I have an idea, why don’t people just leave what he did in the past and focus on the here and now and what he can do for us to help gain promotion.

Flynn must have something to offer as he’s been training with us for 2 weeks. They would have seen plenty of him. Let’s give him a chance. I see the usual suspects have written him off already.

I would have thought a creative wide player to help cover the loss of Smith and Roberts and would have been more important than another CM player but he’s here now so we’ll see.

We need another striker through the door A.S.A.P

Beestin has to go out on loan surely ?.

Nowhere even near match fit !

    We need a striker now.

Two in have to be a striker and a more creative wide player to cover the loss of Roberts and Smith. In a more ideal world we could do with a CM player too.

I wonder who the 3 are moving on, I just hope it isn’t Pugh after the form he’s showed at Hereford.

    Rance to be paid up
    Shrimpton out
Beestin out on loan to get game time

    Merely speculating with those suggestions.

I’d employ him as player coach but not in a managerial role. I’d want a manager who’s experienced at this level or the one lower who knows and understands this level of football.

Are there any good one’s out there who fit the bill ?

I feel sorry for Pugh who’s been called back from his loan. Pugh was in top form for Hereford, knitting the play together, getting forward and scoring some good goals and yet he’s hardly played. What makes it all the more strange is the fact he’s just what we need right now and yet doesn’t get a look in.

Beestin get’s more of a look in and he’s not even match fit. The form Pugh was in was miles above both Clunan and Scales. I honestly don’t understand it.

Dean’s going on about more players being brought in, but it’s showed he doesn’t use an inform CM player even though we’re struggling, so who’s to say he’s going to correctly utilize any more players ?

We was 2 up top most of the game- didn’t make the slightest bit of difference

We were sort of, but they weren’t playing close enough together because at times the other was dropping deep.

Taking off Whitehall when we’re chasing a goal for Beestin while then deciding the team should play hoofball to Elliot is pure insanity.

This is where most of the problems stem from, absolutely senseless management.

Anybody who knows football would have gone 2 upfront and given it a go. I honestly do not know what goes through his head at times.

Play 442 and be positive for a change we’d more than likely win but this 433 without Roberts supplying the lone frontman Whitehall, Curzon will win.

    SUFC 0 – CURZON 1

I can’t say I’m surprised as it’s all very predictable. I know Whitehall missed the header he should have really scored, but to take him off for Beestin instead of going two up top is ridiculous.

What was Dean playing at ?

CMC I guess you haven’t seen my posts the last few weeks concerning Dean, if you had read them then you wouldn’t be expecting me to back him. I predicated a 0-1 loss to Curzon and have questioned Dean’s tactics or lack thereof for quite a while.

I like him as a person, but he’s just not good enough.

A smaller squad is very possible

I don’t think so much a smaller squad, just players on more realistic wages. Evans, Kelly, Boyce and Whitehall will be on a fair wedges as they were signed from high end National League sides.

I suspect some of those will have to go. Evans and Boyce will probably end up going both out of contract and seen as Evans featured in the national league team of season for Eastleigh, he wouldn’t have come cheap.

I’m expecting Denton to be move on. Will the club want to fund both Michael Kelly and Denton ?. I suspect Kelly may be on fair wedge so Denton may move on with Kelly as 1st choice and then get a cheaper back up to him.

The amount of player budget cuts will obviously hinge on whether we go up or not.

Enough debt is to be cleared for the embargo to be lifted to enable us to hopefully sign a few players towards the end of the season. Michelle and the other staff have worked absolute wonders in clearing a large amount of the debts.

One thing is for certain, at least we’ve got a competent owner for the 1st time since Wharton. I’m surprised they’ve got through the amount of debt they have in so little time.

I understand further cuts have to be made to enable us to be sustainable, but what they’ve done up to press with the debt is outstanding. I was fully expecting it to take us a few seasons to get out of the embargo.

Well done to Michelle and the other staff.

    Outstanding effort.

Regarding the staff who have moved on.

One of our first team Physio’s has taken up a role within the NHS and we’ve replaced him with our old Physio from 2013, who’s agreed to come to the club as match day Physio until the end of season. Now we only have 1 full time physio.

The other member of staff Boden who was first team football analyst has moved to Carlisle United and we haven’t replaced him. I doubt we ever will now he’s gone.

Do you really need one at this level ?

Not what I call quality. Might as well have Bennett back!

I don’t know what you’ve been smoking, but you can’t compare him to Bennett. The thing is Whitehall needs Elliot up there to play to his best and Elliot needs Whitehall up there with him to play to his best.

Only problem is because Dean is that limited tactically he hasn’t came up with a solution to start the two together.

.Blyth were terrible by all accounts

One of the poorest teams we’ve played all season. Put it this was way, if Dean went 442 and was positive from the start we would have battered them.

They were absolute shite and first time they showed any intent with their first shot on target they scored from. They showed absolutely nothing.

The ref and linesman were absolutely shocking as were some of Deans subs. Going full on defensive even for a few minutes against a team like that, while trying to hold out for the 1 nil win is an absolute piss take.

Yes, they were really, really bad.

I tend to agree which is the sad part of it all. Upside is we’ll have Roberts and Law back but even then it’s far too negative.

Should have been out of sight before the late substitutions. But for the ref and the lack of a proper goal scorer.

Elliot has been and still is a goal scorer at this level, but has never been properly utilized. Stick Elliot upfront with Whitehall and he’d net regularly.

I find it non the least surprising that we’ve changed up to 2 upfront twice and he’s scored shortly after on both occasions. That isn’t a coincidence it just goes to prove what we’ve all said numerous times before, Elliot isn’t a wide player or lone striker.

    zero quality up front

I beg to differ. Twice we’ve gone 442 and put Elliot up top with Whitehall and he’s netted on both occasions soon after. If Elliot was used correctly with a striker partner he’d have been on a hell of a lot more goals.

Elliot is no lone striker or winger, he’s just being used incorrectly. Whitehall again would benefit from having Elliot up there because despite his size, his hold up play or heading aren’t his strong points, we all knew this already.

Any positive manager would have seen studied Blyth and compared them to our players and gone for it with 2 up top, but no Dean is Mr Conservative.

I’m telling you now, if we started with 442 nice and bright and popped the ball off to the wingers and had them get balls in the box with Elliot running in behind, there isn’t much Blyth would have been able to do about it. Blyth are poor.

That’s the title hopes gone. Play offs it is now.

Blyth were shite and there was no reason not to start with a 442 formation from the off. Twice now we’ve switched to two strikers and twice Elliot has scored shortly after….coincidence ?

As we’ve all said before Elliot if played with Whitehall would be on 20+ by now.

Anyway, back to the game. What was Dean thinking consolidating against Blyth and shutting up shop ?. In my opinion we should have kept going forward, not back !

Wilson and Fitzy both messing up but even then we should have been out of sight. Too negative again from Dean and I would have kept Pugh on and subbed Clunan personally.

Did i hear JD say Butterfield is doubtful due to illness ??

Correct. Butterfield needs a rest any way. Pugh will probably be more suited away from home so not too bothered and it gives Butterfield’s legs a rest.

    That makes no sense.
In previous seasons he’s had to play the same amount of games, at the same level, but in a side of less quality whilst holding down a second job. This season he can concentrate full time on training, preparation, rest and recovery but he’s ran out of steam?

I’m merely speculating. Only things I can think of is the fact he’s training more and the fact he’s getting less sleep due to his baby daughter.

Other than that it’s a simple drop in form.

    HMS Piss the League nonsense

Please don’t hate me fellow posters, according to MK iron my tongue in cheek threads may have been a big contribution to our lack of form.

On a more serious note regarding Clunan, this is his first season in full time football and maybe he’s ran out of steam a little because before he was superb but before this season he’s always been in part time football.

You obviously were not at Peterborough Sports WG.

We played more football in the 5 minutes after Butterfield came on than we had in the previous 60 odd minutes put together.

Saturday was the exception but we rarely look dangerous or much likely to score when he is not on the pitch. I accept he had a poor game against Rushall but with the exceptions of Fitzsimons, Kouogan and Sembie-Ferris then so did everyone else.

I agree when he came on we did look better. I have no qualms about him coming on from the bench when we need add that little bit of quality.

As I typed further up the thread…

I’d like to see Butterfield in a 10 role behind Whitehall and to see him coming on in the second half if we need to role the dice for a little bit of magic

I just wouldn’t start him and Scales together from the off as we’re too easy to play through. In a more advanced no 10 role to get him on the ball further up the pitch or off the bench not a problem.

Teams now are getting in and around him and because he hasn’t really got the legs or the physicality to compete on a battling level he’s being nullified. I could be completely wrong but he looks like he’s flagging a bit.

Has the number of games and the physical nature of the league taken it’s toll on him ?

Back to benching our best player? You know I don’t agree.

Best player in terms of ability but we’ve been found out and he’s not really being impacting games for a while now. If benching one player with a lot of ability for a player with less ability that makes us stronger as a unit, I’d rather go down that route.

Pugh is more than good enough for this level.
