Same here, I have of course muttered things to myself or those unfortunate enough to be stood near me.

However, directed and loud abuse at one of your own players, is bad form for me.

Barrows is by far not the problem to our current situation.

He’s a solid enough defender who should have been used as a utility man to cover across the back.

That combined with what he brings to the table off the pitch; coaching background, great links with local youngsters to try re-build an academy (which seems light years away at present).

I could live with the above and I’m sure many other sane thinking individuals could too.

Some of the abuse received from certain sections of the crowd is quite frankly unacceptable.

All said and done he’s an academy product who started with us at 10/11 and has come back from a career ending injury.

His commitment can never be denied, which is more than can be said more some members of this 23 man squad at present.

Assuming this would mean paying off his contract, unless there are clauses involved (I’m no expert in this field).

Sadly I think this is our lot this season, which frightens the life out of me as return to NLN would simply devastate us.

23 players and yet we seem critically light in midfield.

Beestin is not a CM, he’s a no.10 and a good one on his day.

Butterfield as good as he is technically requires a solid midfield around him, to allow him to do what he does best and that is add that bit of magic that others can’t at this level.

We saw this two seasons ago in NLN.

He’s a luxury player and that’s no slight on him.

He was expected to run around trying to win the ball back yesterday far too often and that’s not his game.

My main concerns are we haven’t filled the void that Ewing and Westbrooke have left.

This and the fact that Evans looks a shadow of his former self.

Was the pitch last season hiding the fact that his legs aren’t up to it?

Different game altogether now going from the sandpit to the bowling green.

Butler is going to have to make some difficult decisions for me in this position.

I’m all for bringing new revenue streams into the club, but let’s be honest, who’s going to buy these apart from a few die hard, odd balls.

No offence to any die hard, odd balls out there.

For me we miss a trick with not selling such items as junior training gear, vaguely appealing menswear.

Definitely plenty of positives to take from the game, the work rate, intensity and off the ball play was MILES better than it has been.

Gale, Butterfield, Denton all excellent.

Plus of course, 3 much need points!

I’m not a fan of utilising 3 CB’s with wing backs, I don’t think we get the best out of Jones in this role (he did play well though) as I think it’s a lot to ask and certainly Brennan doesn’t fit into this shape.

There still seems to be a few square pegs in round holes for me, Monday will be another big test as Carlisle will come good at some point.

Agree with everything you have said, unfortunately the odds are massively stacked against young, would be footballers.

I myself have a nephew who is 10 and would likely be in the academy set-up with us if there was one, so maybe my view is obscured due to this..

Thanks for your first hand insight Rene, it certainly sounds like your own experience with the football youth system has soured your opinion.

I can appreciate and respect that.

The bigger question for the development of young footballers in this country and why more aren’t given the chance of a pro contract is likely down to what you hit the nail on the head with before – managers are reluctant to take a gamble on young lads as it’s their reputation on the line.

Which again is dictated by the impatience of the the consumer (us lovely people, the fans) for results.

It’s a shame as I genuinely believe there’s enough talented young footballers in the UK to fill out every professional club twice over.

Maybe I’m a dreamer, but as someone once famously said “give youth a chance”..
