With Brown, Van Veen, Onarosie and Mcgahey I’d be confident we’d have enough, however it’s increasingly unlikely all 4 will feature again together. If we lose Clarke and a midfielder we are back to getting tonked 5-0 at home.

This is the doing of Swann and the transfer committee dealing with chancers such as Askgodders and other morons flogging us shite. He’s Scunthorpe born And bred and there would have been fewer able to convey to that group of players what it means to fans.
If as a sportsman you can’t get motivated to do your job, especially in a local derby then you’re not up to the task regardless who’s in the dressing room.
Well I feel that most regular forum members already know my views regarding Scunthorpe keepers, as far as which of a poor choice should be our number one, I think that Watson just tilts my opinion.
Watson is poor with dealing with ground shots, and does not control his goal area enough, but is in my opinion quicker to react when saving shots, except does not deal with low shots very well, but is slightly better cutting out crosses.
Whereas Howards positional play is very poor, he is rooted to his goal line at all times and too many of our defensive problems are because he never deals with crosses, and if the defender does not clear these, too many goals result from them. He is very slow in deciding to move to the ball, and his punching results in the ball going in any direction, he appears to have threepenny bit type knuckles. Howards kicking is not good, but after saying that, Watsons is the same, far too many kicks would be better suited to Wigan or Hull KR.
At the end of the day, all these problems associated with both keepers point to the goal keeping coach, who fails to try and correct a few of them. Makes me wander why Mussa has a spell before matches of pumping crosses into the certre of the goal area which are collected by the keepers coming out and catching the ball, but in games, this never happens, if we can see these problembs, WHY CANNOT MISSA ??????.
Need to start improving the quality of balls into the box, must have had 15+ crosses tonight which fell to a barrow player.
Conceding goals at stupid times has to stop too, we have to manage games better around times after we score or close to half/full times.
Nevertheless, fair play to the team for persevering and getting the 3 points- good to see Clarke get on the scoresheet after a fairly ropey performance.
Big result to put some daylight between us and the bottom 2- it’s getting congested down there now. Hopefully we have no more injury worries this week.
regarding the goal, it was crossed from Clarke’s side and not O’Malley’s, so seeing it was scored in the middle of the goal it was more the central defence and not the full back not covering when it wasn’t the winger coming in from wing to score, it was a well taken goal.
It was O’Malley’s man, no doubt. We lambasted Hornshaw for sloppy marking earlier in the season and it’s something that he can’t afford to become habit.
Despite that, I thought he had another good game, and the whole team for that matter. Really good tempo, put decent balls into the box but just couldn’t find that goal. We seemed to struggle aswell to create any more chance once Col went 5 at the back.
So much improvement from the start of the season though.
You conveniently forget Barton that he took the job with most of the squad already assembled, and what a shit show of a squad he inherited; Throw in half the team decimated by COVID for 2 weeks and it was a recipe for disaster.
Since getting his senior players back the transformation is there for all to see. His enthusiasm for hard work, team spirit and a genuine passion for the club comes through in the players performances and his interviews alike. The port vale performance proved how much the players were willing to put it on the line.
More of a question then who goes out rather who comes in; the squad is still far too big.
Keepers: send one of the young lads out on loan.
Right back: Fine.
Left back: would be tempted to send Butroid on loan, but with Brown’s injury record that could be risky
Centre backs: Bedeau is a suitable back up.
Wingers: strength in depth there. Dales is surplus to requirements so he can go.
Centre mids: I’d be tempted to send Vincent back. Leaves us with Beestin, Spence, Taylor, Hallam, Hornshaw.
Striker: far too many strikers on the books. Olomola and Turan can go for me. Leaves us with Loft, Van Veen, Jarvis, mcatee, Jessop.
Recent weeks have proved this squad are good enough to compete in this league and I’d like to see the players given chance to develop. Players like O’Malley and Beestin would have never been given the opportunity without injuries and they deserve an opportunity to have a sustained run in the team.
