Matt and Maw. Small beans in a hill of beans. Looks to me like the only person who really needs to explain himself is Maximum Bell.

I’ll clarify: I don’t have an opinion either way until hard facts appear (or not).

I believe Matt’s Twitter post (X) was, at the least, extremely unwise. But, increasingly, as things unfold in what seem to be very slightly weird or eyebrow-raising ways (the away travel subsidy, the Unity group etc), thoughts begin to nag… I wonder, is this one of those situations where the surface has been scratched a little bit, leaving just enough space for the shit to seep out?

Should have just put a microphone in the changing room post match.

Probably would have learned more from that.

Judging by the performance, perhaps not.

Bemused that this whole ‘terrible interview’ thing was mentioned on BBC Radio Humberside’s breakfast show this morning during the news. Listeners invited to ring or text in to Kofi Smiles to have their say on Andy Butler’s interview! Has the world gone completely mad?

you don’t need a ticket office it can all be done on line nowadays

It can be, like with most things now in the digital domain.

    Doesn’t mean it should be.

Regarding P/T – I think Scales signed for 25/26, Beck signed for 25/26 and there might be others. How practical would it be to have a mix of F/T and P/T in the squad?

It may be that the club has projected that it’s able to sustain another year of F/T – and the whole ‘we HAVE to get promoted’ is actually more to do with the manager’s position? Do or die.

Anyone think the Bored (sic) may just let the clock tick down and see where we are at the end of the season?

The board’s aim (as stated by Michelle) is promotion. You don’t get promoted in December. So surely the aim indicates waiting until the very end of the season when promotion has been achieved – or not?

If that’s not a joke, it ought to be.

Everything you’ve mentioned is a joke: The Facebook page, those comments and the players.

To be fair Michelle’s story about Butler’s contract doesn’t really add up, surely if the chairman offers you the managers job you don’t just take it without one especially as it was during close season when he would have looked for something else without that certainty.

Nice story all the same and got her off the hook when everyone one was in dismay, whether true or not.

I’d imagine, as he was already employed and presumably had some sort of employment contract, and presumably as they all trust each other, he was appointed as team manager and they all just carried on working until they got round to sorting a new ‘manager’ one out.

Or, if not that, then perhaps it was all in the hands of solicitors or agents or some other kind of rep, and back and forth over fine details.

It’s an entertainment business. 5-4 wins will retain or grow the fanbase, 0-0 and 1-0 hoofball will see the crowds tumble.

There’s definitely some truth in this… Kevin Keegan’s Newcastle or George Graham’s Arsenal.

Any appointment is a gamble NI. None have been a success since Alexander. And, any squad missing pivotal players like a Roberts would struggle.

It requires a talismanic leader, and that’s not Butler.

That’s not to say he couldn’t do ‘quite well’ if all the planets aligned and luck was on his side.

At the start of the season most teams hadn’t worked out how to play against us. After a few weeks and a few injuries to key players, the opposition have managed to find ways to put the team under pressure and we are seeing in real time, the players switching to type.

    23/24 all over again.

Butler is an inexperienced manager who may be leaning heavily into Schofield, it makes me wonder how much this is down to Schofield.

This could be a far more significant explanation than most realise, for how crap things have been.

Last season Whitehall looked like he could be a real asset, shithousery and all. This season his attitude and performances seem to have dropped off a cliff and (a couple of goals aside) I haven’t seen him do much of use or ‘play with a smile on his face’ in months. Most recently he’s looked like he’s doing little more than playing his contract out.

Butler losing the support of the fans doesn’t particularly bother me. It’s losing the support of the players that’s a concern.

    If that’s true of course.

It looked true on Saturday. There was a moment in the second half when the players were all called over to him (must have been an injury to an Alfreton player and a break in play, can’t quite remember). Butler held forth, offering comments and instructions, not one of them looked like they were listening.

On the face of it the bun does seem a bit useless. Handy for mopping up the sauce perhaps.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the idea behind it is to make it instagramable/social media ready.

Looking at it there, I don’t think there’s any idea behind it.

We keep hearing that “we have the players” but the evidence from so many matches and last season suggests the opposite.

One look at the goalscorer stats doesn’t give me any confidence that these players are above the standard of the rest of the league, apart from Roberts none of them are on target for 20 goals and the midfielders will not even get 5.

Not the stats for a promotion winning or above standard team, whatever the tactics.

The two new signings have not significantly improved things, either.

Time for the police to act and lock them up for these cover ups.

I think you’ll find the police act FOR the establishment, and seldom act against it.

    NO.

This is really quite narrow-minded of you. There is possibly a degree of truth in it. If over the last six weeks they’ve been trained to incorporate the strengths (plus quirks) of this new player, and then he’s not there on an actual match day… it would require a bit of mental adjustment.

    Quit the Narrow minding!
    A degree. You’ve got half a degree.
    That’s my view No.

Can you truly say we’ve played well all season bar the coincidental last 6 weeks.
And you think we’ve been trying to shoehorn Messi into this shower.

    Gimme a break.

Remember the times it’s been stated can’t wait for the shackles to come off? Think the leaded divers boots have been donned.

I haven’t said we’ve played well before the last six weeks. But the last few games have been remarkably bad, things have dropped off a cliff. There is a reason, or fatal combination of reasons, and I was adding one in to the pot of possibilities.

Could the fact that a striker who we believe is being brought in to address a dip in form be partly responsible for the dip in form? He’s been training with us for six weeks – about the length of time we’ve been explicitly shite.

Is it possible that training has in some way revolved around integrating him into the team and fitting him in to the system – and, therefore, when he’s absent for actual league games there’s now ‘something important missing’ for the other players… And so it falls apart?

just because his contract was terminated it doesn’t mean he was booted out, he may have been or it might mean he has a new job and that is why we got a new CEO, I actually have no idea, but strange they bring a new CEO in before terminating his contract

The wording would have been “contract terminated by mutual consent”. He’s clearly been kicked out. The statement’s sign off of ‘the door is always open for him to visit us at any point’ is the same wording used about Simon Elliott. It’s a polite way of saying ‘Get lost but don’t be bitter, football’s a harsh and sometimes nasty business and these things happen’…
