    Correct, Matt.
Just so long as all the outstanding promises are kept – we’ll be fine!

What or who would we be protesting against?

    Hmm.
On track for what my ‘boardroom expert’ was predicting – or is Swanny going to depart: unloved, unappreciated and maligned by all those ingrates who call themselves Iron fans?

Hill stated many weeks ago that his focus is the rebuild for next season.
I fully applaud this logical thinking.
Results, at the moment, are of zero consequence. If we lose every game by six – it just doesn’t matter. Let him experiment with what he’s got – especially where the youngsters are concerned.
I refuse to criticise until I see that this incredibly capable manager is unable to make this rebuild work. (Even then … can we pretend that restraints from on high have not stymied him?)
I really detest folks getting on the back of people doing their best in impossible circumstances.

Like so many sports, football is about movement and making space.
The better the team, the easier it is for young players to integrate.

We, however, are asking too much of so many younger players. The pressure gets to them and mistakes inevitably occur.
Some of the crowd then go all mardy and unreasonably get on their backs – confidence ebbs away. Vicious circles and all that.

How many times in recent seasons have we played a side fielding as many youngsters and inexperienced players as we are currently doing? – I do not know the answer but would wager a hefty sum that there would be fingers spare on a single hand.

The only upside to all of this is that in, hopefully a majority of cases, these horrific last two seasons will have left a a hefty handful of young uns battle-hardened.

I go out of my way to support youngsters. Over many seasons – the only young player I had no time for was Hakeeb – and that for not regularly using his abundant talents to best effect.

The less work to do a GK has – the fewer goals will be conceded over a season.
Without even a trace of exaggeration, Rory must have had three times the work to do of any typical mid-table GK.

Well IA, I texted someone familiar with boardrooms and similar regarding what had happened and his unprompted response was, “He’ll be part of any consortium, then.”
I interrogated him further last night and he listed a number of interpretations of the actions but said that was the most likely.

I listened to some complex logic which did make sense – but ultimately, it can only be supposition, of course.

My personal view was that Simon had seen that it was all such a dog’s breakfast that a man, known for his effectiveness in high powered roles, had simply escaped from what he may have considered to be a Putinesque situation.

Even so, interestingly, the pair of outlined pieces of creative imagination are not mutually exclusive.

I certainly predict that the chairman and his clan will be trying very hard to rid themselves of this turbulent football club and its grossly unappreciative fans.

    Bobby Barnes Forward
    Julian Broddle (ENG) Defender
    Mike Brolly Winger
    Steve Cammack (ENG) Forward
    Willie Ferry Forward
    Tommy Graham Midfielder
    John Green Central defender
    Paul Gregory Goalkeeper
    John Hawley (ENG) Forward
    Dave Hill (IRL) Defender
    Keith Houchen (ENG) Forward
    Les Hunter Central defender
    Paul Johnson Goalkeeper
    Mike Lester Midfielder
    Steve Lister (ENG) Defender/Midfielder
    Paul Longden (ENG) Defender/Left back
    Mike Matthews Midfielder
    Neil Matthews (ENG) Forward
    Richard Money (ENG) Defender/Centre back
    Neil Pointon (ENG) Defender/Left back
    Billy Russell (SCO) Defender/Right back
    Mark Smith Left Winger
    Andy Stevenson Defender
    Sean Stobart Forward
    David Travis Midfielder
    Ian Webster Central defender
    Alan Whitehead

How many of these from 1985/6 would have pushed their way into the current squad, I wonder? – Some were long in the tooth but – all the same …
Paul Gregory was a decent enough GK but far too short in stature. Rory far superior.

We have some pretty decent youngsters whom we’ll surely keep for next season alongside some more experienced players who are contracted.
The problem here is that anything up to half the new August squad will have either forgotten how to win – or have never learned in the first place!
This is extremely serious even in a squad which may (or may not) bring in some half decent players.
This can surely act as a mega drag-down factor.

    Even Delaney was poor today.
Does Taft bring out the worst in his fellow CBs?

Yet again – the defence was unable to cope without Grant in front of them.
Feeney is an old warhorse – but is not a CM. How often has he played CM?

The trouble is that some people make no allowances for bad situations.
Let me put it another way.
Let us imagine that you have a team which has four or five players each with a heavy plaster cast on an arm.
Now when that team loses – do we blame the manager? – If so – then why?

On a similar line, Nuttall had minimal support again today. Some neat touches first half and worked hard but took stick from supporters.
Every single time we have a lonely young striker leading the line – we pillory him. We have fans undermining confidence. Do we never learn?

    I couldn’t disagree more, BS!
Fence painting brings: pride, self-satisfaction and a sense of accomplishment. It brightens up your environment and makes you feel good inside.

Whereas, watching the Iron offers none of those things.

As long as there’s plenty contributing – say a mere 10% of the fan base at a tenner a head- that should raise at least £90 quid.
Okay – just a bottle, then.

Oh, sorry. I misunderstood the number.
For one moment there, I really thought everyone was getting together and chipping in for a birthday present for me during the close season.

I now realise that I was probably wrong but – if you were to be stuck for ideas – a case of 30 year old Irish Single Malts will do me nicely.

    Odd game.
First thing and the most important thing – as a team, they were two divisions better than we were.

For the first time in a while the central defence was abject.

Why so awful in defence? – Surely, the absence of Grant was like being smitten with a two by four about the head.

So many good bits amongst the horrific bits.

Disagreed with Hinds about ‘lack of effort’. A number of players performed well. The others were just not good enough.

Bang goes my theory that Taft is better not being alongside Manny.

I thought the boot slipped or skidded across the top of the ball. It wasn’t what I would see as an over-the-ball challenge, as such.
    Yellow was sufficient.

In the NL we have a bevy of up and coming youngsters (provided we can hold onto them) AND a good handful will have picked up experience in a very tough environment this season.
GK has come of age – if we can keep him.
Delaney is our best CB but I can’t see him staying.
Onariase as a backup I can accept.
Do we want the new improved Millen – or do injuries scare us off?
It was the CM which largely did for us yesterday.
So many other random comments I could have made but we need a SPINE and players with PACE!
A few players with a touch of class would be rather pleasing.
Retaining and recruiting is not going to be a nice job. Stopping the slide is essential. Offer me mid-table next season and I’ll snatch your hands off now.
    Consolidation has to be achieved.
