I am no property developer but I suspect there are not many towns in England with a lower price for building land than Scunthorpe.

Absolutely. Plus the economy is absolutely booming at the moment!

For reference, Crawley’s new owners claim to have paid £5 million for the club last week, which did not include the ground.

Any further news on this? Need something to cheer me up after the last 4 seasons!

Whatever happens, I can’t imagine it will be quick, these things take time.

Icing on the cake for me was having Beckford in for a while too. An amazing curler at home to (?) followed by a near identical goal at Gresty Road in mid-week. Really spoilt. As if we didn’t have enough gems.

Rotherham. We played terribly and then Beckford did that. Later in the game, their German midfielder Bopp missed a penalty. A German missing a penalty? It really was our year!

Exactly this, my lad never got see the fantastic times we had, when he’s in the Iron Bar with me he stares at the pictures of a full GP and players celebrating and he can’t believe how good we were. And i’m not just talking about success and winning every week, when I was his age we were at OSG and crap BUT we felt we were part of something and as crap as the team was EVERY SINGLE ONE of them gave 100% for Scunthorpe United, week in , week out.

I completely agree with that sentiment but I’m glad I didn’t start supporting the Iron when we were so good, just imagine how much harder the bad times would be if you had grown up seeing us beating all-comers? Sometimes I’m glad I’m a bit older and can remember less successful times! It helps you really appreciate the good times.

I reckon Sharp’s got a few more seasons left at a higher level before coming back to us!

God, I’d forgotten how bad the GP pitch was that season, I remember a lot of fans being worried it was going to cost us promotion.

    Played 37, lost 12.

I’d definitely take that sort of record for us next season!

That was quite the hobby: the club was “self-sustainable”, the accounts showing a loss of just £16,000.

“We now have a club, virtually debt-free, playing in the Championship League for the first time in almost 50 years. Season ticket sales are at a record level of 4,000, double the 06/07 season and revenue from the Football League will increase by at least £1.3 million. It is your directors’ intention to increase the players’ budget by a further million pounds and to support Nigel as much as is prudently possible to strengthen his squad in the January transfer window.”

We really didn’t know just how good we had it!

I thought we would at least be the first club with the dreaded R. But Crewe beat us to that.

    And they’ve got 25pts!

If we had to get to 5th from bottom for safety, we’d have been relegated a couple of weeks ago!

He was devastated dropping out off the league. He now excepts it but still goes to every game. That is something we have to get over pretty quickly. Hopefully we can have a clear out and get in some players in who will put up a fight to get us out of the league. Not easy guys.

Thing is, the Cods went down with 43 points, having won 10 league games. They might have been rubbish but they were nearly twice as good as we are this season. They were only 5 points off safety. Coming back from a season like that is difficult but not impossible; coming back from a season like we’ve had, with 24 points and 4 wins is a much bigger ask. Unless there are big changes, the long-term impact on our club could be huge.

If they don’t go up my nearest game next season will most likely be Halifax! Your southern based supporters will have much more choice.

Would you be closer to Gateshead’s pitch at Halifax than in the stands at the International Stadium?

Grant and Feeney – legs gone?
Grant oozes class but was off the pace today and Feeney at WB was moderate.

Two more wonderful signings the club has made.

On the flip side, whilst I’m all for investing in youth and bringing through our own players, I’m a bit uncomfortable with the number of them being thrown in to such a poor team in such a miserable environment. I hope we’re not ruining their careers before they’ve even started.

SS after the horse has bolted! Swann steps down as chairman, announces his intention to sell, has potential new owners in the stand THEN you decide it’s a good time to ‘protest’.
Surely you see how ridiculous that is?

He’s right, we should have been doing this months ago.

But for people like UTI, there is never an acceptable form of protest, there is always a reason not to do something. You have to wonder why.

For the name, we should borrow the original Middlesbrough team’s name and be Scunthorpe Ironopolis.

The difference Barton is that I completely lost interest in football altogether. I don’t even bother watching MOTD on a Saturday night, something unthinkable years ago. Whereas others, who would still love to go are being stubborn and deliberately boycotting the club just because of Swann. Cutting your nose off to spite your face so to speak.

No matter how much we support our club, the club is not ENTITLED to our money. It needs to EARN it.

If we finish 12th in the Conference, we’ll have won roughly 15 to 18 games, which would be AMAZING after recent seasons!

Serious question – what is the fayre on offer these days at Glanford Park ? eg: are fried onions available with burgers ?

No idea but I notice the catering point at one end of the terrace doesn’t tend to be opened these days, so you have to go to the other end (where the toilets are). Not sure why that’s the case.

Not just the results, it’s the lack of any positives. What sort of football does a Keith Hill team play? We still have no idea. We don’t score more goals under Hill. Our defence isn’t any better. It’s very hard to see any progress at all.

The free kick was awarded because the ref decided it was a foul. The laws talk about “the opinion of the referee”, a bit often overlooked in tedious punditry about the “right” decision.

    1) Lost to the award of a dubious free kick.

Nope, lost to an inability to defend a cross. Don’t fall for distraction tactics about refereeing decisions.

Do you want him to go to Toronto

It’s better to run to Toronto than to run to somewhere you don’t want to.

TBH, I felt that Hill’s post-match comments on Saturday suggested he may not be on as firm ground as he originally thought. I got the impression he may not be staying next season after all.

The accounts seem to indicate last season’s wage bill was close to £3m, which given how bad the team was, is an incredible number!

When all that’s left at the bottom of the biscuit barrel is crumbs, it doesn’t matter how many times you dip your hand in, you’re only going to come out with crumbs!

A crumb of comfort would be quite welcome at this stage!

The players should be ‘attacking the DRE’ (ha) in the 2nd half, so it should be quite noticeable when it happens.

The cameras will definitely be facing the Railway End in that case!

You could argue that we are due a stint in national league due to the size of our club- and I’d intend to agree with you- however the manner in which we’ve fallen is disgraceful; the endless list of poor recruits, the fact we’ve got the Chairman’s son as chief scout, mustering 24 points at nearly the seasons end, the fact we barely register more than a shot a goal a game.

I agree. It’s not the relegation that is so shocking, that can happen, it’s the manner of the relegation. 4 wins! 24 points! 10 points adrift! 26 goals! It’s truly record-breaking stuff.

Add to that all the other issues which you list in your post and it’s a heady cocktail.

We support the 72nd minute walkout. We also need some banners made to support this and chanting Swann out throughout.

72 is quite late for a walk out and given we’ll probably be 3-0 down by then, the impact might be quite limited.

Has to be before 60 mins for my money and ideally in the first-half.

Thinking about it a bit more, I think the real disappointment with Hill is the way he’s not given my any hope for the future.

I didn’t expect him to keep us up but I thought we were getting a positive presence and someone who could at least give us a bit of the Adkins effect, galvanising supporters. Instead, we are told to revise our expectations and “embrace” our current situation. Not particularly inspiring!

Perhaps he has some passion … no bad thing …and perhaps he feels protective of young prospects being asked to step up in a tough situation.

I hope you are right but he seems curiously disengaged in his post-match interviews.

I think this season has been so damaging, a completely fresh start is required this summer. New players, new manager, ideally a new chairman. Well, we can dream!
