It’s the way of the world these days; I was at a Parkway Drive concert a couple of years ago and there was a person who spent the first 20 minutes of the set on facetime to her friend! WtF!!!
I was once at an intimate acoustic gig and a person sat right at the front held up an iPad and filmed the entire show. Like your FaceTimer, also WTF.

Players like him are what makes football. Quality. Already my favourite player. Biggest hero since King Kev.
He’s really good but has a tendency to drift out of games, imho. The man I’m looking at as the new Paul Longden (ie. Mr Consistency) is Regan Ogle.

Indeed, I am hoping to see part 2 of the infamous David Hilton article in The Athletic.
I mean, I think they know what’s what and could say it in detail – but things haven’t been completely lawyered yet, which is an essential stage.

From 4 minutes in confirmation of the true amount that Hilton invested in Scunthorpe United.
https://x.com/kieranmaguire/status/1711221303246549419?s=61It doesn’t seem as if anyone is in quite the position to lay all this out bare, just give a brief overview. I look forward to the gory details.
I agree that this was good and credit him for his effort. I think in terms of fan unity he can improve. It will probably ease off once the dust settles. There was anger towards Turnbull after his comments at the end of Swann, and I wasn’t happy about it, yet most have moved on now. Myself included. It will be the same with Simon if he knuckles down, doesn’t aggravate fans as before and does his job as director without fuss.
I don’t dislike him or think it’s beyond him. I understand that he has done some good. I realise that many supported Hilton. However, they weren’t so intertwined, and many have apologised and recognised the situation. Credit to MK Iron, and others, who have done this. There’s no point holding grudges for backing Hilton when fans thought it was in their best interest, and recognise that con men have a knack for fooling people. I just wish Elliott made some effort in saying sorry after shoring Hilton up with his presence and I do think it was for his own interests.
Anyway, that will be all. Nothing new to say. I move on and look forward to football under the new owners. I think, in time, these niggles will abate.
I agree, I think things will fade in time – which is why it’s important to say it loud now before it disappears and is forgotten. Elliott was arrogant and owes apologies.

It’s a pain. But it’s not as bad as people talking through a gig.
This is why I thought Simon should have apologised. There will be grievances from some quarters after he derided fans. Like I have said, unity goes both ways. Elliott needs to make amends. I am happy for him to do so, but understand some will be irritated after his conduct.
Exactly this.
He will feel “being Simon Elliott” and being part of the new era is amends in itself – but it’s not, is it?
You could see what he was about the day he inserted himself in the Wembley ’99 reunion side for that charity match at GP.
… and, of course, when he ambulance-chased Jimmy Dean and got a hospital selfie for his socials.

But plenty have concerns already on Elliott, Ian, and Turnbull, and they get slagged off, goes without saying me included, one mans terrorist is another man’s freedom fighter, Hitler managed to unite a nation and look what happened there hopefully no lives will be lost at Scunny lol.
I think the club is in relatively safe and steady hands, and that is a good thing. That doesn’t mean I think we are in the promised land, and there are a couple of variables it will be interesting to see play out. I don’t trust in Elliott’s motivations. You could see what he was about the day he inserted himself in the Wembley ’99 reunion side for that charity match at GP.
Well tuther side was asking for unity for the last 9 months and all they got in the main was derision on here, “arse lickers site”
They may have been using the word unity but they were asking for compliance and for red flags to be ignored.
I was really hoping that this petty minded bickering would have stopped. Appears that some people just can’t help themselves.
I’m not bickering, and I’m not petty minded.
Moving on in unity is fine. But we can still be in disagreement over issues, and we can hold nuanced or conflicting opinions on the people involved. Moving on in unity actually just means everyone being focused and intent on reaching the common goal – in this case, the survival of our football club and it remaining in its home.
I have merely been stating my opinion, which is based on observation: Elliott behaved questionably – and arrogantly – towards supporters who expressed legitimate concerns. He has some apologising to do.

I think there’s a whole horrendous story behind this as to what went on in the boardroom. I saw a picture of Turnbull on Saturday and he looks like he’s aged 10 years in 6 months.
It was stressful enough being a supporter during Hilton’s reign – particularly for those who had ‘spotted it’ months and months ago but were given a hard time by the pro-Hilton cult. But being staff at SUFC? I don’t think we will ever know the full extent of the behind-the-scenes story nor the toll it has taken on people.

The question not answered is if Hilton had no funds what did he show to he did ?
Ask Simon Elliott. He said he saw proof of funds.
Did he really? Or did he just take Hilton’s word for it, because he perceived him to be powerful and wealthy?
Himself ..so hes in the right place at the right time to facilitate his involvement at the club.
At times running with the foxes n the hounds it appears its turned out quite well for him .. and in truth im ok with that so long as the club survives.
So we’re in agreement, then – about his methods at least. My concern is that he doesn’t really care whether it’s fox or hound, as long as he’s running – and seen to be running. That will (already has, in fact) resulted in some poor choices being made. I think other people have said elsewhere on Bru, at the very least he owes apologies.
Wonder what will become of the Glebe rd site ??
The site that Scunthorpe United did not buy, you mean?
Yes that one
It would be quite something if, at some point in the future, the club actually did buy it and relocate!

IMO his stance has always been one of positioning for the future enough said.
Positioning the club, or himself?
I disagree vehemently. He is not a politician. He is straight. Why can’t supporters simply get behind the Club?
Of course he’s a politician. Do you really think turning up at JD’s hospital bed and taking a selfie for use on social media was anything less than campaigning and self-promotion?
I suspect it’s people aggrieved by his verbal backing of Hilton, berating sceptical fans for not backing him and no apology. I didn’t boo, think he should be given a chance to redeem himself, but I didn’t clap him like the others.
He’s a politician and a chancer, always has been – positions himself wherever the power is so that by standing next to it YOU will think he’s big and important.

I’m very interested in public perception and what is required to change opinions en masse. How much truth does it require, and how little doubt does it take to undermine it?
There’s probably a state of disbelief, for some – that this kind of thing just doesn’t happen in ‘little old Scunthorpe’ or to Scunthorpe United – and therefore cannot be true. In other words, for some people it’s too outlandish to believe.
There will also be plenty of people who simply don’t understand the finances. This is where a timeline and a clear and thorough explanation of what happened would help. Hopefully that is what is coming soon.
It doesn’t help that when the new owner took over, the club issued a statement which gave him a face-saving ‘out’. It was obviously politics to do this, but once again some people simply won’t understand.

Elliott went about it the wrong way, no need to play the smart arse.
Entitled and egotistical.
Our fans do have a habit of letting us down don’t they? Now it’s unreasonable to ask questions about whether or not owners have the funds needed
I trust that the new regime has the funds to stabilise the club and don’t think it’s unreasonable for him to ask such questions, given our recent historyAndy Comfort is good at his job. It was a reasonable question, one which he asked on behalf of fans. Elliott made a fool of himself.

October 6, 2023 at 8:38 pm in reply to: This saga is unending but I hope it resolves like this #274874Yes!.I’ll say it again, look in the Bru news archive it’s there for all to see.
Yes, I remember the article. I was asking whether you know for certain that what I said is incorrect.
October 6, 2023 at 8:23 pm in reply to: This saga is unending but I hope it resolves like this #274869“Gazumped” now that’s a downright lie. Link in Iron Bru news archive, they withdrew from buying the club on the 19th January way before we’d even heard the name David Hilton.
You know for certain, do you?
October 6, 2023 at 7:50 pm in reply to: This saga is unending but I hope it resolves like this #274863No, you’re right and his true colours have been revealed. However, had he not stepped in in January where would we be now. He bought us some time.
… my point being, if they ‘save us’ now then they would have done the same back then, though there would have been much less saving to do.
Wait for The Athletic’s next article for an appraisal of the situation resulting from the damage done by Hilton – although Matt Slater gave a précis on Twitter.

We now have (more or less) the board we would have had in January, before Hilton gazumped…

October 6, 2023 at 5:47 pm in reply to: This saga is unending but I hope it resolves like this #274849I wonder if the narrative that honest Dave was trying to save the club will last after The Athletic part 2. I suspect such claims will lookeven sillier.
He will have absolutely zero credibility, the misguided notion that he was trying to save the club will be totally blown out of the water – and many of those who cling to it like a pride-raft for their ego are going to struggle to cope.

I’m looking forward to The Athletic’s article – and seeing the clown flail while trying to stave off implosion.
That’s a point, will be interesting to see how long the ” Land acquired by SUFC ” signs stay up on that land off Warren Road? Quite ironically it’s not too far from Michelle’s business in town.
It still amazes me that some people think this land was actually bought and paid for.
