I know this isn’t great but I remember a few season back Hornshaw playing as a defensive midfielder against Notts County in a crappy cup game at home and got man of the match, he looked really good in there but never had a shot in there since.

Hornshaw and Pugh are at least options and should be used more. Especially when Beestin and Spence are running on empty during games.

Beestin is cream crackered. Gillead looks like he’s running fumes, he needs resting for a match for Green in my opinion.

I think Pugh looks a handy player with the bit’s I’ve seen and is capable, big lightweight but got decent energy and can at least accurately pass a ball.

    Those two need resting.

I was contemplating whether Eisa needed a rest but I came to the swift conclusion that he properly needs a slap or a kick up the backside.

When Brown is back, I’d be tempted to stick O’Malley on the wing and leave Eisa out. Hippolyte doesn’t really even count as a player so he can bench warm.

He didn’t literally say those words no but the meaning was pretty obvious. Listen to it if you like that’s better than me trying to explain it but it certainly didn’t sound like angling for a better deal.

He said he wasn’t looking to leave in Jan as he didn’t want to be perceived a disloyal and wanted to “help the team till the end of the season”

He very much sounded like he didn’t want to be here any longer than he had to be.

You’re right…said in so many words that he’s off come the end of the season. I didn’t catch the interview but when it said on the radio that we were close with two of the younger players, I assumed one was Eisa because I caught the tail end of it.

The two youngsters must be Rowe and O’Malley then that we’re trying to tie down.

I’d stick him up for sale in January in a bid to get something for him….he’s probably already gone in his own mind anyway.

Maybe make it a 2 for 1 deal and throw Hippolyte in as well ?

All they’ve been doing is showing Eisa on the outside and see as he’s largely a one trick pony and keeps cutting inside..they have that space covered.

Eisa would only have to run full pelt around his fullback on the outside to bypass them but never does.

Playing him upfront on his own doesn’t help. I’d stick Green up there with him, McAtee is capable on his day but he’ll naturally drop deep as he’s more a no 10/attacking midfielder.

Turan, Jarvis are dog mess. Olomola’s crocked with Kev and Mooney wasn’t deemed good enough from day one so only really leaves Green as our only viable option.

Post match interview Cox was going on about playing 4/3/3 again to combat our frailties going forward..even though that will leave Loft even more isolated.

Oh and the fact it didn’t work last time he tried it.

Cox at times defies logic. O’Malley was on the bench, yet starts with Hippolyte, who happens to be a crap LW player who’s playing out of position.

    Very, Very… strange.

other than telling the players it’s a local derby it would just seem like a normal game to them

If they had any ounce of pride and battling qualities about them, telling them should be enough. They didn’t really appear to give a crap…worst performance in some time.

Shocking against a crap Grimsby side.

All 3 loan players need sending back.

Hallam can go as we have McAtee and Van Veen who plays there.

Butroid needs letting go as we have brown and O’Malley.

Those strikers mentioned need shifting and Hippolyte needs flogging for a small fee back to the conference.

Turan, Jarvis and Hippolyte will be hardest to shift as they’re on 2yr contracts.

Olomola, Butroid and Hallam may be fairly easy to shift as their contracts are coming to an end.

As a matter of urgency we need at least 2 strikers and 2 CM players.

Also another left winger is really important because while Eisa is talented he’s equally as slack at times…he strikes me as a player who can’t be guaranteed a first team place otherwise he’ll become too comfortable and at times do the bare minimum.

If Eisa signs the new deal that’s been offered and somebody comes in a with a decent fee, I’d be tempted to take it if we have some one good enough already lined up.

As long as another Hippolyte doesn’t end up here to replace him.

Loft is a bit like Cordner in that they’re ” big units ” but when they scrap it out and they get overpowered a few times, neither of them want to know.

Loft would be ok with a partner with him but not as a lone striker..if he was more like Torpey then maybe but not this version of Loft.

Tactically he’s dire and makes countless strange decisions.

Loft couldn’t hold it up, why didn’t he go 4/3/3 and try and get it down the sides of Grimsby ?. Cox could have gone 4/3/3 and brought Green on for Gillead and could have brought O’Malley on to play LW.

What did he do ?. Took McAtee off and stuck Jarvis on who we all know couldn’t even finish his dinner.

I don’t get him at times.

Reality is we need to offload Olomola, Turan, Jarvis and release/flog Mooney…we need 3 new strikers.

Loft has reverted back to type. We have absolutely nothing going forward.

Going on today’s lack of performance, why didn’t Cox bring on Green and stick him up there with Loft?. I don’t know why he keeps sticking Jarvis up there.

Don’t even get me started why he chose Hippolyte over O’Malley…a shite LW at LB, instead of playing a really talented youngster who’s a natural player in that position.

Hippolyte’s another that needs moving on.

Eisa needs to get a grip as well, he’s been shocking of late.

I don’t think Cox is up to it long term either, we shall see. Cox signed Hippolyte stating he as a good player….not sure who he thought he was watching.

Come January we need 3 strikers, a LW, a CM and possibly another CB because it’s evident we really miss Mcgahey. Bedeau isn’t up to it and Cordner’s dog mess.

Worse performance today in a fair old while, putting it that performance is shocking in a supposed local derby. Grimsby were crap themselves.

We have to adapt, occasionally giving the opposition something to think about.

We did that V’s Bolton when we completely changed to a formation we all knew didn’t work just to combat them…when in reality Cox messed it up.

In modern day football,I agree you have to adapt but with us…we only seem to play well in a 4/4/2…always been the same.

Keeping it simple seems to suit us. Everybody know’s what they’re doing and we play with more freedom.

How many times have we tried that daft formation Cox tried to play and those daft diamond formations ?

    They just didn’t work.

I hope he’s realised 4/4/2 is the way….he tried to change it all up against Bolton and fecked up. As long as he keeps it 4/4/2 and plays the right players, he’ll be fine.

loft is getting himself in there now to score and we#re starting to get more players forward now in and around the box.

I’m optimistic. I just hope to god nothing happens to Beestin or Spence.

Really good performance today. Beestin,O’Malley and Manny all stood out.

It really is imperative we sign Beestin to a longer deal, his contract runs out end of this season and there will be teams there waiting for him.

One of the best midfielders we’ve had in quite some time. Spence is no slouch but Beestin looks to have a bit of everything, he’s a very good at every aspect of central midfield play.

Loft is looking the part now. I may have to eat my words if he keeps going…which I won’t at all mind as long as he’s doing well.

O’Malley needs tying down to a longer contract…he reminds me a bit of Townsend. O ‘Malley I think may become better than him though.

    Top talent.

Good performance against a poor non league team

They must be doing something right, they’re not badly placed in the table..granted they were poor last night. Harrogate had defensive injuries which crippled them.

I know we’ve had a dodgy start but when everybody’s fit and firing we have a top 6 side .Playing like that last night with Gillead and Eisa running riot, we probably would have beaten most league two teams.

This is why we shouldn’t be giving teams like Bolton too much respect.

It’s imperative we keep Beestin. If Swann messes around and we miss out on Beestin because of his stupid stance on contracts I’d be absolutely fuming.

Beestin is consistently one of the best players,we should be building the team around him for the coming seasons….not letting somebody else profit.

I really like Spence but I think Beestin is the better of the two for me…really needs to be kept.

Either Cox deserves an oscar or he is genuinely pleased about Will’s appointment.

I’ll go for the oscar option…and the fact he doesn’t want to get himself sacked.

So, he get’s rid of Turnbull and then ends up signing his son ?

Only st Scunthorpe United eh ?

If Spence only got a years contract when he signed that needs sorting ASAP.

Spence got 2 years. It’s Beestin who’s contract is running out. In my opinion he needs to be signed on a longer deal, there will definitely be teams waiting to snaffle him up.

Beestin is quality, as is Spence.

O’malley played better than Brown has done and Loft to be fair to him played really well. I was really unsure on him but looks to be improving.

McAtee looked really good, as did Eisa and Gillead.

4/4/2 as said many times before is the only formation that we need to be playing…we’re more comfortable than in any other.

    reflects our racist, sexist society

John Terry was England captain at the time and was deemed as a player we couldn’t lose. No doubt he should have been severely disciplined but obviously wasn’t.

I’d be careful with the whole “racist society”. Look, there are a small percentage of ignorant imbeciles who unfortunately have our skin colour but let’s not forget, they are just that, a small percentage.

Every race in the world have their undesirables..it’s an imperfect world we live in. The other race groups undesirables behaviour may not go down the racist route but it will manifest it’s self in other ways.

I don’t really buy into this whole “racist society” angle the news seems to favour. I refuse to let a small percentage of ignorant “wrong uns” tar the vast majority.

I’d stick McAtee up top with Loft but Cox would probably pass out to do excessive positivity.

I’d go Butroid at LB. O’Malley will turn out the better of the two but I’d go for Butroid because he has that bit more experience.

    I found this.

    https://fmtransferupdate.com/staff/29187952-will-swann

36yr old and is getting paid pittance. I couldn’t find anything else out about him. I tried looking on omnisports website under the client list and couldn’t find out anything on there.

    Bit of a mystery.

Should Swanny get more involved in the footballer of the club?

This had potential for a really fun thread until the talk of frequent urinating hijacked it.

Other than donning the strip and playing himself, could he be possible be any more involved ?

It’s ok you saying that Cliffster but we have a manager now who appears to have zero tactical nous and not one jot of positivity in him.

Cox approach to games is really depressing.

It’s one thing to not have options but to have options and willingly go back to a formation which didn’t work before is another thing entirely.

I won’t call for his head but I can’t see it working out with him. I personally don’t think he’s a good enough manager.

    We shall see !

There’s been many things to blame….players injured, no experience e.t.c

Tonight though was purely Cox’s fault…changed the formation, to a formation which didn’t work last time.

According the Cox he changed because Bolton have a lot of the ball at the back so wanted our front 3 to go up against their back 3.

The one big problem is, is that if your playing a formation which severely isolates your striker and the ball keeps coming back, what advantage are you gaining ?

Any manager with any ounce of tactical nous would have seen the problem, especially early in the second half and changed it…plain as day a goal was coming.

I was screaming 4/3/1/2 to match their 3 in midfield and at least offer some kind of threat with 2 strikers upfront and 1 in behind to get on the ball but nothing really happened.

Even when he made changes they didn’t really add up.

Going by this evidence, it’s crystal clear Cox’s isn’t/wont be good enough.

Eisa is pissing me off as well….does he not realise that if he keeps coming inside and getting no joy that it’s best to try a different approach ?

Somebody needs to read him the riot act and drum it into his head to actually attack on the outside of his man.

If he can’t alter his game to compensate the changes needed, I’d be tempted to move him on…get some money for him and get somebody in who actually does both.

Eisa seemingly has 1 way of playing, as he’s easily shackled now.

I do however look at Hippolyte and wonder if we’re even capable of spotting a good winger.

All the progress we made as well and Cox goes and does that.

Kev is out so Olomola upfront with Loft in my opinion. I suspect knowing Cox he will go with Loft and Hallam or McAtee in the no 10 role.

I’d personally like to see how Olomola and Loft work together.

I can’t say i’m Lofts biggest fan but he might come good…he’s another that won’t be 100% match fit either.

Hopefully another goal may spark him off. To be fair to him when Kev’s on the pitch he creates room for him to work so in that sense he does a decent job.

I don’t think Loft has played that many consecutive league games either so it’s understandable that he’s a bit rough around the edges.

I do think we need another striker though in January. Cox doesn’t see to rate Olomola. Turan’s substandard.

Loft could get a bit of a rest if needed if Jarvis was fit to come on as sub…pity he’s injured.

I think Beestin looks a really good player..he’s got a much more well rounded game than Spence. Spence is really good at the ugly side but Beestin is also good in being a spoiler but he’s got a pretty good range of passing to his game.

Going from worrying about the CM to having Spence and Beestin in there is miles better. I think they work really well in there.

Beestin and Spence wont be 100% match fit yet either.

Upfront worries me though. Loft does his bit but without Kev we really do struggle to create anything. Their RB today pretty much dominated Eisa which didn’t help the struggle in creating chances.

Eisa, instead of cutting inside all the time needs to go around the outside of his FB, he has the pace but never usually does it.

To be fair to Morecambe though you can tell why they have the best away record in lg 2, really solid but have a few decent players in their team as well.

Shame we couldn’t hold out but 7 from 9 points is pretty impressive and things are coming together now.

Cox said Kev was suffering with Sciatica so hope that settles down…he was brought off as a precaution so fingers crossed he should be alright for Tuesday night.
