Iron Bru understand Scunthorpe United are monitoring the contractual situation of Port Vale striker Tom Pope and could make a move for the veteran front man this January.
It is understood the Iron are long term admirers of the 6ft 3″ target man and were interested in securing his signature in the summer, however a move never materialised.
Pope began his professional career at Crewe Alexandra and was on the books at Gresty Road with Iron boss Neil Cox.
The 35 year old is out of contract at Vale Park in June and has not featured as a regular starter under John Askey, despite being a high earner and having netted three times in 11 appearances this term.
