Foster did a lot less wrong than the defenders in front of him at Bristol R.

I think Deere was a CB – tried out as a forward – and then returned to defence.

If you only have young players to work with – better to get them to ‘be the best they can be’ in the words of our best manager in all my years of support.

Good grief. That’s more than my pension and that of Mrs Lesgeo combined!

The ones whose ‘legs might not have gone’, Cass. Misfits and troublemakers? – (Not more of those, PLEASE!)
Those with skills but don’t listen to those who know enough to turn ’em into good players?
The arrogant, the weak-minded, the selfish, those who are balanced on the threshold to last-chance-saloon?
Something to really look forward to.
But. Mebbe I’m getting ahead of myself. I gave next Friday as the vital cut-off point – well, there’s still five days left.

Up to four decentish signings this week is really not going to be enough.
It really looks like we’ll be scratting for scraps again if we get into the final week of June and squad incomplete.
KH couldn’t persuade ’em to come here in January …
I haven’t bought a season pass but had intended to be a fairly regular attender but, in all honesty, I don’t think I can face another season of fifth rate sub-mediocrity.
Whether I attend semi-regularly or extremely rarely will, in all likelihood, be decided in the next five days.
    Sigh.

Often referred to as ‘Chief Tufty’ by his mates (which included my Dad) – I could never quite work out if this was intended as compliment or slur.

If the club is going to die – I hope it will be quickly and not a dragged out process.

As we discard manager after manager, the club has got ever weaker. This is a separate issue to anything else that the Swanns may have been doing. (And yes, I would still have sacked Alexander for wrecking a valid promotion attempt.)

    When does it all stop?

Just HOW do we get a manager as good or better? Where from? And accepting the job as it now is would surely be sign of some sort of mental defect, would it not?
We MUST have a settling down period.
Who of quality could we attract to manage the Iron in this state?

(Mind you, I will freely admit, if KH has anything resembling a squad and misuses it, I’ll be shouting for his head by late September.)

The problem there is that it looks like he is not to be allowed a proper squad AGAIN.
What self-respecting player would now sign away two years of their life to join this utter shambles?

    Thanks Cass but no.
He was late 50s or maybe older in 1969.

    This is really bugging me!

Yeah. I passed my test with QP.
Only last week, I was trying to recall the name of the trainer I had.
Came from Epworth, I think. A pal of my Dad, in fact.
    Brain quietly disintegrating, here.

If they are that delicate Cass – I can’t see them making it anyway.
    Professional sport requires real toughness.
One of us must be right, though – unless some wilted and some got stronger, of course.

Got a nasty feeling that we’ll be relying on the young lads a lot more than I’d hoped.
I so want to be wrong!

I’m not prepared to accept that a really good manager like Hill can just lose all his abilities. It is illogical.
There has to be a different answer.
(Incidentally, just how many managers have now ‘lost the plot’ at GP/the SVS under the PS reign?)

I still think that the ‘if necessary’ with regards to the mid-season transfer window was critical and he was left zero chance of rescuing us.
Secondly, I think he did precisely the right thing trying to use ‘dead season time’ to blood loadsa youngsters and let ’em experience what it’s really like at the sharp end.

In an earlier post, I stated that I thought our squad needs to be pretty much complete by a week today.
Not looking good, is it? – It seems at this point in time that we are utterly incapable of attracting decent players to this club. Why would we be surprised knowing what we all know?

I would suggest that KH has tried to find the players he wants. They are refusing to sign. He must now either lower his sights or start gambling.

    I really don’t envy him!

Re: managers talking to the fans on radio.

They are like politicians being interviewed when they would love to tell the whole truth about their party’s new policy on parsnips or whatever.
Unfortunately, stepping out of line will anger the whips who will then ensure their deselection and months/years of misery and persecution up to that point.

Consequently, they utter platitudes and desperately attempt not to say anything meaningful.

This is self-preservation at its highest.

For some unknowable reason, Keith wants to keep the job and so …

It sounds as though the financial side of deals offered may just possibly be working if there have been agreements to then be broken thereafter.

(Wasn’t it Tutte who gazumped us big-style some years ago?)

If – and I do mean if – it is gazumping – naturally, that’s not too good.
Worse though, is that players may be saying ‘yes’ and then spending 24 hours doing a bit of due diligence.

What will they uncover when they spend half an hour researching on the net or phoning up folks they know in the game?

Ambition, great atmosphere, a club on the up-and-up, happy fans, promotion-seeking, optimism OR something else ?

Hill may have earned a good reputation amongst players but what is being said out there about the club itself?

A fit Millen will take the RB slot.
On bits and bobs – Millen looked poor. Once he got a few games under his belt, he looked decent.
I loved those angled crosses into the box – shame that there was nobody to attack them.

    Right then.
This is the week when, those clubs taking things seriously, start to hammer their side into shape.
I assume that KH and LT have finished their holidays and now they can get stuck in.
The side should be more or less in place over the next 12 days.

Incidentally, are we expected to be pursuing Érico Henrique Esteves de Sousa?

If you can’t pay fees – you have to entice players in with substantial wages.
Sigh. So that ain’t gonna happen!
    We desperately need good forwards.

Youngsters cannot do the job we need at the moment.

Gambling is perhaps the only way we stand any chance. The gamble is on players whose injury record MAY now be behind them. I shudder at this thought as I type.

Risky, innit? Especially with our brilliant past record of signing crocks – even pre-dating the Swann tenure. So …?

Off on a tangent – one loanee last season showed glimmers of real promise.
    Sinclair.
Should we be interested? – My take is that he will develop but with our current squad shouldn’t we solely be looking for experience ahead of potential?
