There’s good money to be earnt in an FA Cup run. With our hectic backstory maybe something the BBC may pick up on and televise us – all dependent on the draw. Although ticket money distributed differently the attendance would all be new revenue non season ticket holder – a good cup run could allow 3/4 decent loans to really strengthen the squad in the winter months.

Thing is we’ll need squad players like Shrimpton in the winter months when injuries kick in (assuming no loans). Roberts Beestin Law all injury prone. Do we send him out on loan to get game time if not injured

Butler is young enough to make mistakes and to act upon them. I am concerned about 3-5-2 with the two full backs in the ‘5’. This hasn’t worked at GP and at times the team look like they’re running around trying to work out the formation, and then can quickly sit back to a 5-3-2. Not only that it isn’t a great watch, never has been. Results wise 10 out of 12 is great, two more wins and we’re flying but 3-5-2 hasn’t worked at GP since they started experimenting, Roberts is wasted down the middle, Brogan/Beestinlooks a better option there with Roberts wide in one of the ‘5’ (going on the fact he’ll stick with the formation). Is Shrimtpon injured?

I would say that although I thought we lacked quality in most areas credit to Butler who made the right changes – very attack minded. I know Dean would not have made those changes at 0-0 in fact would’ve gone the other way (defensive). So it is a good sign that, away from home, Butler recognised the need to push on and get 3 scrappy points. Need to improve the passing and accuracy.

Watching on the stream, zero quality on show, have to keep reminding myself it’s NLN.

With a small squad at our disposal are we looking at the loan market? (Assume it would be post August when we could potentially get a League 1/2 reserve)

Like the home and away can’t say I’m a big fan of the third kit. Sentiment great, idea great it just looks a bit garish to me. I hope they sell hundreds but the first team have no cause to use it.

Can see a 2,3 nil reverse on Saturday. I’m not confident about 3-5-2, I know it’s one of the harder formations for players to adapt to and it doesn’t take much for opposition to turn the 3 into a 5. Heart says 2-1 Scunny though

    2, 3 nil reverse…..

    Cracking prediction.

Happy to be proven wrong. You missed the ‘heart says’ prediction which I should’ve gone with (at least in results), also further reinforced my position on never gambling. Let’s celebrate the victory rather than schadenfraude

I watched on stream yesterday, did anybody else see the cricket in the background? They took a wicket at exactly the same time we scored our second or third goal.

Glad to be incorrect in my prediction, was a much easier start than I envisaged. Great start.

Not being negative just what I think the score will be, always tough at season start Newcastle 5 Villa 1
Springs to mind! I want them to win I just don’t think they will (a bit like England in the Euro final)

Heart says 2-1 Scunny, but something tells me it’ll be 2-0 Brackley, they get an early goal and then finish us off on the break whilst we search for an equaliser,
Having ditched 5-3-2 in second half.

Could also be that Brackley have a crap season, like Kings Lynn, could be one of the poorer teams,
It’s so early in the season we should be going out to win these matches.

My biggest fear is this division becomes normalised for Scunny, Brackley away wasn’t a tough fixture for 95% of my supporting life. We can pull out the ‘lucky to have a club card’ we’ve (probably) all done our bit to save it as much as we can but long term scrapping for cash and playing these kind of teams is a painful watch

Pre season is what it is, neither upbeat or downbeat just fitness sharpness formations etc, rather lose all and win v Brackley, but my mind goes back to 3-5-2 days and it never seemed to work, and was quite disappointing to watch. I like two up top but I also like a plan B which Dean never had.

3-5-2 has struggled to work at GP for years (well forever) it’s 5-3-2 and turgid football. Will it work at pub level? Maybe, hopefully, doubtfully. Let’s see how it pans out in competitive football but how many times have we seen 5 deep sitting defenders in this formation?

One thing I know is it will be as annoying as hell when we play for a draw with 5 at the back – at the away games despite the
‘Giving the best chance of maximising points’

Probably raised eyebrows because of the uniqueness of it – I cannot remember shifting a game to a workday afternoon before. If it is purely financial then that’s the pond we’re swimming in I guess. I do agree about the ‘it gives other people a chance to go’ a bit insulting because it was just added to give themselves some gratification/justification for a strange decision. They should’ve done 12pm kick off and offer a lunchtime ticket for those who can pop out for lunch and catch a half of football.

Our tactics would eventually catch up with us. You can see that when we have to score and go on the attack it’s exciting exhilarating stuff – stuff those players are used to. We can beat any team in the world when on the front foot but that wasn’t how he wanted us set up. The way we played after our goal was shocking, we went ultra defensive whilst leaving huge gaps down the wing. Kane could barely jump or move. Disappointing, but a bright future ahead with the right manager

Did Butler get his transfer targets? Are these the guys that have already signed or are they yet to arrive?

3-5-2 is good when you have forward thinking fullbacks, it can quite quickly become 5-3-2 when we sit deep. Historically it hasn’t been the best approach at a narrow GP, hopefully might surprise a few though.

I would think Butler would only take (as new entrants) those who a physically fit specimens – going with somebody who has been out a year might struggle to fit into that bracket, however he may just want to regain his fitness and knows Butler will push him hard to do so. Spennymoor reject isn’t sounding great but some have to fall to rise again.
