Interesting results from Brentford today: just shows how speculating to accumulate can deliver some seriously handy results. Basically: they’ve turned every £1 invested into £1.50 in terms of transfer fees over the last 7 years.
Since Brentford were promoted to the Championship in 2014 they have spent £95m on players and generated sales of £151m, shows that spending it smartly makes more sense than just spending it. pic.twitter.com/s43FEj4mmo

anyway Ferrite you will get your wish and the point you are trying to promote shortly, because I cannot see Hill being here still May!!!, I am sorry to say.
Where have I said I want Cox back?
My point is more that everyone thinks Hill is doing a good job – and he is – yet the overall improvement is barely noticeable and we’re still going to go down.
Les – good point, you could also add Onarise & Hippolyte to that list in some ways because they’ve played relatively few Football League games for their respective ages.

On that point WG, how many more loan slots have we got left in the squad? Can’t be many with:
Hackney
Wood
Matheson
BurnsI do agree, though Bristol Rovers fans seem disappointed with his debut.
“Was it just me or did anyone else notice Loft didn’t win one ball in the air yesterday? 6’4″, strong, gets off the ground ok but timing is awful.”
A familiar comment.
Sounds about right. He has his qualities but target man is not one of them.
Would dispute that Loft took many goals with him when he left or that Hill has made much of an impact but completely agree that we’re going down with a whimper.

Yes it was a good plan ferrite, enjoyed the three years where we gave it a good go to get promoted, not enjoying it very much at the moment but that’s football. Can’t imagine any owner who is not pilloried with the prospect of losing lge status, and lots achieve it as well, most owners don’t survive afterwards, must admit it’s hard to be optimistic at the moment but I will try to be.
Lots of clubs have aimed for the stars and ended up in the gutter. It may be fun along the way but that doesn’t mean it’s a good way to run a club.
I’d have much more confidence about the future if I could see more evidence of efforts off the pitch to maximise the club’s potential: instead of just putting the blame on stay-away fans, I’d love to see more in the way of fan engagement, trying to grow crowds and therefore benefit the club. Maybe it is happening but it’s hard to see from the outside. We’ve all said these things about the quality of the kits (something which does seem to have improved), the quality of the food & drink, all those little things that make a big difference.

January 14, 2022 at 3:27 pm in reply to: SWANNS Last Chance to Save Our Football League Status #221634Paul Reid! Although in fairness he was signed when Alan Knill joined in the final Championship days. Sent off at Norwich in a dire 6-0 defeat.
Exeter is one of my favourite away trips, it’s a great town and a nice ground too. I’d be going under different circumstances.
January 14, 2022 at 12:04 pm in reply to: SWANNS Last Chance to Save Our Football League Status #221617Rather more seriously though, it is the Manny situation which has tilted everything the wrong way. That’s what happens when you do not have a balanced squad.
Onarise is a good example of a player who improves when he’s out of the team because, let’s be right, he has been pretty hopeless a lot of the time when he has played.

To be successful and get us promotion to the championship Pat, unfortunately he didn’t succeed, so let everyone beat him up for trying.
Do you think that was a good plan?

Tickets booked. Expecting it to be very low on away numbers
You two might have plenty of space on the terrace but you’ll have to sing for the rest of us!

It’s not a huge surprise is it? No money & bottom 2, not the most attractive of packages!

And not forgetting that he has the finest combover in modern football!
Wonder if McGahey & Clarke are seeing a frying pan/fire situation.
Sorry to hear that Ironfromafar, that’s horrible. We lost one of our regular away day group last year and it was so weird going back to games and seeing the gap where they used to stand.
On Scrimshaw – his finishing looked ok but otherwise I thought he offered virtually nothing – poor control, not much passing, just a lot of running.
I remember the heady days of the sit in at Boothferry park after Paul Baker scored late on. Happier times (this side of the bridge)!
The same Exeter who probably have twice our budget and have spent the last 9 seasons in League 2?
The world “probably” is doing a lot of work in that sentence.
But if they do, good luck to them, as a fan-owned club, they’re proving what can be achieved.
They’ve also done well by developing young players, such as Ollie Watkins. I’m struggling to remember the last player who came through our youth system & we sold for money. Maybe Hakeeb?

UTI could do a lot worse than take the bus down to Exeter and chat to their fans about how their club is run. He’ll be amazed that they consistently perform well in this division without a sugardaddy.

O’Shea? can’t remember him.
Wasn’t that the name of the keeper who came in on loan from Burton when Watson was injured? Apologies if I’ve got his name wrong.
Ah yes he’ll be able to identify a currently unknown pool of quality players all desperate to play for SUFC.
We seemed to find a way of doing this back in the days when the club was run as a hobby.
So just to clarify, any club in the lower half of their respective division needs to change their owner and recruitment team?
Lower half? Bottom two? Maybe, if the club has reasonable expectations of being higher. If any organisation is failing to achieve reasonable results, it should be looking at changing the way it does things. I would have thought that was obvious.

Not surprised on Scrimshaw, clearly Hill doesn’t rate him and I tend to agree with him.
Billson is a more surprising one, Watson doesn’t have the best injury record as a keeper and do we really want to have to risk an emergency loan like with O’Shea?

I’d be amazed if anyone replied “Yes”. This has been the direction of travel since before Graham Alexander was sacked.

One of the most disgusting posts it has ever been my misfortune to read.
Very unpleasant but you should see some of the stuff that someone’s been posting on t’other forum, it’ll make your eyes bleed!
I thought the club guaranteed a bus would run to every away game? Presumably that’s no longer the case?

I agree, however if we don’t win one of our next few matches, I do wonder if it might happen. Or Hill might walk – and I wouldn’t blame him if he did.

Where did I say it was Mick?
It might show how far we’ve fallen, but letting your top scorer for the last two seasons go when you’re in a relegation scrap is suicide.
He might not be consistent, he might be infuriating to watch sometimes, but he was the most likely scorer on any given week.
£50k is nothing. 100 extra fans a week gets us that. He might’ve been disillusioned but it’s a manager’s job to motivate the players!
I completely understand that school of thought and there’s definitely something to it but you have to remember that he’s scored only 4 goals this season, 1 of which was a penalty and 1 was clearly an own goal. Scrimshaw has scored 3 and I don’t think anyone would be gutted if his loan was cancelled.

Assuming we keep Hackney & sign this bloke from Blackburn, then we’re going to be close to filling our loan quota aren’t we? Assuming Billson stays as back-up to Watson and Scrimshaw as a bench option.
4 league goals this season, including a penalty and one which was clearly an own goal. Not the most impressive of records is it?
Meanwhile, are we assuming that Hill doesn’t fancy Scrimshaw much?
