Hill didnt give a shit ,, he had zero connection with the town or club , meant nothing to him and was only there for the money and to play out a role as Swans puppet..reminded me of Col Custer at the little big horn.
For a so called professional manager Hills post match ramblings were an embarrassment… where is he now ?? retired i hopeYes in terms of importance the up n coming King Charles Coronation is second only to the 24th of May GP deadline day … will Harry turn up who cares , will DH with the wonga we all care ??

Your post is an excellent one, constructive criticism is always good, not that you have been very critical.
You are correct about me knowing Mr Hilton very well, therefore it can be frustrating to see criticism from all quarters for just about anything he does, or doesn’t do ?
Your assessment of the gamble he took to stay up is 100% correct, and your other thoughts are spot on as well.
If you and any friends want to visit Ilkeston anytime you are very welcome, I have some wonderful ideas that would benefit both our clubs (innovative pioneering interaction that someone like yourself would quickly grasp).
I am the catering manager at Ilkeston, which you see if you visit?, and not Mr Hilton masquerading as someone else, as has been suggested by some on here.
Ilkeston is a hive of activity everyday of the week, so any day is fine to see the running of the club, and if Mr Hilton is left to get on with things you may well find Scunthorpe will follow the model we have…. self suffient, susstainable and a very positive buzz from the staff, players, and most importantly the fans.Thats a very kind offer Patrick , dont suppose you will cover travel expenses to Ilkeston for my son and i would you ?? JOKE we are based in Asia !! 55555555555
It is rather sad ironic that our long awaited trip back to the UK partly due to the pandemic will coincide with Scunny being in tier 6 , never the less we will take in as many home n away games as possible as well as meeting new family members for the first time (grand kids n son in law) whilst traveling around Blighty for a bit of sightseeing so why not the promised land Ilkeston to sample your fare , whats the beach like?
My sons last and only visit to Glanford park was in the 2003-4 season when the football on offer was a tad better than in the recent years of decline ..he was 4 years old now 23 he still finds my obsession with the Iron rather strange.

Welcome back Patrick .. after all the years of doom n gloom you will obviously have some in the fan base that are of cup half empty mentality… i dont see much trolling here but lots of massively differing opinions, sadness and concern.
For my part ..
Im firstly hugely relieved we still have a club ..thanks to DHI am very positive re DH and his actions as it seems he will listen to the fans (re not moving training to Ilk was quite a big issue within the fan base) , something thats not happened for years.
You are correct he was in between a rock n a hard place when deciding to sign all the players (TOO MANY) in a gamble to stay up ..sadly a gamble he /we lost… if he had done nothing he would have been slagged off but IMO i think many of the signings were rushed and just too many came in which just produced a melting pot of unknown talent and loanees who deep down dont care hence very difficult to gel in any sort of quick time frame.
We are down NLN it is ..this was very likely before DH arrived on the scene hopefully this is rock bottom.
I too like you think things will come good with DH at the helm .. however im not going to say it will be with JD as long term manager if results dont happen within the first third of next season.. hindsight is a wonderful thing and if fans can see some issues with JD im sure DH can see them too but JD should be given his chance with his own players not the jumbled bunch of pick n mix hes been working with to date.
You obviously know DH quite well , i like the sound of the fella and i get the impression hes not fussed about making hard decisions including where necessary sacking who ever needs removing from the club.I hope the retained list is short Chappo n Elliot should be kept …after that its over to you Jimmy lad do yer best and prove those fans who are worried about you wrong .. i am on the fence with regard to JD i like somethings some stuff i dont so lets just see how it all pans out
Talk of Nelson, yes he seemed to be getting a bit more from the same group than previous managers had but the bar was low with Cox n Hill being total disasters.. maybe in hindsight DH could of saved a few bob and kept him but lets not forget he is still there and seems to be on JDs shoulder on the touchline so his input is still there , we will never know how thing would have worked out and thats the past .. the future is hopefully bright with DH … personally im overjoyed we still have a future.

The clock is ticking re GP ownership change , end of next month i believe after which an update from DH with regard to “the plan” going forward both with the club its self ,surrounding land and the 1899 gig would be much appreciated and fans can heave a sigh or relief on that issue.
No more rash decisions followed by U turns.
The retained list will be interesting .. im hoping its very short.
Whatever it takes and with JD or another as manager as we appear to be operating full time confirmed by DH (NO U TURN YET) one would hope we can at least form a team that is competitive and wins its fair share of games thus in and around the right end of NLN ..
JD knows positive results have to come and IMO if after a dozen games we are mid table or lower im sure DH will act accordingly for that reason im predicting a very difficult n mixed first NLN season but so much depends on what players come in and who chooses to sign them.
so in order what do i want just a few of many i could list….
the safety of the club is the first priority, GP ownership sorted
play positive attractive football and win some games that keeps the fan base engaged , i really hope both home and away support continues to be in big numbers it will help the team a lot.
Players with some passion n pride in their profession that care and not just there for the wage
A shiny new local training facility with a self funding academy with all youngsters tagged with sell on clauses.
Good grub on match days
Back in the NL within 2 seasons
Back in L2 within 3 seasons
(yep i know ONLY 5 years in non league is being very optimistic)** Blow away L2 L1 then Championship promotion to the EPL and win the CL final
(sorry on the local moonshine again i am on holiday)NOT TOO MUCH TO ASK IS IT ????
A U-turn would not have been needed if proper discussions had been held.
It is obvious nothing had been discussed with any coaches in the academy before the ‘it will be scrapped’ statement was made. How do we know this – well that morning the U15s were away at Bradford and a parent said the coaches actually received messages from friends about what had been said ! They had not got a clue !!
That was wrong, then you find out that to shut it down was actually going to cost a fair amount of money. That would have been known if the correct people had been talked to.
Now we need to see what the financial plan is to fund the academy moving forward.
So for me the jury is out on Mr Hilton.
That does shed a bit more light on the issue for sure and 100% the details of a financial plan need to be available to see where any sponsorship funds would go.
It’s brilliant for all concerned that the academy has been saved including myself as an employee of it, but it doesn’t change the fact that the facilities are not fit for purpose and still needs major investment.
As it has been said the kit is second rate, the pitches are terrible and the office is very dated, the staff put in so much hard work for the young lads and must feel embarrassed at the facilities they are given.
So the hard work must start again and hope we can get some money through sponsorship as well as the EFL and Mr Hilton’s, so if any businesses are reading please, please try and help these talented staff and young players.
Precisely the reason why the plan needs to be aired .. first mention of sub standard facilities as before the closing of the academy was down to cost cutting and its past failures to see any returns via sell on clauses.
Sponsoring an up n running academy is one thing but knowing where any funds will be used is obviously very important , sounds to me like a total revamp required as well as day to day costs and expenses. You would have thought the commercial side of the club would be drumming up financial support from local business regarding the academy, I mean it’s not rocket science for them to be doing their job in all aspects to help the entire club run better and be better funded surely
Agreed .. the club seem to have plenty of sponsors for match day games balls etc etc i would hope the clubs commercial department have / should have been approaching as many local businesses and any other possible routes of income in the way of sponsorship for the academy.
IMO .. The issues with GP ownership and the grey areas need clearing up after which more businesses and /or individuals may wish to assist, when confirmed the bad Swan smell has finally gone and he is finally history.
IfA the money is needed now for the academy not in the future or it will fold.
I can just imagine what my two biz partners would say re any donation /sponsorship at this moment and i wont embarrass myself even putting it too them …the fact GP ownership is still up in the air along with other grey areas im afraid a cautious approach is needed much the same as IMO Hilton should of done directly after he purchsed the club ..look where hasty business dealings got the club !!!
Re the academy ..great news that a viable plan has been submitted and approved .. will we be privvy to this plan anytime soon so any people wishing to assist know more details ? and more so does it include a hefty salary for Daws ? i assumed he would be one in the cull box on Hiltons list of where things can be streamlined. If would be interesting to know just how many back room staff will be kept on or given their p45s .. or who has already agreed to leave the building Mussy, Daws to name 2 …how many coaches does the club need in NLN level ?
David Hilton has my backing and i feel positive he will come good ..alas not so with JD the jury is still out on the manager and i think Hilts will have a difficult decision to make on that score in the not too distant future.

Lucky escape for Yeovil .. whatever salary hes on taking him without realizing he was injured is sheer folly …oh BTW Rance has been crap from what ive seen.
One for the bin .. in fact all except 3 or 4 should be binned off immediately.
Its safe to say ,nothing has improved and the football has got worse since the takeover
On the pitch ..yes totally agree
i log into fishy just to read comments , the fact the Scunny thread is circa 180 pages long indicates within codland there is interest and concern re your loving neighbors current plight .. a plethora of varying comments including the expected and deserved piss taking ..something that would be exactly the same if the situation was in reverse… whether its banter , piss taking or general hatred i just take it with a pinch of salt and with the state of things worldwide at the moment there are other bigger concerns than this.
Im very positive Hilton will come good and the Iron will be back over the course of the next few years ..alas not so confident it will be with JD.
In the last Ironarmy YT podcast (No 4) IMO one of the guys (i think it was the ginger fella, can i say that 555) hit the nail on the head at 53 mins into the vid saying we still have a club and how others like Bury n Maclesfield would love to have a spot in the NLN ..i see it like way and whilst it is pretty shitty at the moment im sure in time we can do the same as York and Stockport managed in the past.
In the mean time some strange away days in store next season , local footy good pies n beers as Jack says oh and hopefully better days on the pitch.Re Scunny in NLN recently, bearing in mind the team have been in the relegation zone for months on end in the last few seasons taking 1800 to Notts , 1000 to York and even 400 plus to Gateshead when more or less already down speaks volumes .. and it will make for some away fixtures feeling strangely like home ones as some attendances in the NLN are in the hundreds , hopefully a good atmos can help the players.
To all our seaweed chomping chums out there ..have your fun , enjoy it while it lasts but keep an eye on your rear view mirror for that Claret n Blue colour in the distance now but not for too long… we will be back !!

shame a certain Graham Alexander was at GP today to witness relegation … how i wish Swan had not sacked him and he could come back ..one of my favourite Scunny managers of all time.

Only one word to describe todays shambolic showing ,recent lethargic sub standard performances and subsequent 100% deserved relegation to regional football…
TOTAL AND UTTER ABSOLUTE CLUSTERFOOK EMBARRASSMENT
Hindsight is a wonderful thing ..but.. IMO
Fantastic Hilton took over from Swan (TBC)
Nelson should have stayed no new manager JD or anyone else was needed.
No crazy rush of sub standard signings maybe a couple max .. go with what we had for the rest of the season and see what happens.
Everything seemed so rushed when a step back and a level headed approach was needed.Alas .. Hilton chose to gamble and it back fired massively so he is at fault ..however the damage was done long before he arrived.
NLN it is thats the reality today and im hoping Hilton wakes up contemplating exactly what his gamble has turned into and how he can change the situation for the better.

indeed it was a cracker !! these two are light years ahead of all the other NL sides and its tragic one (prob Notts now) will have to face a the playoffs.
Well done to Wrexham they will be singing in the valleys today.
1 user thanked author for this post.
IMO Hilton has already said there needs to be redundancies and streamlining and there will be some hard decisions to be made .. i get that and agree but surely after doing this in the offices and non playing staff such has been the new mangers poor showing he must be contemplating JD position.
Without a doubt just about all the current players should go keep max 2 or 3 only , a summer recruitment drive like no other is needed my issue is that if JD gonna do this it could be mid way through next season before hes sacked and we are in another relegation fight .. im not sure what league is below NLN but we may well end up there.
I get the impression Hilton isnt daft , he must put his hands up and recognize JD has been shite thus admit HIS gamble to bring JD and a rush of signings has failed miserably.. as a business owner the buck stops with him and hes the one that can change it.
Sad day ..but most pretty much knew it was coming despite dreaming of a miracle which was never gonna happen with such a disjointed melting pot of sub standard uninterested talent. The only decent signing since the take over has been Chappo the rest pure dog mess…
They all want binning on recent showing .. Rance has been crap , twas alucky escape for Yeovil as he injured now and seems he was when he arrived WTF !!
i dont get the Whitehouse move to Chester hes getting MOTM there and the fans love him he has a bit of fight n passion sadly lacking in the shirkers he left behind at GP…but JD wouldnt use him and went with the uninterested loan signings over him which is shocking.
crap
Aldershot loosing but means buggar all..
Wrexham 0 – 1 Notts … Mullin diving all over the show AGAIN… the Taffys defo gonna get something from his theatrics

Interested Bystander – The alarm bell is already ringing for me and with some others but it seems the majority are relieved the club seems to be saved and don’t want to look too deep and are happy to accept what he says. Time will tell.
The majority of a club’s fanbase just want a team to support, only a minority are interested in what goes off behind the scenes and the backgrounds of those who are involved. As I see it, the questions about Hilton are not going to go away, it’s in his interests and one assumes in the best interests of Scunthorpe United if he answers those questions.
@ IB .. if you are not a Scunny fan you really shouldnt be too concerned , my gran says you smack of being a shit stirrer and she knows her shit !!
Nuttall playing ????
“a recalled O’Malley” but not Hallam. Is he injured?
AMAZINGLY Yes he is .. hamstring again

Consequently he lost his job and has since failed to find another, RH excepted.
Maybe Jimmy should take note of that?Cox has found his niche position ..RH commentary .. he seems to know all the answers and tactics now , shame he didnt before .. but he is reeelly reeelly brave though.

Interesting starting XI.
Looks like 4-4-2 with Sembie-Ferris and a recalled O’Malley the wide men.
Everton-Richards dropped in favour of Boyce. Hmmm!
A few surprises there ..Wilson dropped as well judging by the commentary from Gateshead he was gash ..zero effort or interest.

Having read the fishy thread most Cods wanted us to go down as low as possible and still do with many hoping for another relegation next season but not seeing too many actually stating want Scunny to go bust n not exist at all…but obviously some do
No doubt the Cods when successful are well supported and do have an excellent away following…
Having worked all over the area in my younger days as an insurance claims assessor it gives them a nice day out in the real world away from ear bashing seagulls, burnt out cars, boarded windows and super glued letter boxes of the Nunsthorpe Estate
1 user thanked author for this post.
Surprised to see the Scunny thread on the fishy forum still going strong 166 pages as of today … i think deep down the cods really do care and such is the love its quite possible some will be inviting Iron fans over for candy floss, fish n chips at Steeles and a walk along Cleggy mud flats.
Strangely enough the fat lady singing GIF i pulled from fishy to post here has now made it back along with my tongue in cheek marine themed comment…
IMO the cods are only doing what Scunny fans would do (taking the piss) if they were on the decline as they were not to long ago, its a funny old game and hoping this local derby wont be off the fixture list for too long,,seems an age since the Cods FAVOURITE PLAYER KVV scored at Blund hell Park.

Hey Rene PLEASE can you assist with the commentary links as usual , i need to be brave ..many thanks in advance.
Im up at my home in the North and still getting blocked when trying to search n log in more often than not.
Sorry off topic but ..
A happy Easter to all who care to celebrate it , it was one of my favourite times of the year in blighty.. i fondly remember Milk Tray Easter eggs , Cadbury mini creme eggs and latterly getting bladdered down to pub n going to watch the weekends matchesA full week off here , everything is closed due to the New year celebrations, cabined up as its nasty 40-50 degrees day time high with an overnight lows 24 to 27 .. bad air pollution until the rains arrive another good reason to stay indoors with the AC on…hence posting more than usual.

Interested Bystander: good points raised. In all honesty, most of us are conveniently avoiding these questions as we all know it’s probably not going to make for a nice read. A shame we don’t have a strong local newspaper to follow up these leads anymore.
I’ve spoken with Ilkeston fans and their reviews are nothing but positive, in terms of evidence, that’s all we can really form an opinion on at the moment.
I may be wrong ( and I hope I am wrong), but I’ve got a feeling in my gut that things might go tits up when the ground completion is due.
Last sentence ..my thoughts exactly ……hope im wrong too.
