I am not convinced that we have any genuine WBs in the squad. We do have FBs, however, and we should use them as such.

Awesome start to the season. Sussed early on. (Predictable.) Adjustments desperately needed. Adjustments not forthcoming. Managerial belief hardens into becoming wholly inflexible.
At current rate, we are unlikely to make the playoffs – not even close.
A season being wasted but at least the early season points should mean that we won’t be in any relegation trouble.1 user thanked author for this post.
I got accused of ‘talking garbage’ in September for having the nerve to point out the many deficiencies and how we’d inevitably be a-tumblin’ down the table.

Inflexibility rules?

The system is not getting the best out of the players.
I wasn’t there but it sounded as if all three CBs gifted a goal to Southport, according to Torps.
We need a simpler system which ordinary players can cope with.6 users thanked author for this post.
Sickening.
Dire defending.
Torps tearing his hair out.A fit Carlton (finally) and an improving Fishburn – the dominant CM player is the number one need.
Last night perhaps showed that it is more the way you play rather than the system itself.
WBs pushed 15 – 20 yards further forward. For the first time in weeks we had a bit of space to work in.
I agree about Fishburn – his best game for the club and by a margin.
Welcome back Carlton!
Clunan was simply super.
Even so, we made hard work of a pretty basic task, at times.
Nicholson lost the ball very badly on two occasions – and could have cost us.
Southport will be tougher.2 users thanked author for this post.
Not gonna travel from Sheffield this evening. Shall watch on Vanarama.
Those who seem confused when AB has apparently contradicted himself – I want to deconfuse a little.
20 points from 10 games. Super stuff.
AB seemed to think that it is reasonable to believe that he can repeat this feat using the current setup.
I disagree. The evidence of my eyes is clear. This is not possible.
I shall be doing a steady count up of points over the games 11 – 20. And so as to be 100% fair to the manager – I am only asking him for a mere 15 points. That would help fuel a promotion push.
25% fewer points than 20 from the next 10 would give me a real boost.
Have I ever wanted more to be proved wrong, I wonder.I have long argued against having too many loan players at the club. That does not mean none whatsoever.
Youngsters can be the greatest potential risk, IMHO. Can we not borrow a player or two for a month with a view to extending their stay if they help to improve us?
That should not be too costly if it all goes pear shaped.2 users thanked author for this post.
Cheers. Used to go there in the 60s and 70s.
Is Wilson’s still open?
I’ve driven past on several lunchtimes and it hasn’t been.… playing some nice free flowing football that’s effective & productive …
No. Sorry Rene I don’t understand.1 user thanked author for this post.
They may have a freak bad day.
Fishburn is a work in progress.
I’m not sure that he yet realises just just how tough and hard you need to be in that role.
Irrespective of whether my call is right or not, he is actually getting rather too much pitch time.
Has there ever been anything said about why Carlton is yet to contribute? – Updates? At least we got the £1,125.
Ah.’If we win home games.’
Yes. There’s the rub.I get that, IA. But broker in some of the most unattractive football we’ve ever played – and attendances are going to take a hit.
At this precise moment, I’d take 7th if you could guarantee it.
Get Carlton fit?
What is the problem with the lad?1 user thanked author for this post.
When AB finally has to start the process of changing the system, I’m hoping that we are still in contention. The longer we wait, the more problematic it’s gonna be.
I am far from convinced that our lads are fitter than all the semi-pro teams.
(Incidentally, I am unwilling to judge the fringe players until we have seen what they can do in a better system.)
We have all been discussing for a while the duo of loanees we need but time is of the essence. If action is not taken before we drop out of the playoffs – the standard of player that we can attract will have diminished.2 users thanked author for this post.
Just wondering. How many think that we’ll get, more or less, the same amount of points in the next ten games as in the first ten?
Personally, I’d be pretty happy with 15.That’s certainly arguable BFB.
Extremely difficult to sack AB ten minutes after his contract extension, innit?
Yesterday left me profoundly worried. AB admitted that the first half had been badly below par but failed to see that a big improvement in the second half was simply not good enough. Being 50% better than dreadful equates to POOR.
How many defeats and bad draws will it take for him to see what so many of us are seeing?
His mind is set and I almost dread what will happen if we we win an odd game or two.
He had a system that worked. It was not at all fun to watch but we got the points.
He doesn’t seem to recognise that things have changed.1 user thanked author for this post.
Gotta disagree about Clunan yesterday, Cliff.
He worked harder than anyone on the pitch; never stopped trying to get the others to do their jobs; was my MOTM.
Okay. He wasn’t hugely successful – I’ll grant you that – but he wanted to win more than any other Iron player, IMHO.4 users thanked author for this post.
I came on here to make a list – a very long list.
Sorry, guys. I haven’t got the time to make a full list. Far, far too long.
All I’ll say is that, driving into Sheffield tonight, I heard Butler’s explanation for recent disasters on the steam radio.
I was far from impressed. He seems to think he’s on the right track! He even thinks that we can make the same amount of points in the next ten games as in the first ten. If we follow this track, we’ll be out of the playoff places well before New Year.
Incidentally, got far more impressive assessments from Torps.Butterfield, I am informed, is still not able to complete games and is in decline.
In 10 appearances for Gateshead, he has scored one goal and had zero assists.
(Didn’t they ship SEVEN the other day, BTW?)
Butterfield would add no height nor weight to our CM. Players who are slight in stature are not what we need in the current setup.
Ah. Remember those happy days of the past when – on occasions – we actually won a few headers in CM?1 user thanked author for this post.
If we do change the formation around – it might just suit the fringe players better who aren’t apparently warming to the tricky 3-5-2 system. We perhaps need to know.
If they can’t adjust, we need to start clearing ’em out on loan – trouble is that we won’t get back all the wages we are are currently paying. Probably not even close.
As for Roberts, I suspect that he would be the winger that AWG would like to see if we change the system.
What’s more, for me, Nicholson is giving rise to concern. -
