Yep under Swann we changed from a club spotting talent, bringing it in then selling it on for profit when they had improved enough to be wanted by bigger clubs with bigger budgets. This basically kept us turning over reasonably successfully and for awhile we climbed the league structure to our highest point since the early sixties. Mr Swann bought a lot of decent players in who were over our budget and we got one promotion from league two and a couple of playoff flirtations but in the end had to sell our better players to pay off some of a huge debt we should never have been lumbered with. As many have said before, one man’s vanity almost cost us our club, that’s why we should be patient and tolerant with our current management structure, without them we would have been toast

A lot of shite was signed…. I lost count of the free transfers incoming but were on huge wages and had past their best 2 or so seasons prior to joining. Now need players who are under 28, have a point to prove and are therefore hungry to improve not just turn up and take a wage.

    Yes.
    As per MM above.
Should be doing better as a full time club, still early days but the optimism has evaporated

Always best to make subs around the 70 minute mark so the stats suggest. Jimmy might be trying it out on football manager with other ex players who fancy themselves a bit

my crystal ball is away at the repair shop .. but suppose a lot it depends on ones age.

Im 60 next bday so going on my prediction below the jury is still out.

3-5 years to get out of the NLN
    Then
5-10 years to get out the NL at the right end and back into the EFL.

Thats a min of 8 max of 15 years could well be pushing up daisies by then.

Living abroad will give you more years…. so I say yes you’ll see it !

That’s a great video and like someone else commented, JSW a nice touch which I thought was the cherry on top.

As Turnbull hinted we already have enough experience in the squad. I hope the majority of trialists are youthful, athletic and with a big point to prove. We had enough of the pension topping up during the Swann era.

The worst players in my era were signed during Swann’s tenure. People at the end of their careers earning silly money and we kind of let it slide due to fond memories of Beagrie , Crozzer and Barra

Who else would you like to see back? (Limited to those that are still mobile enough)
I’ll throw in Murphy, Cliffy, Dawson, Hayes & Sharp.

Ramon Nunez who we loaned from Leeds back in the day. He didn’t play many games, but you could tell he was a top player nevertheless. I’d throw in Lee Hodges too if he’s not already playing a part.

Both great players to watch. Pleased Cleveland is in !

Thanks to everyone for sharing memories both on here and X. I’m sure his family will shed a tear at how well he was thought of by one and all. A complete one of a kind gentleman and legend.

Good luck Andy on being appointed our manager, you have my full support as would anyone appointed into the position. Make good your claims of us being the fittest team in the league it was soul destroying watching part time teams looking far fitter and more committed than we were last season. I know fitness alone does not win football matches but it does help.

Completely agree with this and I’m sure as Andy Butler mentioned it he saw it as an issue.

Joey Barton anyone? Ticks a lot boxes for some; passionate, loyal, a geezer, and he’s available. And he’s cheap, judging by his recent outpourings.

Lol…. a good majority of the fan base, employees and the owner are female, so that may be an issue.

Don’t think Lawsy is up for it, too long out of the game and enjoying retirement although will make BPG happy.

I honestly have no idea it will be interesting who applies, if the job is advertised. Maybe Binface if he doesn’t get the Mayor gig?

Crozzer would be a great shout but not sure where he’s based and perhaps unrealistic financially… yes he was Adkins’ number 2 and Nigel is the great motivator, but Crozzer is the ultimate professional. Perhaps his number 2 could be a great motivator, could that be Andy Butler? Doubt Nelson would return, both due to travelling and how things went last time.

All ingredients to add to the spice of what could be a really good day. Hope everyone going enjoys themselves and the team play a blinder to get through, it won’t be easy but I’m positive. Hoping for a Roberts masterclass of tricky wing play.

Dull game. Both teams cause issues with long throws. Would Like to think both can be beaten at home on Saturday
