Only you and Butler think Pat Jones is a WB (I hope)
Do you have inside info on 3-5-2 for next season? With Chester, strike rate one goal per four games.
Not quite achieving that with us.
Why not?
And does anyone remember the other guy we bought from Chorley as a striker/winger?
He didn’t score as he had before coming to us…why not?
What are we doing wrong?May 4, 2026 at 6:50 pm #320394Connor Smith 1 in 5 at Hamilton this season!

Not played much.
Here, I mean.May 4, 2026 at 7:41 pm #320399Played 14 games for us.
Could have been a hero for us yesterday we know he’s got the ability, but only if in the squad instead of a goalie.1 user thanked author for this post.
May 4, 2026 at 8:40 pm #320400Connor Smith has been a dreadul signing so far. I hope he improves for next season.
At the back is more important. Barrows or Jb needs releasing as we have Rose, Starbuck, Jb and Barrows for RB.Maybe Keep JB and have him as a back up option CB against teams with pace ?. Next season if we ever did switch to wing backs, Jb could fit in well flying down the right side. Defensively questionable, but is Barrows much better ?
I think JB would offer more versatility as a squad option.
If we’re unable to sign Westbrooke, we may even stick Rose in CM with Beestin and Rowley. He looked good there before going off crocked.
May 5, 2026 at 9:54 am #320410442 with Whitehall and Howe up top, see how we get on after the first month. We looked very dangerous at Halifax when Butler changed the formation to get the win when Howe came on.
How different might have Rochdale been if we’d retained either Farrell or TSF. I’d be asking about TSF again next season, I know he sacked us off for the cods, but looked way too good for this division.
May 5, 2026 at 10:06 am #320411I doubt it was his decision. He made little impact at the Cods albeit with limited opportunity. Maybe NL is his chance to shine?
May 5, 2026 at 10:13 am #320412I don’t think another striker will be coming in unless there’s injury or loan outs for either Whitehall or Howe. Just based on last season and Butler’s recent comments.
May 5, 2026 at 10:29 am #320413You would think freeing up space by letting Dawson and Beck go plus Carlton having gone would give us room for another decent striker. To get out of this division we’ll need goals, and a lot of them.
May 5, 2026 at 10:31 am #320414The problem is that we have no substitute for Whitehall, Howe is a different type altogether. I mentioned on another thread our lack of physical presence and, IMO, it’s something we need to address. Without Whitehall we lack a focal point up front and, as his fitness for a 50 or so games a season is not assured, I think an alternative is vital.

May 5, 2026 at 10:34 am #320415A couple of months ago Howe wasn’t even in Butler’s plans, I hope he is now. And I hope Scunny is in Howes plans, I’m sure plenty of clubs have him on their radar so he’ll probably need a bit more from Butler for him not to push for a move somewhere else.
You can’t run a season long squad starting off with just the 2 strikers Deerey, that’s why I said it would be frightening if we did.
I know your basing it on what Butler said to on the Sharp interview but surely he was only referring to sharp himself.May 5, 2026 at 12:21 pm #320419Don’t get me wrong, I think we need another decent striker too. Just saying I’m not convinced that’s part of a plan. Hope I’m wrong.
May 5, 2026 at 12:43 pm #320421We went into this season with 5 strikers so I’d be very surprised if we went into next with only 2. Can’t see Dawson and Beck hanging around, not sure if JD is out of contract but Beck definitely is.
