VAR probably would work providing you didn’t have clueless morons using it. Thing is with referees in this country is that they all interpret the laws within officiating differently so on any given day you’re always going to different decisions with very little consistency.
I’d rather they all didn’t go rogue and just all strictly followed refereeing guidelines, least then you’d have consistent decisions.
I just wish they went back to how it was. As somebody said above, keep it for goal line technology. Get the refs to all follow the same guidelines, ditch the shitty offside 1st and second phase bullshit where they blow up about a minute after it’s obvious they’re offside.
They’ve over complicated football for the sake of it and somewhat ruined it.

I’ve only seen him as Left back and briefly as CDM. Not sure where else he can play as he doesn’t seem to have the pace or the skill to play higher up? A decent cross is all well and good but a competent right back when you have neither of these attributes won’t let you deliver crosses.
When we got relegated last year he was one of the few players I thought an EFL might snap up as he didn’t look out of place. This year, however, he just seems to have lost his way and been at fault for a number of goals.
In all honesty, he is one of number of players like Rowe, Hallam, Taft whom have only ever been used to losing whilst here. A new opportunity is probably best for all parties.
I’ve said for years he’s a left winger playing LB. Good energy, Good pace and has good delivery into the box and yet his marking is slack and positionally at times he’s all over the place.
I honestly can’t think why coaching staff /management haven’t spotted this and played him further up.
How many of us have said over the years that is delivery into the box is spot on, he likes to get forward but can’t really defend ?
As I said above, it’s mystery why nobody within the club haven’t see what a majority of us have.
Or in Hallam’s case twenty minutes!
Harsh! He can’t help being injured.
Still doesn’t change the fact he’s always injured though, does it ?
competent
I did include the word ” competent ” when I suggested that we sign a CB with pace. We don’t need players who can simply play there, we need a natural CB who’s good and solid.
Perfect signing, just what we needed. All we need now is a competent CB with pace to replace Taft and we’ll be a lot better.
Maybe sign players from a lower league level on perm contract beyond this season who maybe won’t be too bothered at the possibility of dropping back down to that level and maybe sign ex league players on a contract until end of season who may not want to play lower than national league.
Strikers HAVE to be on that list
It’s a certainty. Also with Dean trying to bring their best CB here, he obviously see’s that needs bolstering as well. Boyce is solid but Taft makes me nervous at times. Boyce needs a more fleet footed CB next to him as with him and Taft there’s no pace there whatsoever.
Strikers are an absolute must though.
I never thought I’d say this but I agree with bucks. Club has gone from near extinction to now having a lot put in place already. HMRC settled and the transfer embargo lifted is one example of this.
I don’t know why certain posters would moan as much as they have when we’ve gone from where we were to where we are now. As Bucks states above, plenty could go wrong in the future but to say what Hilton’s achieved in a little under a week is remarkable really, it’s the here and now people should be focussing on.

Dean will know we need strikers. All we have are young Fleming and Poulter who are natural strikers. Carver is injured but he’s shite anyway. Wilson can do a job up there but you can tell he’s not a proper striker.
I’d be surprised if at least 2 strikers don’t come in. Hilton said he’s looking to bring in a number of players and that he’ll give it a good go to stay up. Only a complete inept psychopath will come to a club with no natural strikers and not want to sign any.
Ferris is an attack minded out and out winger. Dean likes to play with 2 wingers and width so expect to see Wilson on the other side.
Roj was supposed to be funding one but nothings obviously been done. Whatever is happening, it’s taking ages.
Hilton did mention in that interview that he would be looking into sponsorship e.t.c so he’ll have a scout about and fix something up for stadium naming rights.
British Steel would make sense. I can’t think of anything else locally.
Im surprised been no sausage jokes ….YET … it is early days im sure Jimmy will make a sizzling start in Lincolnshire… i love a good sausage and Jimmy Deans are one of my favs.
i will get my coat
Seen as you love sausages you would have loved Big and little Al in charge lol
Sticks to his word. Paid up and talking to players to bring in.
Have we stumbled upon a top chairman ?

How did Youngs trial go?
They’re to pay 1.2million for him, tipped as the next Stuart Thom. The older posters will remember him, gangly god who was about 90% legs !. I remember him out of nowhere scoring an absolute screamer at home in the away end. I remember rubbing my eyes in amazement.
I thought that ended already, didn’t it ?.

Only suggesting that it would make sense involving those two as they love the club enough to want to buy it and pay the players wages for that month to stop us going bust.
The pair of them are local, have a certain amount of money and love the club. This is a football forum regarding Scunthorpe United, if you don’t like the contents of a thread,

I mentioned the other day that one of their fans on twitter said dean likes to play with a lot of width and out and out wingers. On their site it says Has made 134 appearances for the club, scoring 63 times.
Supposed to be one of the best players at that level.
Exactly my thoughts. Better to keep all the players together for now as one big group as the youngsters are very much a part of it.
Hilton getting Sharpe and Elliot on board would be common sense, wouldn’t it ?. May as well get them on board and use them in some capacity.

I think certain posters on here really need a few happy pills. Look, we were on the verge of going out on business until Hilton came in who’s bought the club, stadium and land. The loan borrowed against the ground was paid off by Swann as part of the deal as Hilton stated the other day. The tax bill is to be settled sometime tomorrow, meaning the embargo will be lifted and we’ve even been promised players to come in, which Hilton said would be a considerable amount.
A new management team in place and Nelson has even been given a proper contract. All this has been done in less than a week. I suggest instead of doom and gloom, show a bit of optimism and back the club in it’s quest to stay up until it’s mathematically impossible to do so.
Honestly some posters on this forum really need to get a grip of themselves. Some people are just never happy.
Iron-awe, Wilson as you said above he’s a really talented lad with a lot of ability but you can tell he’s not a striker because he doesn’t have that natural strikers instinct. I would imagine on the wing though he’d cause no end of problems. No doubt he’s the most talented player we’ve had through the academy in years.
I still don’t understand why Hill didn’t really give him any game time. There’s definitely a quality player in there.

Is there something really dodgy about Hilton because I’ve been reading a lot cryptic posts about him ?. I hope not !

I thought that was a bit daft. Dean and Plummer will be here regardless. I wonder if he’ll go after some of the better players at that level and bring any of his players with him ?
I’m sure he said he’s looking to bring a considerable number of players in so it’ll be interesting. Realistically we need 3 strikers. Another GK, CB, CM and possibly a few wingers.
Dean from what I’ve read likes to play with width, quick wingers and plenty of crosses in the box. That’s how he’s played at his previous club. A fan was on there earlier tweeting about him.
They have a really solid CB there at his old club who’s supposed to be one of the better one’s at that level and 2 really quick wingers who have scored a fair new.
Be a bit risky mind because I think they’re part time, aren’t they ?
Hilton did mention he had plans drawn up already which hadn’t obviously gone through planning process yet. It will be interesting to see what he has in store. I’m guessing that project will include a new training facility.

Timing wasn’t great and should have been told behind closed doors but Hilton has offered Nelson a proper contract in a more fixed position so least it gives him more security now. Nelson’s been here not even on a contract so least he’s still here in some capacity.
Let’s not hate on Hilton already. I thought it was a nice touch from Hilton in offering Nelson a proper contract and he’s keeping in contact with fans and letting us know.
Hilton from this early on is soon to have his manager and assistant in place…has offered Nelson a proper contract in a coaching role, will have cleared the HMRC tax bill and is willing to bankroll a considerable number of signings in a bid to keep us up.
Hilton’s not even been here a week yet !

Nelson been given a contract to stay on as a coach with Dean and Plummer as the management set up. Good move by Hilton as it gives Nelson some security now, he was here on non contract terms as an interim.

13. Inclusion of chunky chips. That’s a deal breaker.
I’ve said that for years. At one point in league 2 when we were relegated our staff number dwarfs this one. If Hilton thinks this one is excessive, god knows what he would have made of our past efforts.
At one point Swann employed a full time biscuit dunker !
If the land was under a different name and he didn’t own it, why did he mention building a training facility on it ?. I’m pretty sure he owns the land as well but you better confirm that with SST.
A new training facility in the offing ?
Also spoke of a number of players coming to give us a chance of staying up. I thought he came across fantastically well.
