Well I have to admit to not checking the starting eleven of the other top 6 clubs for weeks on end. I assume you have? Are you saying they’ve not made any changes? How many changes constitutes a ‘weakened’ team? 2, 3, 4, 5, 6? I assume you know and it’s not merely ‘hot air’?
I don’t take much of what he says in interviews that seriously tbh.
April 22, 2026 at 2:08 pm #319665Personally I’d like to see us play full strength and get a decent win but I can’t see it happening.
I think he’ll start Mahady in goal – won’t want Jones to drop a pre eliminator clanger.
Defence – Scales, Boyce, Horton, Barrows
Midfield – Denton, Brogan, Beestin
Forwards – Dausch, Howe, SmithSubs – L Jones, Evans, Rowley, Ewing, P Jones, Belehouan, Beck
I’m assuming Beck and Brogan are back ? AB said everyone being recalled.
I knew I wouldn’t be the only one hoping he plays a full strength side. I’d rather they had the game time and build some momentum going in to the play offs. Don’t want rustiness.
Hope he doesn’t play Mahady. Stick with Jones for consistency.
April 22, 2026 at 2:26 pm #319666Well we made 7 against Gateshead Deerey.
But there’s no set number for any team more the key players you leave out.
Example, leaving your 2 top goalscorers out of the first 11 when you’ve had an 11 game unbeaten start to the season. Bet you can’t tell me what happened next.

April 22, 2026 at 2:30 pm #319667Butler will be between a rock n a hard place when choosing his line up for Saturday ..
pick his first string 11 and anyone gets injured and misses the play off games and he will be lambasted .. alternatively send out all the fringe players and loose ALA Gateshead and confidence may be effected and he will be lambasted … he has to find a happy medium ..NOT EASY.One thing thats pretty much nailed on is if my prediction of loosing the play off Eliminator next Tuesday comes to fruition we can be ready for the SUFCFB group to be inundated with comments such as
It was a great season regardless of loosing
Butler has performed miracles
We overachieved with such a small budget
If we had been offered 5th place and play offs at the start of the season everyone would have bla bla bla
The terrible Pitch cost us
Toxic Iron Bru caused so much negativity*********
And the old chestnut and my favourite … We nearly nearly didnt have a club , i think this one will be repeated for at least the next 20 years.UTI

This.
100%April 22, 2026 at 3:33 pm #319670Pretty much all true IFA apart from the toxic bru line, we are all ace on this forum.
April 22, 2026 at 4:10 pm #319672We really can’t afford to have any key players injured on that pitch.
BTW – how is Cal’s injury, do we know?April 22, 2026 at 4:34 pm #319674Post match Butler said substitution was precautionary and he’d be OK to train on Tuesday. Would expect to be kept in the dark until Tuesday’s team is announced.
April 22, 2026 at 4:47 pm #319675Lol, guaranteed Butler fields a very weakened side on Saturday and we get beat on Tuesday and there will be plenty of those that said ‘field a weakened side!’ blaming Butler for fielding a weakened side. Fickleness demands it. Which was my original point.
April 22, 2026 at 5:07 pm #319677The ability to field a full strength side on Tuesday should be Butlers only aim. He’ll get more grief for failing to do that, unless we still win of course, then for anything he does on Saturday.
April 22, 2026 at 5:22 pm #319678From Butler Out Boys, if he’s not getting grief, the most he ever gets is begrudging acceptance that he may have done a few things right.
Someone rested on Saturday pulls up with a hamstring on Tuesday: ‘bloody Butler’s fault for resting him too long!’. If there was a credible way to blame him for the pitch, some would be trying it.
That any bit of praise for Butler is seen as ‘happy clapping’, ‘a*** licking’, etc, is as delusional as those that can see him doing no wrong. Which isn’t me I should add, though no doubt someone will lazily claim it as per.
April 22, 2026 at 5:54 pm #319683TBF Deerey the ‘Butler Out’ boys are few and far between. Sure he gets plenty of criticism. not many football managers don’t, but I can’t recall seeing many posts wanting him gone. It’s his attitude rather than performance that seems to upset some.
April 22, 2026 at 5:59 pm #319684Adkins didn’t used to get grief when playing weakened teams when trying to keep us in the in the championship, which he did, mind you he did tell us that was what he was doing and why he was doing it.
Don’t mind a weakened team in the fa trophy game and getting out of it, but once we’ve got through 2 rounds and the quarter finals in sight to then play another weakened team just doesn’t make sense.
Saturday playing a weakened team makes sense certainly if the Gateshead game did to him when we’d finally got rid of mid week games.
It’s only Butler’s bizarre decisions at times that Butler gets grief, from his subs, his belief that we didn’t need a number 1 goalie during pre season, is teams continually conceding in added time and costing us dear, his team selections, his criticism of fans.
It’s only the same as most managers get from forum’s and inside grounds all the way round the country,April 22, 2026 at 6:07 pm #319685I think those are fair comments in the last two posts. Probably seen more Butler Out comments or ‘I never wanted him in the first place!’ reactions to decisions or outcomes on X. They are out there though, for sure.

April 22, 2026 at 6:43 pm #319690I didn’t think Butler should have been appointed in the first place. However, despite the fact that I don’t like him (and I loved him as a player), he has done a decent job. That said, he does not conduct himself well, he has made many a mistake with major positions – keeper, strikers, wingers – but we are still in a position to go up.
Personally, I think we should be going with a full team for the rest of the season. We need to get the positivity flowing.
April 22, 2026 at 6:54 pm #319692I think it unlikely anyone still prepared to post on the corpse of Twitter has anything credible to say about Butler – or anything else.
Just an opinion obviously. People are welcome to spout lies and vitriol on any platform of their choosing.
April 22, 2026 at 6:56 pm #319693Very true.
April 22, 2026 at 7:48 pm #319697York, Rochdale, Carlisle. 4/5 changes = squad rotation.
Iron 4/5 changes = weakened team!

April 22, 2026 at 8:26 pm #319698Realistically, with our squad, we can only make 2 or 3 changes before the team becomes weaker.

That’s the difference in budget for you nothing more.
April 22, 2026 at 10:15 pm #319701We can’t make 1 change without weakening the side if that change involves Roberts, Rowley, Whitehall or Evans.
April 22, 2026 at 10:19 pm #319702Agreed
April 25, 2026 at 12:16 pm #319798Very strong lineup, here’s hoping.
