If you were a new manager coming into Scunthorpe Utd today, what changes would you make from day one to try and turn this ship around?

Baring in mind the limited funds available, so wholesale changes are out of the question.

Personally, mine would be the following:

1. Choose a system and stick to it. Forget this constant worrying about the opposition, let’s find our own identify as a team and let other teams worry about us, not vice versa.
2. Stop this us v them mentality with the fan base – it never ends well.
3. Have some serious conversations with our senior players, as it’s obvious their head, heart isn’t in it at present.

Ideally, I’d seriously be looking at shuffling the deck and getting under performing individuals out and loan, and bringing some new blood in – easier said than done I know…

For the record, I don’t think we will (or can) shift Butler on and the squad seems to be what it is on this basis.

I personally want him to succeed as if he does then so does my club, but I can’t see any evidence of things improving any time soon.

1. Get Positivity Dave in the dressing room with some wrist band action and cool vibes.

2. Recruit wondergoals to deliver the first training morning speech, letting certain players know if they are dog shit and going out on loan.

3. Organise a run to Grimsby and back.

I think Campbell is showing definite signs of improvement, he’s not there yet clearly and possibly never will be with Mussy’s coaching. Learning from an experienced keeper would benefit both him and, maybe next season, the club.

From the OP number 1 is what (almost) everybody sees.

I was tempted to include a new keeper in my initial list, with the thoughts of sending Jones out on loan and Campbell being No.2.

However, I’m unsure whether this falls into the bracket of being out of the question in terms of finances.

Fitzsimons would have been ideal and I genuinely believe his sharpness for distribution would solve a lot of our slow tempo problems.
