Scunthorpe United’s Longest-Serving Player Pens New Two-Year Deal and Vows to Complete EFL ‘Mission’

Scunthorpe United have secured the services of another key man, with longest-serving player Alfie Beestin committing his future to the club by signing a new two-year deal.

The midfielder, who was an instrumental part of the side that achieved promotion from the National League North, has been rewarded for a stellar season in which he registered his best-ever goal-scoring return.

The new contract will see him extend his stay at the club to a remarkable seven years, and he has made his intentions clear: to get the Iron back to where they belong.

“It was the only thing on my mind”

Beestin revealed that talks were straightforward and his desire was always to remain a Scunthorpe United player.

“I’m just buzzing to get it over the line now,” Beestin told the club’s official website.

“It’s been a great season, obviously with promotion. So, it was the only thing on my mind, staying with this club. Like I’ve said all along since I’ve been here, I want to get this club back to where it belongs, and that’s the EFL.”

A Personal Mission to Right the Wrongs

Having been with the club through its most difficult period, which saw a painful double relegation, Beestin admits he feels a personal responsibility to help drive Scunthorpe back up the football pyramid.

“I was here when the club went down two leagues,” he stated. “So I feel like it’s a big thing that I believe I want to try and help this club get back to where it belongs.”

This dedication and passion have made him a firm fan favourite over his five years at the club, a bond he clearly cherishes.

“To stay at a club for that long, especially a club this size, is a massive achievement for me,” Beestin added. “I’ve just loved every minute – the players, the fans, the staff, everything about this club, I love.”

Building on a Career-Best Season

After his most productive season in front of goal, the 26-year-old isn’t resting on his laurels. He’s already targeting an even better campaign as the Iron prepare for life back in the National League.

“Just be better than I was this season,” he said when asked about his targets. “Obviously I’ve had a good season, but yeah, try to get more goals, more assists, and hopefully another promotion, wouldn’t mind that.”

The midfielder’s versatility was on full display last season, but he admitted he thrives in a more advanced role. “I like that ten position, or if we’re playing a two up front, I’ll normally drop a bit deeper and get on it. But anywhere in and around that front area, I’m more than happy to play.”

Securing a player with Beestin’s experience, quality, and undeniable passion for the club on a long-term deal is a major coup for Scunthorpe United as they look to build on their promotion success.
