Jarvis, Hallam, Bunn & Perry all overlooked in favour of youngsters. Throw KDT into the mix and how much money is being wasted on non contributors?

I never understand clubs “freezing out” players. If you’re paying them, use them. Anything else is a massive waste.

I get what you’re saying – you’d think there’s be an upside somewhere for us!!

But, out of those 38, who (disregarding those who have been sold by our glorious leader of course during the course of events) haven’t played that many games when they could – who would have made any kind of significant difference?

As far as I can see there hasn’t been that 20 goal a season man lurking in the wings, or that rock solid defender who can’t get a game, or that creative midfielder parked on the bench.

All I can see is a load of crappy cards just being frantically shuffled backwards and forwards.

I get what you’re saying and we all know where the ultimate blame lies but after nearly 30 games, do we really even know what Hill’s preferred formation is? Why was Scrimshaw sent back so readily and replaced with someone infinitely poorer like Pyke?

Hill stated many weeks ago that his focus is the rebuild for next season.
I fully applaud this logical thinking.
Results, at the moment, are of zero consequence. If we lose every game by six – it just doesn’t matter. Let him experiment with what he’s got – especially where the youngsters are concerned.
I refuse to criticise until I see that this incredibly capable manager is unable to make this rebuild work. (Even then … can we pretend that restraints from on high have not stymied him?)
I really detest folks getting on the back of people doing their best in impossible circumstances.

I completely disagree with this. Relegation can happen, it nearly did to us in 2004. Had we gone down that season, I firmly believe we’d have been back within a couple of years, we had a decent squad and good crowds.

What is different this time is that to the fans it appears that since January everyone has just given up on trying to stay up. There have been some appalling performances and results. We hardly ever score goals and we’ve only won 4 games all season. It’s incredibly corrosive and there will be consequences to it, driving away fans, many of whom won’t return perhaps ever. At a time when fans are looking for some rays of light and reasons for hope, the club is offering them nothing. The only thing we’re seeing more of at GP is goons with handcuffs.

What building for next season are we seeing anyway? Playing youngsters who may leave anyway? Getting rid of first-team players who would have been useful next season?

A few people have mentioned his signings in January, I can’t go along with criticising Hill for that, although for the most part they have not been good, they were probably the best available to him thanks to Swann.

I understand where you’re coming from but why get rid of Loft & Hippolyte and not replace them with improvements? We didn’t have to get rid of those two players. Yes, I know we had to sell players to bring others in but if the net effect is making the squad weaker, why bother?

Didn’t Swann say Cribb was on a two year deal and was staying with the club on the podcast?. Oh wait, Swann said so….yep he’s leaving.

I think Swann said that he was on a “scholar deal” or something like that (please correct me if I’m wrong) but I don’t know how that relates to a full professional contract in terms of his future.

You’re going to organise a protest against a man who has said he is in talks with 3/4 parties about selling the club?

Thick as…. all it will do is put off any potential owners. As Simon Elliott said on Facebook the club have already lost sponsors because of some ‘fans’ actions.

Protests might put off potential owners? Give over. If such potential owners are put off by fans expressing their views, then they’re not the sort of owners we want.

I think your right Ferrite about the risk of playing the kids too much but Hill hasn’t got many options just now as regards Cribb. Grant is still banned, Hallam I presume is still injured and Perry has disappeared into the ether I guess. We never get updates on the last two so we presume they just aren’t available and I believe Grant serves his last game ban on Saturday.

That’s fair and maybe Cribb will benefit from these games, I’m just a bit uneasy about it.

There’s also Hackney, Gallimore, Beestin & presumably Perry who could be involved.

    Compare and contrast:

    Keith Hill P26, W2, D7, L17

    Nick Daws, P25, W10, D10, L5

One is apparently the right man to take us forward next season, the other was sacked in August of his first season in charge.

Very unprofessional to announce his exit on Facebook.
    We are a complete embarrassment.

Presumably you realise he won’t have resigned via Facebook? He’ll have notified the board of his resignation in the proper way. Facebook is just his way of then notifying the fans which seems perfectly reasonable to me.

I cannot believe anyone could watch the current Scunthorpe side and think that the goalkeeper is the priority position for a replacement.

Based on Saturday yes, but, at the moment, he’s the same as many of the squad. They have ability but show it one game in 3,4 or 5 and can also ruin one of their good days with a ridiculous, avoidable error.

Maybe I didn’t explain myself very well, I was trying to say that I don’t think it’s great for players to be playing every single game at that age. I’m all for investing in youth and developing our own players but we have to be careful with them, especially when they’re in such a terrible team.

I’ve seen it Ferrite. A good watch for Iron fans of a certain vintage!

Was hugely amused by the way Staffy looked then compared to today lol. Mind you, I’ve not worn too well….

Apart from swapping a nylon suit for a donkey jacket and getting a bit thinner on top, I don’t think he’s changed that much at all!

I think he’s been a massive disappointment. His record is considerably worse than Cox’s! How is that even possible? None of his new signings look any good, he sounds completely disconnected in every interview and the team appears to have given up after the Oldham away win. It’s shocking and he should be on his way with the rest of the players in the summer.

I’m not comfortable with him being played every week. A few games ago, Hill was saying that Burns had to be managed carefully and basically couldn’t play every week, yet a 16 year-old is being asked to play every game in our midfield. It doesn’t feel ideal to me for his development.

Yeah, like I mentioned before, there must have been some old boy networks involved to keep out the arrivistes from non-league, otherwise how would Hartlepool have survived all those votes?

    Christie Park, Morecambe.

Were Morecambe still there when they came into the League? I can’t remember.

I originally had us to be officially relegated at Easter based on being 12-15 points behind but I now wonder whether it might come as early as the Mansfield game. I never expected us to apparently just give up so early. 2 points from the last 24 on offer, 5 from the last 48. Pathetic.

We have only been reelected twice in our history and only once in the 70s.

Good details, however I still wonder if other clubs were voted out more readily. I’m sure I read of a club that was voted out the first time they applied for re-election because it was a long way from anywhere. Maybe Gateshead?

sorry, miss read it, but we have played MK Dons at the Hockey Stadium.

They were still the original Wimbledon when they played at the Hockey Stadium.

Ooh, that’s a controversial way of looking at it. You’re right in some ways, wrong in other ways!

White City hasn’t been used since WWII has it? Thames FC were 1920s/early 30s I think?

    AFC Wimbledon- Plough Lane(New Ground)

Did we ever play at the original Wimbledon’s Plough Lane?

What about Milton Keynes when they played at the hockey stadium?

How about The Dell at Southampton?

We have to also consider the fact that despite the severe cost cutting measures, the club is likely running at a loss again this season, and will likely do the same again next season

Do you reckon? Given the player sales made and the poor quality players signed (plus the number of loanees), I assume we’re close to Swann’s break-even target.

Regarding (re)development, am I right that the planning permission expires in July? If so, presumably it’s getting quite urgent to make a start on the work.

They also scored more goals than we’ve currently got (and I can’t see us surpassing those totals either).

I hadn’t check goal scoring but it looks like you’re right, we’re on for 31 as it currently stands which is still pitiful.

One record we have beaten is Rochdale’s woeful away record in 1977/78, won 0, drew 2, lost 21, scored 14, conceded 57. Remarkable.

History says that Workington were voted out of the league because of their far-off geographical position, whereas clubs like Rochdale, Hartlepool and even us survived multiple re-elections in the 1970s through a combination of old boys’ networks and other clubs being less popular.

One other thing I didn’t mention on my first post is our own record in 1974/75, which is presumably our worst season to date, when we got 36 points, with 7 wins (all at home) and scored 41 goals.

There not far off on what they’ve done Ferrite you can buy by direct debit with no interest payable, just a £25 arrangement fee. (Sure that will not be good enough it never is)

Pretty steep interest rate on that loan but I’m glad there’s a facility like that.
