We improved when the subs came on and switched from 4-4-2 to 4-3-3
Farrell and Whitehall can’t play together, expect Farrell to go back to Barnsley.
Alfie is the best finisher at the club. So happy we won! UTI

I disagree with this narrative around Howe. He was playing left of a front three – not his position granted. AB only plays with one centre forward. It is clear that Howe needs to play as part of a two. That wont happen, playing two up top is slightly old fashioned tactics.
Howe unfortunately playing out of position means his defensive and tactical nous is very limited and means we are weaker when he plays in that position.
Whitehall is a better all round centre forward because he is taller, can hold the ball up and has a better goalscoring record at this and the level below.
I do like Howe’s effort although mind you how many 90 mins did he complete with us?
This doesn’t mean I prefer Smith, Dausch or Hurst though on the left. All three are right footed and means that we play too narrow with Roberts also cutting in and our fullbacks don’t overlap as they are more defensive in nature (Starbuck is more offensive but his defending recently has been shaky)
Anyway, a different perspective…
I’ve done some reflecting and…
Watched the highlights on YouTube- deep joy.
Summary of the goals
0-1 bad defending from Horton, just very sloppy and not concerned about the threat from their attacker. Oddly was looking away from the ball when their attacker did well to latch onto the ball and cross. Fault – Horton
0-2 excellent finish, whitehall closed down okay. Fault – no one was a well worked goal
0-3 smith’s defending for the cross was poor. Evans was outmuscled and outjumped at the back post for his header. Fault – Smith was not close enough to the crosser
1-3 good finish from Roberts, good assist from Horton
1-4 poor tackle from Rowley. Good ball in from them, Ewing was not goal side of the attacker who went on to score. V poor. Fault – Ewing
2-4 a very soft pen given to us. Good finish from Whitehall
2-5 not a foul on Rowley, down too easy. Good play and finish from them. Fault- Rowley
3-5 definitely a penalty. Good finish from Roberts.
3-6 Evans looked to be fouled but not given and they were a little lucky with the break. Fault – defence.Overall I wouldn’t single out Mahady for any of the goals which was interesting. And I thought that Butler got the half time subs right after watching the highlights with Smith and Ewing being v poor for the goals they were at fault for.
I wasn’t too despondent as I actually saw that the players were putting a shift in but we’re just crap on the day.
Gonna be a tricky match tomorrow.
Would probably give Ewing a rest, play Beestin in the hole. So slight formation change from 4-3-3 to 4-2-3-1. Westbrooke and Rowley sitting in CM.
Let’s hope for a more consistent defence tomorrow!

Poor all round.
Thought there were some decent moments for us.
However, Fitzy has let us down today – yet he has saved us many more points in the long run and our best player.
Midfield was dominated yet again and lacks creativity – serious issues.
Carlton looked well off it and think he may be better as a winger. Fishburn looked a lot better at holding it up than him.
We missed Evans at the back imo.
Wish we had that version of Isaac Fletcher a couple of seasons ago, looked very well equipped at this level. Creative and strong.
All in all, a lot of work to do.

“Michael, 35, also captained the Seadogs during his six-year spell with East Coast side, where he made 250 competitive appearances and scored 104 goals. He was Scarborough’s top scorer last term with 16 goals, before leaving the club by mutual consent last week.”
Good player at this level I’d say. One to watch out for today!

Thank you Caolan, your goals have a very small positive in an otherwise terrible time for the club. Good player at this level, from my calculations he has his best career scoring ratio with us too!

my dad is equally “fizzing” after doing the same lesgeo
Ha, I forgot about Burns, yes probably Burns in for Pyke/Nuttall.
Still believe Pugh>Beestin for his B2B qualities. Grant won’t be that mobile and likes to sit deeper. I have read in the past that Grant prefers to play in a three so could rule out a 4-4-2.
Pugh will help get us up the pitch. In terms of footballing ability Beestin is better than Pugh but with Pugh in CM we have a better balanced team and a better first 11.

KDT didn’t look good. Poor touch, bullied by non-league defenders and can’t pass either. Unsurprising he doesn’t have a squad number.
Wilson and Jessop were the pick of the players for me. Perry plays nice diagonal balls and looked comfortable. Wouldn’t be surprised to see Kenyon and Perry CM for Swindon.
Watson cam e for the ball and dropped it in the box and they nearly scored and was very quiet throughout, no organising the back line.
Good freekick from O’Malley, good to see Hallam start and play pretty well too.
Roll on Saturday UTI
