.
October 26, 2024 at 7:45 pm in reply to: Yet another…’what have you been listening today?’ Thread #292335We were nine points clear. Threw two points away by being needlessly negative v Oxford, another two last week at Chester by not attacking once. Two away v Chorley from a late goal when winning to draw. Three v Scarborough who were very poor.
We are too negative by playing 5 across the back, which leaves us short I’m midfield or upfront.
Quite frankly this division is very poor and if we played to win each week we probably would.
Come on Andy play positive not negative when setting up the team.
I agree that caution and inviting pressure cost us v Oxford City and were too negative against Chester, but today was surely about lapses in concentration, given that they scored all their goals from defensive errors shortly after kick offs.

Yes, and those who turned against Dean after a few games were daft. As are people speaking about Butler now. I am not saying people weren’t rash with Dean at all, so I am not sure what the point of that trawl through past comments is really. However, by May this year Dean had enough time to be properly assessed, but anyone saying Butler has after 12 league games when we’re top of the league is being silly.
I looked and said that it looked like Dean was out of his depth, but hopefully he learns in March 2023. I have criticised Butler recently, and it’s not fair criticism that bothers me, so I don’t know what you’re trying to prove. There was once difference in March 2023 though in that we were not top of the league then and had a raft of new signings, so negativity is going to be more common (you’d think).
They are 11th in their division though, 11 points off the top and not in great form.
Dean’s remit was to get promotion and he didn’t, so he failed. Butler’s goal is to gain promotion and if he doesn’t he will have failed. If he fails there will have to be a reevaluation, where there may be a consideration that he could learn and improve next year or he goes.
We are currently 12 games in, so there isn’t a comparison between fans turning on Butler now and those saying Dean should go at the end of the season in May. I don’t think it’s ‘beyond the pale’ to say that the task last year was promotion and Dean failed to achieve that.
Anyone thinking managers will play experimental tactics in the 2nd tier of non-league is living with their heads in the clouds. You’re not likely to get the next Ralf Rangnick, Johann Cruyff or Pep Guardiola at this level. The football will be based on tried and trusted tactics that suit the abilities of the players at this level.
Jimmy Dean was hardly revolutionary with his tactics and most of that was found wanting in the end, with a much higher budget and bigger squad and losing out in the end. Butler has made some frustrating errors and he might fail, but this overly dramatic rage from some quarters is pathetic. Yes, we can be critical of some recent poor perfomances, and the league position should not have hidden that. However, to then make such snide insults at Butler and for a “Butler out” thread to be created is just kneejerk, unrealistic and irrational. The club are not going to bin Butler off because of a bad run of form when we’re top; there will have to be questions asked when the season ends, depending on where we finish. Some have bemoaned (rightfully, I think) the sack-happy nature of the Swann years, and it must be said that there were many calling for the sack of those Swann did dispose of at the time. We have been through a lot since, but there are some who are still seemingly turning on coaches far too quickly. Butler might not improve, but it’s pointless turning against him when it has been a few months and we are top of the league. To emphasise, I am not saying that to distract from deserved criticism of performances, but to point out that turning against Butler now is an extreme response.
Dean had 18 months and failed his remit. We should give Butler at least until May before reevaluation, unless there’s a catastrophic drop down the table. Thankfully, I think the kneejerk reactions have been constrained to a few, but there are some like the tweeter in question where it does apply.

The Fish certainly looked a lot more composed and aided play more than Whitehall today.
Poor first half, but that second half was a lot better and the best we have played for a while. Having Beestin in midfield worked and it was good to see Denton and Barrows come forward. That’s what I expect from now on, even if Rushall were awful.
And it turned out we were right to be worried and Saint Dave was a very naughty boy, not the promised saviour.
I have reasons to be sceptical of his thoughts, and not saying anything negatively about Mr Stamp here, but from other things I have heard.
I would take TSG’s owner’s comments with a pinch of salt.
Guiseley win 1-0 at Kiddy. Kiddy fans are not happy and are calling for tango man’s head on twitter.
I would place money on the former.
When that Flo penalty was missed there was a momentary silence from myself and the crowd there, as it took me (and probably everyone) else by surprise and we needed time to process. I remember the second leg finishing 0-0, but with both teams having chances to win. The final eclipsed it though.
Bit further back is this:
Unfortunately, I couldn’t find anything from the 4-1 home leg.

I wonder if it was him who took the decision.
After a performance like that at Guiseley there will be complaints. Though, the heat of the moment has blown over, it’s best not to get carried away and get sucked into pessimism.

The idiots on social media will have their voice heard the loudest because that’s what encourages engagement. I saw plenty of posts calling for Artell’s head after 3 game, likewise Chester fans calling for their managers head before he turned it around.
This is fair. We’re not an anomaly. Calling for the heads of managers more rapidly seems to be more common in the kneejerk online age. A Liverpool fan I know was calling for Slot out after the Forest loss.
I think criticism and anger at your idols for wrecking the club is a bit different to a more sustainable club with a manager who is not currently getting the perceived best out the squad.

He never was interested in being a hardworking MP to work for the good of the community. It was always about his ego and self-interest.
I doubt the fanbase is divided to breaking point, but some have to argue such for their own stirring.
According to Michelle 10% of the inherited debt still remains. Presumably all this cash that you think we have is heading that way as a priority. Not an unreasonable scenario is it?
Indeed. Debt racked up and not dealt with by the past two idiots, who thought they could distract with bluster.

The crowds will drop if results and performances continue to stutter. However, I don’t think I can take criticisms of the board seriously from an avowed Hilton stalwart* who was fine with much worse. The current board may make errors with regards to managerial appointments, but there is no real risk of them gambling on the club’s future with reckless spending or crookedness like the past 2 clowns.
*By which I don’t mean those who were pro-Hilton before he left and have now apologised.

The top of the league thing made sense when it was one below par performance. I don’t think it can be used now after repeated errors that should have been nipped in the bud a few weeks ago.

Didn’t bother today, it’s becoming obvious this season will end the same as last season with a few less goals conceded. We desperately need a goalscorer that’s interested.
Aye. Another poof game from Whitehall. Missed what looked like an easy chance and spent most of the game on the floor, and always seems to not anticipate much.
That should be poor!
