Been away so I’ve had a bit of thinking time so here goes.
Brennan = Roberts, downgrade but probably the best we could have got
    Roberts = Westbrooke, downgrade, journeyman
Howe = Boyce, upgrade but 2 30+ CBs not ideal

    Gone and not yet replaced:-
    Scales, Brogan, Dawson, Beck, Ewing
    Signed for positions well covered:-
Ogle – I like him but 5 RBs?
Hurst – Has to be better than we’ve seen otherwise underwhelming.
Barrows – how will he make the bench?
I’ll anticipate the “we have defenders who can play in more than one position”
That’s OK for subs but I want FBs at FB and CBs at CB.
“Denton can play in MF”, so can I but I wouldn’t advise it.

So far, IMO, the squad is significantly weaker, work to do Andy, don’t let us down.

pretty much agree with that Cass .. (slight typo should be Richards = Westbrooke)

So far signings are at best just okay and Roberts will be a huge miss .. as it stands weaker than last season. … IMO will only see another 1 or 2 signings max

Good summary Cass and pretty much agree. Hopefully Richards can match Westbrookes contribution which dropped off significantly towards the end of the season.
That still leaves a Ewing sized hole in the midfield where I think we were always 1 short last season anyway.
Only Beestin could replace the favoured 3 without a serious drop in quality. Also most of our forwards are left wing shaped. We could really do with a centre forward shaped player with a bit of pace and genuine physicality which let’s face it neither Whitehall or Howe the younger have at their disposal. The lad fom Barnsley hopefully would do.

Denton is not and never will be a midfielder. In fact his only weakness as a full back is how poor he is going forward. Bit like his returning Soccaroo mate on the other side. Rose managing 1 game last season as a defensive midfielder doesn’t make him a poor man’s Declan Rice either.

Is it too much to hope Smith when finally fit might actually make a quality midfielder? On what we saw last season he isn’t going to make better than 4th reserve left winger.
