wasnt sure where to bung this ..here will do
Ironarmy Gareths latest offering ..some info on all the NLN teams and grounds re traveling away.
It won’t be one season away.
So your telling me theres chance, im reading ya !! ….. as Loyd said
Just had a click on the fishy Scunny thread and at the mo its all gone a a tad wonky with our black n White brothers warbling on how superior they are to us, i would like to take this opportunity to state the bleedin obvious that at the current time Scunny n the Cods are indeed 2 leagues apart ..BUT IN REALITY when the first ball is kicked in anger next month we should not forget potentially we are just the course of ONE full season away from being together again…so surely all this talk about them momentarily being superior needs putting into prospective.
So in the words of the late great Vera Lyn who herself was a staunch Iron fan so my old man said lets keep smiling through and we will meet again some Scunny day .. and it could quite possibly be just one season away!!!!
Ironfromafar, I can not really give an opinion on your chances of promotion as I have absolutely no knowledge of the NLN. I just thought I’d try and save you some money!
Your comment about lack of signings puzzles me. We had a very short close season last year due to the play offs and missed out on most of our targets. However this season like yourselves we have got most of our signings done before training starts and even paid fees for several of them. I can’t remember the last time this happened instead of last minute signings that no one else wants.
We’ve kept the nucleus of the squad that finished 11th and reached the quarter finals of the FA cup together and released the fringe players. We’ve signed Rekeil Pyke (Shrewsbury), Donovan Wilson (Sutton) , Abo Eisa (needs no introduction) on frees and Harvey Rodgers (Accrington) , Danny Rose (Stevenage) ,Toby Mularkey (Rochdale) and Charles Vernam (Lincoln) for undisclosed fees with the promise of more to come.
Our club is now very well run . With the windfall from the fa cup run we have money to spend for the first time in 20 years, although this certainly won’t be spent frivolously by the new owners.
Most of us cod’s are the most optimistic we’ve been since Fenty took over. We’re certainly looking up not down.
Although it may pain you, a better bet would be an outside chance for a top 7 finish for us.
Your signings have impressed me so far , but I’d be more than a little concerned where dodgy Dave is getting the money from if I was you. Seems a little Swann like throwing money you don’t have at promotion or bust.
Good luck for the new season a club like yours doesn’t deserve what’s happened to it.
UTM , UTIThanks for the concise reply CC, i take on board your comments.
i hold no real hatred for the Cods and admit to reading the fishy which for the most part re Scunny has seen hundreds of fair n balanced comments many of which i agree with (obviously mixed in with a few funny piss taking ones) im still of the opinion my wager is worth a punt IF the combined double odds are ok ..so yes im predicting a tough season for youz lot leading us to once again have that local derby many love so much.
Nobody cares, captain cod. You know your club better than we do so don’t take any of it to heart. Apart from that I think he was winding you up anyway.
We have our own club to worry about.
Why would any of us give a toss what your upcoming chances are for next season ?
No wind up WGs (would i do that to our much loved friends from down the road),my friendly fifty quid flutter is a real prediction.
At least it has revived and rekindled some football chatter to Bru instead of all the he said she said snide nasty conjecture filled comments all to common in recent weeks.
apologies i meant assist in finding the odds not paying the 50 quid
I fancy a flutter .. 50 quid double , not easy to get it on from here ,can anyone assist n if the odds are decent will get it on via a VPN or my daughter.
Scunny promoted back to NL
Codheads relegated to NL (as yet light on signings and i reckon they will struggle this coming season)Thanks in advance
looking like maybe no new additions this week as previously 3 were mooted . Wilson n Butterfield staying may have changed this plan.
Still very happy with how the squad is shaping up regardless if anymore new faces arrive or not.
going by the SUFC fb page pics looks like at least 4 of the newbies were at training today.
Don’t think the new lads contracts start until 1st July. Will they be there this week?
Yeah valid point but it seemed such was their excitement when signing i thought maybe they would be chomping at the bit to get started .. maybe some of the newbies are still on their hols laid on a beach.
My Oldham buddy still saying they are gonna land Ogle ??
with all the new signings it looks like we are pretty much ok in all positions except with the forwards/strikers so another coming in would not go amiss to cover injuries and tactical rotation.
Apparently 3 more signings mooted for this week so …watch this space.
I hope there will be some updates re the squad reporting back for training today .. all present and correct sir ??
dunno if ive missed it and apologies if already been posted but where has he gone and how much was the fee ??
I’m walking into an ear bashing or keyboard equivalent here but maybe just maybe JD smashes it in this league? The owner wanted him due to his lower leagues winning mentality, some of the players we have are amazing on their day…. If he can get them to gel and remove the negativity of the last few years around the whole club then everything could really kick on.
I am not negative re JD and truly hope he smashes it … i am however just slightly concerned about some traits he showed in the end of last season firstly odd selections and secondly tactics (yes he was working with a nail in his boot and with poor players with very bad attitudes) so can he motivate this new group, lets hope so..
I agree with a previous post , a mix of really talented players possibly with big egos to manage wont be easy maybe why Andy Butler came in after Nelson left he will play a big part IMO.
No hiding place now i wish JD all the best… anything other than top few places after first dozen games or he could/should be toast .. hopefully not and he turns out to be the Lurpak butter (MY FAV) on that toast and a hero.
Reading fans SM there seems to be a real buzz and with a good start im sure attendances will be good and improve if the football on offer is entertaining.
New owner and managers first full season, all new team, new kit in a new league suppose you could say new fresh buzz and real optimism within the fan base …. putting the off field stuff aside this is Scunny being reborn.
uti
I predict that before Christmas we will be calling for Dean to go
Not too.optimistic re jD then prem.iron .. must admit im a tad concerned how he will manage what is looking like a very good squad.
Nelson welcome back n Andy Butler waiting in the eings if it does go tits up for Jimmy
Oldham mate who is usually not far off the mark reckons they are gonna table an increased offer for Ogle..
Re Butterfield.. pleased he looks to be staying , as for Wilson na .. IMO his attitude end of last season was crap and should be let go as should Rance.

From club website
Pretty much whats been said makes decent reading except im concerned Ogle will go to Oldham i really hope he stays.
https://www.scunthorpe-united.co.uk/news/2023/june/players-update/
Anyone else thinking this is quite a hectic pre season schedule .. lots of fixtures close together , hoping there arent any injuries that keeps players out for the start of the season .. re the likes of Cal Roberts who is reported to be brilliant but made of glass…
oh not forgetting Rance im predicting he will be a regular in the physio room.

Thanks for that 64 ..i am a tad anti SM (fb twitter etc) but some interesting reading and a few warbles made me chuckle, not seeing anything too controversial from DH DW.
WGs i really hope Jimmy comes good but as Awaywego suggests now Butler is in the wings if JD does fook up ..
Can see maybe one or two more signings but to this point no one can complain about the intent shown by DH and well done to wh ever sourced and git the newbies to cone to Scunny.
From being down n depressed from.last seasons debacle seems there is hope and optimism
Also mentioned if the side is performing well and winning decent crowds should be the norm as any fan craves good entertaining football plenty of goals n winnersUTI
yes i was thinking the same .. at 39 he could still play if necessary.. did so last season at Farsley

In non-league I suspect budgets are dictated by attendances, and looking at the average attendances in NLN for the 22/23 seasion (link below) I would suggest that we will have the largest average attendance for the coming season (especially if we are doing well).
I concur. Let’s face it, we’re the Real Madrid of NLN and require the players to prove it.
All we need now is somebody to drug Lavery, stick a sack over his head and bring him here for us to sign him from Donny.
That would be mission accomplished.
Real Madrid … thanks for that WGs made me chortle and mi dentures dropped out… you been on the turps again ??
A certain Andy Butler has jumped on for the NLN ride to piss the league (according to WGs)
Even though not residing in the UK im getting quite exited and more so unusually optimistic for the up n coming NLN season… hopefully find time for a trip back during the season and take in as many games as possible.
So getting back to football talk and despite all the off the field issues putting them aside and assuming all the squad newbies and retained are all fit n ready how to fans/ IB members see the team lining up ..theres been so many new signings not easy for my old memory to remember all their positions.
I think most fans would agree the signings have all been excellent and the squad at last has some depth n quality with players that actually want to be at the club, with the likes of Ogle Elliot Chappo plus the youngsters creating real competition for places any thoughts on JDs regular starting 11 subs n captains arm band ???
WOW waking up to this news ..very surprising. After reading all the comments seems hes a cracker of a player but very injury prone, money paid and a 2 year deal DH showing real intent.
Please dont tag me as a Liverpool fan … in fact i can categorically state my only club is SCUNTHORPE UNITED .. i do not give a rats arse about any other and only quickly skim over the scores after the checking Iron have got on.
Personally i just dislike Everton more than most other clubs (except Grimesby)
I do not even watch any local / Asean football fixtures live or on the telly.. its a joke , match fixing , Refs paid off outrageous decisions and games played on sub standard surfaces, open ended grounds and water logged pitches in monsoon season makes it like a summer away day at Blunderdel Park …. a carry on comedy flik.

For anyone who hasnt seen the Nelson vid
Just watched the Nelson leaving vid on YT and must say he spoke very well honest respectful and dignified.
within his comments there seemed no hint of underlying off field problems that some are predicting expecting or just guessimating , gave the impression all is ok, DH has a plan to take the club forward with JD n CP at the helm and all in all very optimistic for the future.Wishing Mr Nelson all the best for the future ..
Don’t think they will be playing any friendlies at glanford park.
More info please .. why do you say this ?
Oldham 11/1 worth a punt.
Chesterfield will be up there for sure … also fancy Hartlepool and Barnet.
busy last coupla days n logged in to read this news … real shame i liked Nelson and im of the opinion he should have been given a crack at the top job when DH arrived on the scene…alas thats history and good luck to him for the future where ever he ends up .. reading his statement not sure in what capacity his new role is but i predict he will resurface as a manager in the not to distant future…
Anyways its down to JD n CP now no hiding place .. hoping they can get the all new Iron buzzing from the first whistle and see where we are after 10 NLN fixtures, after all the door is always open for the Admiral to return as confirmed by DH. -
