The full IFS report is here. Lengthy but you may find the key findings and full conclusion interesting. Points to stormy seas ahead…
https://ifs.org.uk/publications/reforms-roll-outs-and-freezes-tax-and-benefit-system
According to the IFS it won’t work. This from the conclusion of their latest report:
‘Planned discretionary reforms to taxes are returning money to households, with the richest gaining the most. But at the same time, freezes to tax and benefit parameters are significantly and stealthily changing the scope and size of taxes and benefits over time. As prices increase, they drag more people into the tax system and into higher rates of tax, increasing the tax burden, while eroding the value of benefits and reducing the number of people eligible.
The magnitude of these subtle changes should not be understated, as they more than cancel out the impact of the two high-profile explicit policy reforms – the planned cuts to the rates of National Insurance and income tax. For every £1 households on average will gain from these planned tax cuts in 2025–26, they will lose £2 as a result of policy roll-outs and freezes to tax and benefit parameters. Overall, the progressive effect of freezes and policy roll-outs is more than outweighed by the impact of the discretionary tax changes, making the combined impact of changes to the system broadly regressive.’

Never known Mark Bedford from Madness played double bass on this until today. Only nearly 40 years later…

That’s what I assumed
Get yourself to a match Alcy, catch up with some old pals, even if you might not enjoy the footy or lining your best bud’s pockets?
Are they at liberty to issue a statement about what happened or not?
Unrelated but I saw Heather Small do a festival set a few months ago. It was one of the highlights of the weekend, and I’m not a big fan of M People but their tracks can be very uplifting following 2 years of a pandemic.
I thought the main opposition to her ‘mini budget’ plans was from her Party colleagues not other agencies? What is it? Some advisors suggesting they blame someone else again?
‘Deerey, don’t you have enough threads dedicated to your row with Bucks without starting on this one too?’
Fair enough, but my comment wasn’t about a row with Bucks, it’s about being careful what you post, in this case ‘race’ having something to do with the leadership election. I can just imagine how something like that could be misrepresented in the future. But hey, happy to leave it there.
Just my opinion but it looks like gaslighting to me. I may be wrong but that’s what it looks like. Anyway, it’s obviously going nowhere so there it is
Who said ‘secrecy’? And who claimed they knew nothing about Tufton Street? Why do you persistently feel the need to exaggerate and distort what is put forward by others? The fact is Tufton Street has barely been in the mainstream media at all until recently. Don’t try and demean forum posters for suggesting there is a lack of transparency on this matter. It doesn’t surprise me in the slightest that you know a lot more than others might on this subject, seeing as you’re a Tory Party member with a background in PR.
Careful what you say anyway. However innocuous, Bucks may find some way to spin it in the future
‘all in the context that being Jewish or having Jewish friends was, according to this individual, unacceptable.’
Just reading that again. Shocking. Surely not from any of your ‘usual suspects’??
Well it would be if it were true. Siderite, I assume you were around at that time under the poster name ‘Bloodyrubbishiron’ (unless I’m mistaken?). Do you recall this instance? NI, I-A, 64 and Gurnelista, ring any bells? Sorry Bucks, but I’m just not buying that any poster you refer to as ‘them’ would have said that. Unless I missed it but I honestly don’t think so. And please don’t start with the ‘you never get anything wrong’ ‘Saint Deerey’ crap you used to come out with. If you may have misinterpreted what was actually said in order to smear other posters just admit it man!
Even less popular than Corbyn according to opinion polls. That’s hilarious.
Not trying to deflect attention away from Tufton Street are you Bucks? Regarding Monbiot, I don’t agree or subscribe to all his views at all but there’s nothing he’s saying about Tufton Street and it’s influence over Tory policies that’s not true. Anyhow, forget him, there are plenty of other sources that say similar things including the Beeb, but I suppose you’ll dismiss them aswell, just as you would any source who says something against your ideology?

‘People can make up their own minds about the facts behind this. If they choose not to believe me, that’s up to them.’
Yes, they can. I’ve told you I absolutely and genuinely cannot recall ‘highly racist’ comments ‘from at least one of “them”‘ but do recall some posts around antisemitism in the Labour Party. You are out of order insinuating what you do but it appears you’re not going to admit you’ve made it up so I suppose we’ll have to leave it there. Just a note of caution though, don’t be under the illusion you’ve convinced anyone about this, particularly given your track record of getting things wrong. Thanks.
‘The old board was like the Stasi’
Guess you never lived in East Germany during the Stasi’s day then if that’s what you think. Exaggeration or not, the old board, new board is not like the Stasi, in any shape or form.
Yes Tom. We may not be getting the results yet but hopefully they will come because the team is certainly performing better and better to watch. We’ve had enough dross to watch the last few years so little point in looking for negatives in more positive situations. There are improvements to be made for sure, particularly how we continue to try and defend leads. Address that and we may not be on course for another relegation.

Glad you’ve cleared that up. It’s just on face value, the OP looked like it could have been written by a fan of a rival club. Think it was the ‘wry smile’ bit.

There’s a 30min radio programme covering it if anyone is interested …

Why are you taking pleasure from seeing long suffering paying fans being a little optimistic, misplaced or not?

It also doesn’t justify him claiming at least one of ‘them’ has made ‘highly racist’ comments in the past when we know that not to be true. Let’s set the record straight for anyone viewing this forum who thinks it may be true.
Your post makes more sense now Siderite.
I see Braverman and Clarke are suggesting some of their own Party, including Gove, staged a coup against Truss and Kwarteng regarding the ‘mini-budget’. Of course it’s fantastic that this bunch of miscreants are united in governing the country out of the mess they created for millions, instead of spending yet more time on in-fighting, but perhaps a lot of this could have been avoided if they’d shared their plans with the Cabinet first, who may have told them they were heading for trouble? And before anyone attempts whataboutery regarding Labour; they’re not governing the country, so it’s irrelevant.
Anti semitic remarks are intolerable racism. No poster on this forum has uttered either anti semitic remarks / ‘highly racist comments’ you claim. I recall a discussion around the topic of anti semitism in the Labour Party, which you were involved with but I repeat, no poster in your ‘usual suspects’ made ‘highly racist’ comments about it. The fact you appear to not want to name the poster already indicates you’re on rocky ground. I’d suggest you’re exaggerating.
Sorry if this is coming across as pedantic but I genuinely have no idea who he’s claiming has made these ‘highly racist comments’ or roughly when it might have been. It bothers me that it may have been made up and I’d like to know the truth.
Nothing funny or hypocritical about it at all. I’ll ask you again, which one of ‘them’ has made highly racist remarks which the mods ignored while the others continue to support him and his views? Not only that ‘at least one of them’ implies there may be more than one. No rush. I’m not going anywhere. In your own time. Who, when, what?
‘what I’ve written is indisputable and anyone who thinks otherwise is in cloud cuckoo land.’ Lol, haven’t you said that about numerous other topics and been proven wrong? I think so. At least you’re humble about it
