i read online only 80 tickets of the initial 750 remain … it was yesterday on the Scunthorpe fans group page which for some reason allowed me in to read .. alas today just tried and im blocked now.

IMO quite a difficult first fixture for the Iron and should offer a reasonable idea on the season to come.

    Portacabin changing rooms:

“Changing rooms and offices are situated adjacent to the clubhouse, behind the Shed. The changing rooms are portable and were obtained from Salisbury City when work on their Raymond McEnhill Stadium was completed.”

“ If fans are segregated, then away supporters are mostly housed in the Meadow End where around 850 supporters can be accommodated. This small terrace is partly covered and also comprises some flat standing areas. The good thing is that the fans are situated close to the playing action. The facilities are okay and refreshments are provided by the obligatory burger van. In addition to the terrace around 90 seats are made available to away supporters in the Main Stand. For teams with a larger following then in addition half the ‘Shed’ terrace can also be allocated.

If segregation is in force then catering is provided by a Burger Van, which is situated inside by the turnstiles. It offers amongst other things; 1/2 Pound Cheeseburger (£5), 1/4 Pounder Beefburger (£3.50), Hot Dogs (£3.50), Bacon Baps (£3.50) and Chips (£2). If there is no segregation then you can access the Club Catering which is located next to the Clubhouse. This has a similar offering plus a range of Pies (£2.50), plus Pie, Chips and Gravy (£4).

Over the years I have attended a number of games at the Lamb, as Tamworth is fairly local to where I live. I have always been impressed with the good atmosphere at the games that I have been to. The small covered stands allow a lot of noise to be generated and this is taken advantage of by the supporters of both sides.” – Football Ground Guide.

    Pubs:
“ Inside the Lamb Ground there is a fair sized club house, which serves real ale. This is open to all fans, unless segregation is in force, when then it is only available to home supporters. The Club’s main catering outlet is conveniently situated near its entrance and always seems to do a brisk trade throughout the game.

There are no pubs nearby, so it is a case of getting there early and taking the 10-15 minute walk into town, where there are plenty of pubs to be found. There is a Wetherspoons pub called the Bole Bridge, however on match days the pub operates a no football colours/shirts policy and is for home fans only. A better bet would be either the Market Vaults on Market Street, the Sir Robert Peel pub on Lower Gungate or further up the same road on the same side as the Sir Robert Peel, is a small micropub called the King’s Ditch. All these three pubs are included in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide, with both the King’s Ditch and Market Vaults stocking an impressive number of real ciders and perries.

To walk in the direction of the town centre, simply come out of The Lamb car park entrance at the ground and turn left. Before you get to the main road turn left along a path way and down to an underpass. Go through the underpass and out the other side a through another underpass. Then bear right and then up the pathway alongside the main road. Go straight on along this road passing a garage on your right and an Odeon Cinema on your left and you will reach the town centre in front of you.” – Football Ground Guide.

If we get bogged down at this level for a number of years then maybe something similar could happen to us?

Fisticuffs – it all kicked off back in February when local rivals Nuneaton were at The Lamb:

Tamworth v Nuneaton to be replayed behind closed doors after violence, racism and homophobia

Article in this weeks The Non League Paper about this seasons Tamworth game.
    Their manager Andy Peaks says

“To get Scunthorpe, a fancied team who have just come down and with the history they’ve got, is a great game for the fans and the club to embrace,” said Peaks. “I’m sure we’ll get a really big crowd.

“They are fancied to go really well and their remit will be to go straight back up so as a game it’s a difficult one, but I can’t see any easy games in this league. There are a lot of good clubs.”

There’s also another article in it about the DH and Swann dispute.

After all the pre season fixtures are done n dusted and we get to the meaningful footy for points n jobs then IMO Tamworth away is a very difficult first fixture that i shall now very prematurely predict to end in a draw .. a score draw to be more accurate… 2-2

Followed by the Petboro home fixture which is a real six pointer and the first MUST WIN game of the season (joke) seriously we really have to win that one surely !!..

I must admit to being a tad envious Skelly has got the mad van back in action and i cannot go

Not seen Skelly for a year or so.
Those were the days, picking the van up 1st thing Saturday morning from Ready rent a van and off to wherever the Iron were playing.
The likes of Jingles and his brother Steve, ship and his brother young ship, big Aidy who famously fell asleep in the snow and ice on the open terrace at Belle Vue cos he’d had a few.
We called ourselves TVI, it stood for Transit Van Iron but some wag came up with Trent Valley Infantry for some non existent hooligan element, we found it amusing.
Home matches we all used to drink in the poacher and order a fleet of taxis for 2:30.
I remember playing Darlington at home and a load of there supporters rocked up at the poacher, one group lost the deposit for the van as Jingles put an empty beer keg through the windscreen.
Turning up at the Earl of Crewe for an early session at the play off game that Steve had organised with the landlord because we’d behaved in there a couple of weeks before, only for the word to get out that he was going to open up early for us, when we got there, there was dozens of Scunny supporters had beat us there.
Many more memories, always a competition on away games at motorway services on who could come out with the most stock but pay the least amount of money.

    Jingles …. that name rings a bell…

i recall TJS just odd Scotter bottom was one rental place and i drew the short straw to drive a shitty old white Leyland van away to either Darlo or Hartlepool.

Didnt one of the Scunny fans at that time win the lottery ?? Simmo a bin man if i recall correct.

Great effort by Iron fans to take those numbers fair play .

I imagine you will outnumber a fair few home clubs this season . I might try and go to Boston V Scunthorpe as I still want to go to their ground , hopefully it’s possible to get a ticket somewhere for that one.

I forgot about Simmo, yes he did, had a fairly substantial win.
Seem to remember he was in court for the the war against the cod’s in town.
Nearly certain he didn’t go down for it like some of the others did.
I also remember a match, close to Christmas that got called off about 2:45 because of torrential rain.
We were all on the way to the ground in taxis from the Poacher when it was announced so turned the taxis round and went back to the pub.

SNOT, jingles doesn’t go anymore the ban at Rochdale was the end for him, his brother Steve still goes as does mad Mick, Steve Pearson and fozzy, never went myself with them but my son and his mates did and they all turned into model citizens of today, it was the tranny van iron at the time and an holigan element was associated with it not necessarily their van there were a few Toppo’s for one, it was the telegraph and Humberside finest who come up with Trent valley infantry after Halifax away when someone with a gem marker daubed TVI everywhere in the pub they never did get anybody for all their efforts who useless were they? but the lads did tone it down after that, great lads and landlords of the country loved them always outside the pubs before they opened up banging on the door even as further afeild as Torquay and Plymouth.

Paul lives in Burton upon stather last I heard.
Long trips we used to pick up the van Friday and away early for a Saturday match.
We never missed opening time at any town we were playing in.
As for Halifax, that was some day, if memory serves me right, we kicked the big double gates in and all went in without paying.
As for model citizens, we all were and still are.

just a thought and i dont know if this still happens in UK but … Scunny fans in away end , Scunny score im sure Tamworth have a few fans who may voice their displeasure resulting in a possible altercation ,, Scunny getting fined or fans banned from away games would not be good.

Young n daft i once did the away end gig at Port Vale didnt end well…older n wiser now im hoping Iron fans dont end up where they should not be.
