Personally, and this is probably an unpopular opinion, I’ve never understood what the fuss has been about over him. He’s terribly slow on the turn going back towards his own goal and got caught out multiple times last season. Always seems to take too long on the ball and either gets caught in possession or immediately looks to go backwards. He has a decent set piece delivery but that’s about it.

Thompson seems the better option going on the 3 games I’ve watched this season. Was surprised he didn’t start last night given he was probably my MOTM vs Rochdale.

That’s a scary looking starting 11 and an even scarier looking bench. Surely we’re busting a gut to bring players in…surely!? Why did we give Hallam a contract?? Unbelievable.

Not really rocket science is it, if Cox thinks he’ll do more damage to the team by being on the pitch than off of it then he’s not going to play him.

Has the stadium gone fully cashless though? I paid for a coffee and mediocre pasty with cash in the Cluggy stand vs Swindon.

Agree with Les on Kenyon, he’s either massively unfit or just a terrible footballer. So, so slow…can barely get within 5 yards of an opponent!

O’Malley has a better all round game

Disagree, Thompson looks decent and is a heck of a lot quicker. O’Malley really struggles with pacey wingers.

Decent enough point, better second half. In desperate need for that striker to show up!

I never like to jinx prior to the match but that team looks weaker than most NL teams.

Why not play a RB? Why not play O’malley.

Because Pugh played better there than Rowe throughout pre-season? Because Thompson is deemed better than him?

BS – jeez, chill your panties and just admit you were wrong. The last 24 league games plus 1 cup game vs Barrow yielded 6 wins…not the 2 you originally stated. Just merely stating facts.

Sorry I was incorrect mate, it should have been 2 wins in 21 matches, and not 25. But either way, it is reallypathetic isn’t it, probably the one win in 18 matches is even worse.

Yep it’s an absolutely pathetic record! Rochdale already feels like a bit of a must win game…I don’t buy into the “give him 10 games” malarkey, we’re already making the exact same mistakes as last season.

You seriously need to get a new source of info BS – in the last 25 competitive games we’ve won 6, drew 7 and lost 12. Still a terrible record but stop making shit up ffs…AND SAYING IT IN CAPITALS DOESN’T MAKE IT ANY LESS OF A LIE!

We also beat Carlisle 1-0 at home in our third league game of the season. Think you need to throw your information in the bin, you’re making yourself look a little stupid.

BS…we most definitely DID NOT lose our first eight matches last season, not sure where you’ve got that one from!

If Alex Kenyon is our “Bish” replacement then God help us. The most immobile and ineffective midfielder I’ve seen in a long time!

Very disillusioned with everything that’s been going on the past few years but I’m a glutton for punishment so will be making the 420 mile round trip tomorrow…and actually looking forward to it. I’m sure I’ll be regretting the decision when we’re 2-0 down within 30 minutes.

I’d probably go for the exact same lineup as NI. You could easily swap Pugh, Thompson, Kenyon and O’Neill for Rowe, O’Malley, Perry and Hallam and I’d still be happy. Given the latter four all played against Grantham though it’ll likely be much closer to NI’s lineup.

Don’t think he’s going to come out and say “our current lot are crap, so he’ll walk straight into the starting 11.” But I agree, we should only be signing better than what we’ve already got.

Alex Perry now signed on a two-year deal (again I don’t understand this as I thought the transfer embargo restricted us to giving one-year deals).

Squad’s starting to take a much better shape, just need that striker who knows where the back of the net is and a winger to ensure Hippolyte is nowhere near the starting 11!

Hopefully means he’s being shipped out with an actual footballer being brought in as his replacement!

Jake Eastwood with almost zero league experience didn’t do too badly for us, so let’s give him a chance. Anyone to help keep Watson away from the starting lineup is a plus in my eyes!

We also need to get 6 or so out on loan. With no U23s some of the youngsters will struggle to get game time and at least one of the more senior players is unlikely to get anywhere near match day.

Don’t be silly, we’re bound to have the standard 5 or so injuries by the time the season starts!

Guessing it’s Hallam, Millen, Hippolyte, Jarvis and Turan that are the 5 still isolating. None of them in the squad again today.

That would make sense, only O’Neill has made an appearance for Boro in the Championship.

I know how it works. Everything written in the press regarding the embargo suggested we could still assemble a competitive squad of up to 23 professionals who have played at least one league game…as long as they were loans or free agent transfers signed on ONE YEAR DEALS. Clearly not the case if we’ve signed Millen and O’Neill on two year deals.

How are we signing players on two year deals? That’s Millen and O’Neill now. I was under the impression the transfer embargo restricted us to signing free agents on one year deals only?

I’m assuming Thompson doesn’t count towards the 23 as he’s never played a professional game (unless NI u-21 games count)?

It seemed last year judgements were based on agent recommendations and you tube clips.

The scary thing is that Turan DID come here on trial and played in a pre-season game under the watchful eye of Mr. Cox. He chose Hippolyte too.

Because he quite literally said we’ve had a couple in on trial who weren’t right for him and so sent them packing.

Scary times ahead looking at the current squad list above. Think you need to add Jessop, Pugh and Collins (did he play in the tin pot trophy??) to that list. That’s 18 “pros”, leaving room for 5 signings. If the trialists Bunn and the LB sign that’s only 3 spots left!

In my opinion we’d then still require a decent GK, CM, winger and two strikers to be in with any chance of being competitive.

Just means we’re in dire need of another CM (along with a GK, LB, 2 wingers and 2 strikers as a bare minimum).

It really is a bit of a shit show. A few injuries to what’s left of senior players and we’ll be down to fielding the youth team already (and look what happened with having a plethora of injuries at the start of last season!).

Looking at the current free agents still available, there really isn’t much to choose from. Putting a competitive squad together is already very unlikely, the bargain basket is all that’s left!
