I’ve been going to watch local clubs in recent weeks – Bottesford Town is a friendly place to go although they also got beaten 6-1 in Yorkshire yesterday, sadly.
Winterton Rangers is a good afternoon out too. Not got to Brigg yet this season but been several times in the past.
I thought Robbins was a poor manager for us, he started well but the decline was long and gradual. He seemed to always resort to new signings to resolve problems, rather than improving existing players. It’s incredible to see how high he’s taken Coventry but I doubt he would have ever got close to that with us.
Alexander and Hurst have hardly covered themselves in glory since they left us.
They seem to be doing ok to me!
SanFran – can you nominate a proxy to attend an ask questions on your behalf?
October 8, 2021 at 9:11 am in reply to: Harrogate away, time to show our fury as supporters? #215032It’s the same with all club’s BR, it’s not just a Scunthorpe problem, just take Beckford for instance Leeds didn’t know what they had got when they were prepared to sell him to us.
Loan*
That’s why we couldn’t have him for our first season in the Championship.
October 8, 2021 at 9:10 am in reply to: Harrogate away, time to show our fury as supporters? #215031OK give me ONE answer as to how it will help the players on the pitch?
A change in ownership could see an improvement in attendances, a growth in income and a better future for the club. I’d say that probably is in the interests of the players too, no?

Swann needs to pay Turan off. I can’t see him being on much and his contract will be running out end of the season, he needs binning ASAP.
He’s out on loan isn’t he? Presumably with some or all of his wages being covered.
Depends how you slice it I guess, you could say 5 wins in the second half of the season.

Okay not sacked as we don’t know the exact details. Lol, forget about the barfly Spireiron, totally irrelevant!
Didn’t Swann expressly say he was sacked, following recent comments by a journalist?
Grimsby had momentum from last season.
They 100% would have stayed up if Hurst had been there abit longer.
Momentum? Have you seen their form from the back end of last season?
Remember when they had a player sent off for nutting a team mate?
What’s going on with our captain after the 4th goal? Trying to start on the inexperienced left-back?
I think you’re right MK but, for what it’s worth, I’d still be going to games if Swann wasn’t there.
But, equally, the game as a whole (not just SUFC) charges such high prices these days that they have turned fans into customers. £5 to get in ? “Yeah, fine, I’ll go along pretty much anytime”. £25? “Hang on, I want a bit more bang for my buck now”.

Grimsby up 40%!
McAtee has been brilliant for us this season. As for the jibes about it’s only the Conference, you only have to look at Sarfend to see it’s a better standard than you’re trying to make it out to be. Hurst knows how to get the best out of him, he has also bought in some great players for him to play off, and built a team that plays good football and is scoring for fun, from scratch with little money spent, unlike some in the National league.
Is that Ryan Taylor up front for you the ginger one who used to be at Rotherham?
I don’t think most Scunny fans are not in any doubt about how hard the Conference will be next season, despite Swann’s boasts about us still being a Football League club.

Agreed.
Go back to our last season in League One:
Walsall 4,927
AFC Wimbledon 4,253
Scunthorpe United 4,226
Rochdale 3,574
Burton Albion 3,351
Fleetwood Town 3,164
Accrington Stanley 2,763Rochdale, Burton, Fleetwood & Accrington all stayed up on those attendances.
This season in League Two:
Sutton United 2,762
Scunthorpe United 2,745
Colchester United 2,583
Barrow 2,497
Forest Green Rovers 2,196
Crawley Town 2,160
Salford City 2,041
Harrogate Town 1,739Forest Green top, Barrow top-7, Harrogate 2nd. And all of them above us!
Some substance to part of that, Mullen & Madden for example haven’t dropped to NL to further their careers.
Regarding McAtee, maybe he could be starring for us if properly managed. You’re right but you can’t say that and then claim that McAtee’s doing well for the Cods because the Conference is a poor standard. Which is it?

Got to say, I didn’t think it was a particularly strong backing, he wouldn’t nail his colours to the mast when Matt Dean pressed him.
October 4, 2021 at 9:19 pm in reply to: Harrogate away, time to show our fury as supporters? #214809And then get the club into trouble with the FA, that would go down well
Oh no! We might be fined and not be able to spend money on players! Or be docked points and end up bottom of the Football League! That’d be much worse.

I thought that with the second goal, it was a question of CM leaving defenders stranded.
Yep, pretty much the point I was making. Onarise didn’t know whether to stick or twist & Perry (for I think it is him again) is just standing on the edge of the box giving the scorer all the room in the world to score an admittedly fine goal.
I noticed that MK, it was in an answer to pretty much the same question I think!

Man alive, I hadn’t done the sums on goals scored, can it really only be 9? That is just atrocious.
We have something like 9 midfielders on our books and yet we still can’t find a single one who can get anywhere near an opposition player trying to shoot!
Look at the first goal – O’Malley has to cover for his missing midfielders so the winger is free to put the cross in.
Second goal – Perry & Onarise just watching a player shoot.
Third goal – Again, no one closing down the original shot. And watch Millen for the second ball – he barely reacts and when he does, he ambles slowly in the vague direction of our goal.
It’s absolutely laughable!
Very much so NI!
It’s all very well saying “two or three wins gets us up the table” but we’d a) have to maintain that sort of form for the rest of the season and b) it’s taken us 29 games (T-W-E-N-T-Y N-I-N-E) games to get our last 2 wins!
His tone was more optimistic than that but who knows? As SST pointed out, the planning permission only lasts until the middle of next year, so something will have to happen soon or he’ll have to submit a new application.

October 4, 2021 at 10:30 am in reply to: Harrogate away, time to show our fury as supporters? #214704Personally, I would not be having a go at the team, no point in this position. Support the team, sack the board would be my view!

A 2 point point gap now extrapolates to a 9 point gap by the end of the season. So we’d still need to out-perform those clubs by 10 points over 36 games. Challenging!
I thought the Bru crew asked some good, probing questions. My favourite was SST’s “what if you’re the problem, Peter?” when he brought up the survey.
Lots of talk but I didn’t think there were many firm answers. For example, Neil Wright asked him about the EFL loan but I don’t feel we got a clear answer on that, see also the questions about Bilson.
However, apparently we can expect an announcement on ground developments in the next few weeks! It’s great to get an old favourite like that back!

Mary Hopkin.
Those were the days, my friend.

We weren’t terrible but, yet again, incredibly ordinary.
I completely disagree, ordinary would involve a modicum of attacking flair, some defensive shape, a midfield which makes life hard for the opposition. We were a cardboard cutout of a team, a vague tribute act to a once-great band.
Has to be a wind up. Up shit creek? I know let’s bring in an ex manager who’s been out the game for nearly 10 years!
We’ve got an assistant manager who fits that bill!
Given we have 400 midfielders and no strikers, 5-3-2 seems optimistic!
