Been away so I’ve had a bit of thinking time so here goes.
Brennan = Roberts, downgrade but probably the best we could have got
Roberts = Westbrooke, downgrade, journeyman
Howe = Boyce, upgrade but 2 30+ CBs not idealGone and not yet replaced:-
Scales, Brogan, Dawson, Beck, Ewing
Signed for positions well covered:-
Ogle – I like him but 5 RBs?
Hurst – Has to be better than we’ve seen otherwise underwhelming.
Barrows – how will he make the bench?
I’ll anticipate the “we have defenders who can play in more than one position”
That’s OK for subs but I want FBs at FB and CBs at CB.
“Denton can play in MF”, so can I but I wouldn’t advise it.So far, IMO, the squad is significantly weaker, work to do Andy, don’t let us down.

June 27, 2026 at 5:28 pm #322408pretty much agree with that Cass .. (slight typo should be Richards = Westbrooke)
So far signings are at best just okay and Roberts will be a huge miss .. as it stands weaker than last season. … IMO will only see another 1 or 2 signings max

June 27, 2026 at 6:28 pm #322409Good summary Cass and pretty much agree. Hopefully Richards can match Westbrookes contribution which dropped off significantly towards the end of the season.
That still leaves a Ewing sized hole in the midfield where I think we were always 1 short last season anyway.
Only Beestin could replace the favoured 3 without a serious drop in quality. Also most of our forwards are left wing shaped. We could really do with a centre forward shaped player with a bit of pace and genuine physicality which let’s face it neither Whitehall or Howe the younger have at their disposal. The lad fom Barnsley hopefully would do.Denton is not and never will be a midfielder. In fact his only weakness as a full back is how poor he is going forward. Bit like his returning Soccaroo mate on the other side. Rose managing 1 game last season as a defensive midfielder doesn’t make him a poor man’s Declan Rice either.
Is it too much to hope Smith when finally fit might actually make a quality midfielder? On what we saw last season he isn’t going to make better than 4th reserve left winger.
June 28, 2026 at 6:07 am #322424Denton was excellent going forward and defending in NLN.
I really think that he should look as good at this level. IMHO, there is a better player in there than the one we saw last season.
Anything to do with that injury, I wonder?June 28, 2026 at 11:19 am #322425I’m pretty confident we’ll do well
June 28, 2026 at 11:40 am #322428Other than signing Jude Bellingham or Messi anyone was going to be a downgrade on Roberts. So that was a bullet we knew we had to bite.
Not too worried about the other signings and there will be the inevitable trialists and loans.
Worst comes to the worst put an ad on social media, “Anyone fancy a game of football on Saturday? Contact Andy on 01724 6…….”!
June 30, 2026 at 12:00 am #322489Sadly Cass, I haven’t paid the £60 for exclusive transfer news so won’t know who we have signed until the first game.

Some of our fans may not have any money to spare ! If you haven’t then you are now not so important according to the PR mastermind who has come up with this !
Quite frankly I am disgusted at what they have done.
June 30, 2026 at 12:09 pm #322497I aren’t I like the clear division between fans and the club.
June 30, 2026 at 12:13 pm #322498Butterfield rumours gathering pace
June 30, 2026 at 12:35 pm #322501@RadioHumberside understands ex-#Iron midfielder Jacob Butterfield is set to return to @SUFCOfficial as a player-coach.
June 30, 2026 at 12:48 pm #322502Are we a repository for ageing players?
Do we NEED a player coach?June 30, 2026 at 1:20 pm #322503Will we be looking for new players when Scunny legends play Man U legends 😀
June 30, 2026 at 1:41 pm #322504I don’t understand this appointment at all given how he wasn’t in Butler’s plans before and what happened after he left. Do I have to pay £6 a month to find out what the rationale is for this decision?

June 30, 2026 at 2:23 pm #322506Howe – definite upgrade on Boyce.
Ogle – definite upgrade on any other right back on the books.
Brennan – presumably a Roberts replacement but is 100% a left winger.
Richards – no idea of what he’s like vs Westbrooke, can’t really remember him from our games vs Boston.
Hurst – probably the Roberts replacement as he can play right wing, definite downgrade but then who wouldn’t be!
Butterfield – we’ve been crying out for a goal threat and bit of creativity from midfield so he gets a thumbs up from me if he returns…we know what he can deliver. Only needs 3 goals to output more than Ewing did!2 users thanked author for this post.
June 30, 2026 at 3:15 pm #322507Can’t argue with any of that, but somehow it all seems second rate.
Let’s keep in mind that both Ogle and Butterfield were here the season we didn’t get promoted from NLN.
Just feels like Bungler, sorry Butler signing what/who he knows.
I bet he’s a “two scoops vanilla, no flake, no sprinkles” guy.June 30, 2026 at 3:24 pm #322508Do we NEED a player coach?
If he can convince the players of the advantages of being 2 footed and coach accordingly then he’ll be worth the money. Still plenty to offer as a player I reckon, but maybe not many 90 minute games.

June 30, 2026 at 4:09 pm #322509Surely Butler must have a rethink on Billy Sharpe if only for the money they can save on the legend’s team alone.
