Torquay entering administration, Blyth sold to goodness-knows-who, Rochdale on the brink: for all of our problems this year, we still need to be thankful for the fact we still have a club and trust the people who are running it now.
It’s never going to be an easy walk back to glory, there will be plenty of bumps in the road, this is one of them.
Beat me to it. Rochdale could be in real trouble as they seem to be going down without much of a fight.
Blyth’s new owner has no traceable income and seems to preach from the same pulpit as Hilton. As soon as an owner mentions a 5 year plan you know you’re in trouble.

It is clear to all that he needs to go however, as many others have stated, finances may dictate the outcome of that
Dean has 3 or 4 months left on his contract so I can’t envisage costing a great deal to pay him up. I suspect sending Beestin and say Barrows out on loan will pay for it.
Cliff, I’m not sticking the boot into Jimmy as I’ve said before I like him as a person, but you can’t escape the fact this job is too big for him.
There’s still a cost though, along with Plummer and potentially bringing a replacement in. People mention Butler but he’s part of the coaching team that is failing to get a tune out of the players and has no experience.
You was also desperate for new players to come in when it could be argued they weren’t needed- another significant cost for us.
All I advise is people take a step back and try to look at the broader picture, if Dean loses the next 2/3 of games it will be clear that the position is completely untenable and he has to be paid off, however in our current financial state i’d prefer that to be the absolute last option.
In an ideal world we could limp through to summer and regroup, whether that comes to fruition is anyone’s guess.

Agree Rene, wasn’t long ago he was owed thousands in wages and expenses. It would appear he’s struggling and possibly well out of his depth, but I for one won’t be sticking the boot in whilst he’s down.
It’s an unfortunate situation where the club can’t really act unless their hand is forced.

Agreed Ferrite.
If promotion to the EFL was at stake then I’d understand the urgency- but it isn’t and there’s hardly any financial gain to be had. It could be a painful few months but it’s a case of suck it up and regroup in the summer.
The players do have to take a certain amount of responsibility too, they know the score with the club’s finances and collectively they are on an absolute fortune.
Give me 7th place tonight and I’d snap your hand off.
Interesting read on Andy Holt’s Twitter account from the last couple of days with regards to the finance of football clubs.
Without external funding, I can’t see a way into the EFL for us for a very long time.
At some point, yes.
I’d rather the priority see us continuing to progress off the pitch and work towards building a sustainable model; rather than demanding players all the time and pay no interest in the balance sheet. We tried that before and it almost liquidated us.
Dean probably isn’t the man to lead us long term, but until his contract is up then we have to hope he can find the solution to turn it around.
If we don’t go up this season it will be catastrophic, the board need to see it.
Will it?
There’s hardly a pot of gold in the national league, no extra tv money and the away attendances will marginally increase
It will be a complete failure to not achieve promotion with this squad, however with the budget due to be slashed I certainly don’t see the desperate need for promotion in terms of the club’s sustainability.

February 14, 2024 at 8:54 am in reply to: 1899 / 100 Members Consultation Event @ GP Monday 18th #281032Very poor? All or probably more often their money back in value is poor?your mate Hilton’s scam was poor, this is a great offer that they didn’t have to make
I’m not sure that’s necessarily true as the contract was between the club and the buyer.
Nevertheless the offer seems to be a fair one, it’s a shame that supporters were conned and the initial outlay is huge, however over time they should hopefully regain their outlay.
For those still not happy- and there will be some- I do believe the offer of a full refund should be kept on the table until the beginning of next season.

Benny Bentley was one of the main bully boys during Hilton’s tenure, he appears to be as clueless on football as he was on football finance.
Another obstacle overcome and a huge step in the right direction off the field.
Signing a couple of players to me though is unfortunately papering over the cracks; this is Jimmy’s squad and x4 times more expensive than our rivals. We should be doing better regardless.

Harsh on Ogle & Butterfield IMO Cliff.
Basing it on the last month Cass, their standards should be higher as without doubt they are better than this league.

There’s no way the players were playing for Jimmy yesterday; I’m of the opinion that bringing in more players or changing the formation is just rearranging the deckchairs on the titanic.
His senior players in Ogle, Clunan, Butterfield and Whitehall are all performing well below par; he needs to find a magic formula to rediscover their form or it could become ugly very quickly for him.

We was 2 up top most of the game- didn’t make the slightest bit of difference
We were sort of, but they weren’t playing close enough together because at times the other was dropping deep.
Honestly don’t know what you were watching then mate.

Clueless performance on and off the field.
My fear from last season was always when confidence slipped, Dean wouldn’t be able to recover. The players were not playing for him today.
I’d snap your hand off for 2nd now
Got to get it right / assume the budget is based on a number of season ticket sales and average attendances (probably 2.500-3,000) but if we keep serving up the dross that we’ve seen in the past few matches then the following season it’ll be 1,500 avg. which is still good for this pub league but our overheads will be a lot higher. If we fail to get promoted (and we need to play a lot better to stand a chance of going up through the playoffs) then I’d want somebody with a bit more footballing experience (as in league football) and that could be Butler – but do you give him total free reign for player selection? Or do you stick with Dean for another crack at promotion? If we’re looking at sustainability and long term then Dean isn’t the answer for me. But these are tough decisions ahead of us
We were above 2500 whilst at an all time low.
Thought both the Bru and the Ironhour podcast were enjoyable listens this week, good to see them both back regularly.
They were one of the worst sides we’ve played all year- a draw is not good enough.
alarm bells are ringing now

Good result on paper with Tamworrh drawing but that Absolute garbage served up today i’m afraid.
Huge gaps in the midfield, it’s been a problem for a while now and one of the reasons we hardly win a second ball. We struggled big time on goal kicks as Rushall set up with a high press and stopped us playing it through them, no outlet up top either; Nervous performance all round.
Might seem harsh but we haven’t been right for a while now and we have a squad assembled which is x4 more expensive than everyone else. If we are serious about going for the title we have to be better.

Didn’t we beat them comfortably 3-0 at their place earlier this season?, mind you we beat Tamworth at their place and look how that worked out. If we don’t beat this lot on Saturday then something is going wrong and needs sorting.
Comfortable win but not really a comfortable performance.
Be interesting to see how the team and management respond, Tuesday was a big psychological hit.
Not well thought of at Oldham.
Hell of an agent he’s got.
Fastest and fittest player in the team. Did he score many at Sheffield?
Tamworth I thought were fairly poor themselves. I don’t think they were anything special at all in all honesty. They were more physical and better drilled but that’s about it.
One thing I will say is we look lightweight in midfield. Scales get’s bullied out of it and Butterfield is now ineffective. Clunan is ok but nothing more than that.
I know Beestin is still struggling in terms of match fitness but I’d go him and Pugh in the middle with Clunan behind them with Scales on the right wing with Ferris on the left with Whitehall through the middle.
The CM area needs beefing up. I know it’s a risk playing Beestin there but he’ll be fitter after last night and with more game time he’ll get back to not looking like he’s playing in lead boots.
If Dean was more tactically clued up then he’d change it up and move Butterfield much further forward in a no 10 role and play him behind Whitehall in a bid to get him time on the ball but he only knows one way of playing.
Can’t agree with that, thought they put in a very good performance; as an away fan you’d be absolutely delighted with the way they played and it’s no fluke they are on such an incredible run.
Saturday will be interesting, does he double down on the 4-3-3 and the same personnel? The post match interview was concerning as he didn’t seem to acknowledge none of it was really working before the red card.
Personally, I haven’t seen nothing from Clunan since he returned from injury to suggest he should be starting, Beestin just doesn’t look fit enough either so I’d consider putting Pugh and Sembie Ferris in the starting line up. Butterfield has to be further up the field too, I’d almost play him as a second striker and end up in more of a 4-2-3-1 which was more or less the way we set up earlier in the league.

Not sure why Butterfield seems to be dropping deeper game by game; first half especially was one of those games where you want him within shooting range to offer a different threat. He often becomes lost in those scrappy midfield battles.
Midfield is looking far too lightweight at the minute, if Clunan wasn’t captain he would’ve been dropped, just doesn’t look the same since returning from injury. I’d seriously consider dropping him for a couple of games.
Despite our faults, Tamworth are by far and away the best side I’ve seen this year. Very much reminiscent of a number of national league sides I saw us against last year. Tonight’s result was no fluke, and barring an implosion they will lift the title in may.
To finish a dreadful night on a positive, 5,000 home fans on a Tuesday night is absolutely incredible support for Scunthorpe.
Numerous bad decisions tonight, as mentioned the decision to leave Wilson and Beestin on- whom were the 2 worst players on the pitch- and take Elliott off was baffling.
Everything has become stale tbh, we have one way of playing which has served us well for the majority of the season, but there is no alternative when teams set up to counter- usually with a high press and physicality in the middle of the park like Buxton and Tamworth. Having only 2 strikers on the books limits what we can do with the formation.
My worry now is how Dean can motivate the squad to turn it around, we went into a death spiral after the Notts county game last year and lost a ridiculous amount in a row; I’m not suggesting that will happen but does he have the capability to put 6/7 wins together in a row to reignite the title charge- I’m skeptical.
I’ll make no secret of the fact I like Dean, he’s a good bloke and the way he conducted himself through the back end of the Hilton era put goodwill credit in the bank with me. However, If we don’t win this league, which is becoming more realistic by the week, it’s a failure. Not gaining promotion at all and he has to go.
1-1
Att: 4,676
Real shame this is a Tuesday night. Probably wiped the best part of 1,000 of the crowd
Chris skinner was one of the few on the Facebook group who gave Herbert what for before his, and Hilton’s eventual downfall.

About 600, train prices were never cheap when tickets first came out so put a lot of going, on the day £64.20 and people paid it.
Very good, especially with the time of year.
Looks like a fair few Scunny fans are going in the home end for S’boro, hopefully not a repeat of the scenes at the hawthorns today.

Great effort. How many were there yesterday? Looked a good turnout on Gareth’s vlog
