“Dodgy keeper”. Comment heard from Spennymoor on their highlights when Campbell failed to hold a simple shot straight at him (pathetic goalkeeping for their goal too).
If he was a trialist we’d all be questioning why the hell he’s being given this much game time. Very worrying if Butler thinks he’s good enough!
Mid-table mediocrity will do me this season. Think we have the firepower to cause teams problems but the goalkeeper situation and lack of midfield general/right back (hopefully gets sorted soon) does really worry me.

I know it’s 7 subs in NL, can you use 5?Yep, 7 subs named, can use 5.

July 26, 2025 at 11:51 pm in reply to: To Those Who’ve Been To Pre-Season Games – Name Your Starting Lineup. #307647Question is do you play a system that protects the keeper (knowing his handling isn’t great) or go for one where attack is seen as being the best form of defence.
The answer is probably somewhere along the lines of we should have prioritised some of the budget to sign a decent goalkeeper who doesn’t lead to these sorts of questions being asked, rather than signing a plethora of attackers, half of whom won’t even make it onto the bench come the opening day of the season.

July 26, 2025 at 10:12 pm in reply to: To Those Who’ve Been To Pre-Season Games – Name Your Starting Lineup. #307643So Campbell was mostly a spectator but still managed to cost us a goal (again). Fear it’s going to be a long season ahead if he’s between the sticks.
Only after fan revolt, which the board were clearly massively disappointed by. If everyone stayed quiet they would have went full steam ahead, never forget that!
Other than the goalkeeper position this is my biggest worry for the season ahead. Clunan was a massive part of our spine and we certainly missed him when he was out of the team.
It’s pretty obvious we haven’t replaced him, Ewing has been much more forward thinking in these pre-season games and none of our other midfielders can play in that position (Rowley, Scales, Brogan, Beestin…they’re all pretty pants defensively).
The squad seems massively unbalanced. We’ve got 6 central strikers currently playing (Whitehall, Howe, Dawson, Simmonds, Carlton, Beck…could also throw Beestin and Chadwick into the mix to make it 8). Going to be hard keeping them happy with (hopefully) 1 spot to fill when we play our preferred 4-3-3. In contrast we don’t have a single defensively minded midfielder and no fit right back (Starbuck ain’t the answer).

Just saw the club reply to a comment on FB questioning the off centre sponsor and confirming that the shirts used in the promo vid/photos were just samples and “rest assured the retail and match worn shirts are centralised”.
One thing that stood out is the EHM part of the sponsor isn’t in the middle of the shirt which looks terrible!
Which is really odd considering it is centered in the leaked preview pictures.
Very good spot, you are correct…which does make it really odd!
Great launch video (again) but I do not like the shirt (don’t really care though as I haven’t owned one since my teens).

Bringing Watson back is all just a ploy by Butler et al. to distract us from Campbell being earmarked as our esteemed no.1. It’s the only logical reason (and is kinda working).

Wrong again awaywego grandson confirmed that is the home shirt, don’t need to see it in the flesh no claret makes it absolutely crap.
Hope hardly anyone buys it.I’ve seen the picture you’re referring to, it’s not the one’s they’re wearing you silly goose (those are training tops)…it’s the one’s hanging up on the rack in the bottom right of the image.

Has he also been genuinely unlucky to only start 11 games in 3 seasons since leaving us? No, it’s because he’s shite and isn’t good enough to be a number 1 at National League level.

Yep. We played our best football last season when we ditched 3/5 at the back and went 4-3-3 with 1 central striker and 2 wingers. We now have 5 strikers (Whitehall, Beck, Howe, Dawson, Carlton, plus a 6th when we keep playing this Okera Simmonds in pre-season)!
Why do we have so many when we’re crying out for a capable keeper, a defensively minded midfielder and a right back (until Barrows is back). Doesn’t make much sense to me.

Agreed, centre midfield is still a problem and so is centre half…especially if we’re going 3/5 at the back.
I just can’t see us going with only 2 in central midfield with the players we have. Whichever formation we played with last season we played every game that I can remember with Clunan plus 2 others in central midfield (usually Rowley and Scales/Beestin). Still slightly concerned that we haven’t really replaced Clunan, Ewing seems much more forward thinking. With that in mind I’d go 4-3-3:
Polo Hands / Dracula
Starbuck (ideally a new RB)
Belehouan
Evans
DentonEwing
Rowley
BeestinRoberts
Whitehall

A solid, dependable keeper who commands their area breeds confidence in the defenders in front of him.
Honestly can’t believe that the two we have are the best available to us, we really must have zero pence in the bank. Today was the first time I’ve ever reacted to a Scunny signing by genuinely holding my head in my hands with disbelief .
It’s amazing how many supporters forget how shite those teams were and dumped much of the blame on Rory. Not forgetting the inept managers
I certainly remember how shite they were, with Rory being one of shite-ist! If we didn’t bring in Mark Howard during the 20/21 season we would have arrived at our non-league destination sooner than we did.

Rory is a good keeper
So good that he’s managed to start 11 games in 3 seasons?
…. naw don’t bother we are all yawning already.
Aww…sticking up for your husband. Pathetic.
I trust the actual experts within the club staff to decide if he’s good enough and ready, not supporters who aren’t professionals.
You make it out as if “experts” at the club are always right, when they clearly aren’t. It was “experts” at the club that decided Jamie Vardy wasn’t worth signing. It was “experts” at the club that decided Charlie Goode was rubbish and sold him for peanuts, same with Cam Burgess (both went on the play in the Premier League). “Experts” at the club decided not to replace Matt Gilks and go with Rory Watson as no.1…that turned out a good decision didn’t it? I could go on…
Definitely caught in no mans land, positionally awful. One of those keepers that looks to be scared of the ball.
Overall defence was shocking for that goal though, not just Campbell’s fault.
When we signed Fitz he had just come off of a season where he was Chesterfield’s no.1 and played in the NL playoff final in the division above us. So to belittle his experience is nonsense. We’re now going into this season relying on a goalkeeper with ZERO professional starts in football, let alone the division we’re about to ply our trade in or even the division we’ve just come from. He will 100% be targeted by other teams and so far, on the evidence provided in his game time this season and in the cup games last, he is not ready. Those trying to suggest this isn’t anything other than worrying are living in cloud cuckoo land.

I see Beck knocked it down into Roberts path for the first goal, no mention of that from the anti Beck brigade either, guess it luckily hit his head and fell luckily into Roberts path, lol.
Where did you “see” this? Because that’s not what happened at all, was a 1 yard pass with his foot, ball didn’t touch his head. Lol.
Campbell again olé olé.
Will it make us any money though? We moved a NYD game and played behind closed doors against the Cods in the Lincs cup because we supposedly couldn’t afford to open the stadium.

Nice of the club to straight up lie and try to pull the wool over our eyes with their signing announcement for Billy boy on the OWS…”a consistent starter for Adam Hinshelwood’s promotion chasing side last campaign”.
He started 8 games for York in the NL last season. Consistent starter my arse!
The point you were trying to make is still nonsense, a big mistake by a keeper and a miss from a striker aren’t comparable. Maison Campbell is not a good goalkeeper and should be nowhere near our first team. That opinion is based on what my own two eyes have seen, not unfair bias.
1 user thanked author for this post.
Nonsense, there’s a big difference in your argument. If a striker misses 4 or 5 chances but bags the winner every game he’d be playing for Real Madrid. If a keeper makes 3 or 4 saves and then drops a clanger every game he’ll be unemployed.
