I suspect he’s chosen tonight’s match to properly run the rule over the 1st team players. Green if he wasn’t injured will be in for a harsh lesson because he was subbed fairly early on for Loft.
I said yesterday that Loft and Scrimshaw will score if delivery is good into them. If we does go 4/4/2 I’d go O’Malley and Wilson on the wings…least the pair of them can cross a ball.
Dare I say it, we looked more settled when Kenyon came on. Going back to Scrimshaw and Loft…the pair of them have shown they can finish so if Hill can drill the players to put some good balls into them, then you never know.
Scrimshaw at times has showed he has some calmness in front of goal.
So did Wilson get a start?
Any game time?If not, says it all really.
Let’s just stick with the guys who can’t/won’t, dhy don’t we?The team was already pre picked and Hill went with it. I suspect once Hill’s had a look, we’ll be seeing more of him.
I still can’t fathom why Cox wouldn’t play him !
Bit hard to believe we’d bag Eaves but on paper he’d be the Hill speciality Big N Nasty.
I don’t think Hippolyte was injured either. Hill probably saw what we’ve all seen from him out wide and thought “he’s shite, I’ll try somebody else”
If true about what Hill supposedly said, it will explain why he brought him on and then took him off again.
People are writing Green off but he showed in spells last season that there is a player in there, it’s just getting him to believe in himself.
Green is quick but never uses his pace at all. All he has to do is knock the ball past his man and run forward. I doubt many would catch him.
If Hill can somehow drum it in to Green to fully utilize his pace to effect games, I still think he could be useful. I wouldn’t class Green as a Hippolyte type player by any means.
Maybe I’m wrong, we’ll have to wait and see.
Green on left and Wilson on the right wing would be pretty positive or bring Thompson in and put O’Malley on the left wing.
We could do with a few new wingers come January…among other players.
Hill will have to do some shrewd wheeling and dealing.
I firmly believe barton that if we’re properly organised and get decent quality into the box Scrimshaw and Loft will score.
I think Loft has already moved on in his own head. Didn’t he say not long back that he was looking to move on in January ?
If we get the CM pairing right then we’ll be a step closer. Hackney to be fair to him is stepping up though.
Out wide is the problem though. I wouldn’t go with Hippolyte on the left. I’d either go with Wilson on the right and stick Green on the left or move O’Malley up one and stick him on the wing.
Hippolyte did fairly alright in CM but you can’t play him out wide, he’s dreadful.
What do you say about Bunn ?. Complete piss take, not his fault he’s a crock but he needs moving on in Jan for somebody who’s actually able to stay fit.
Is Kenyon crocked again ?. I read he played 70 mins in that behind closed doors game the other week and yet he’s wasn’t even involved in the squad.
One thing Hill did say post match was that he wanted us to press and we managed it for 30 minutes, in other words the team is nowhere near fit enough.
I wonder what Cox was doing with them because we’ve seen it all season where we manage to look good in spells and the teams legs just go.
Very odd. I said above Hill hinted we aren’t fit enough so good luck to the players, I have a feeling he’s going to flog them something rotten in a bid to get them up to speed.
Let’s face it….they certainly need it.
I don’t care if it’s league two, your team should not press properly at a high intensity and be cream crackered after 30 minutes.

Came Jan if Swann sorts the embargo out and we get a big n nasty, LW, RW and experienced DCM in the club, we may be alright come the end of the season.
Calvin Andrew is at Barrow I think. I did suspect Swann would have to sack off Lillis and Cox and use their wages for Hill and have McMahon step up. That always made sense to me anyway.
What I’ve read further backs up what I thought about Hill. Hill doesn’t take any shit whatsoever..get’s in peoples faces, tells home truths and will be kicking some of these up the arse if they don’t watch it.
We’ll soon see who’s up for the fight and who sulks because he’ll dig whoever they are out pretty quickly.
The poster who claimed Swann will be tired of involving himself in the football side of it now is spot on because if you were heavily involved, he would the last person a chairman would appoint.
Posters will moan about style of football but all I care about is staying up at this moment in time so if we have to resort to his old Rochdale tactics of direct football to a target man, play percentage football and look for second balls, get plenty of balls in the box and play with a bit of aggression while being really well organized…so be it.
I’m not really a fan of that style but needs must and if it helps us, then fair enough.
One thing that would be the sticking point in lack of a proper big n nasty.
Will Loft be able to add that physical side to his game ?
We’ll have to see. Hill will be wanting that from him and that’s what’s been missing for me, he’s big and has strength but never really has used it.
Green’s the same in the sense has blistering pace but never really utilizes it.

Hallam and Bunn are genuine crocks. Hallam has been forever injured since he’s been here and Bunn before he came here was a crock and again has been injured for the most part since he’s been here.
O’Neil doesn’t fit in this category but he fits in the “not fit to play league football category”
so he kind of qualifies.2 users thanked author for this post.
Not convinced that hoof ball is the way to go
Who gives a crap ?. Look, if we play that way and stay up then I’d be all for it. In an ideal world we’d play good football but needs must at the moment, we need to stay up by any means necessary.
I remember the Rochdale sides under Hill and they were anything but silky but what they lacked in finesse they were difficult to play against, effective at what they did and were very well organized.
I’d take that at this present time. Questionable thought until January as were missing a big n nasty.
Out wide on the left I’d play O’Malley beestin pugh in the middle and Wilson on the right. I’d play Scrimshaw with Loft but if Scrimshaw doesn’t show more I’d stick Wilson upfront off loft and stick Green on the right.
I still think there’s a player in Green if the manager drills it in to him that he needs to use his pace. Green in reality just needs to knock the ball forward and run his man on the outside.
I doubt many would catch him at this level.
I’d start Rowe instead of Millen at RB as Millen can’t really defend. Taft and Manny at CB. I don’t rate Davis at all.
I can’t see it working for Scunthorpe United being big and nasty with the players we have now. If the system means hoofing the ball up who would win the ball up front
I said the same the other day that we haven’t got that type of striker but you can bet that if it is Hill that comes in, he’ll be bringing 1 in come January.
I think we always did need a big and nasty striker anyway to ruffle feathers, at times we’re too nice to play against.
If Scunny do OK in the next 2 matches, don’t rule out an extension of McMahon in charge, it has happened a few previous times by Mr Swann.
I doubt it. Swann admittedly has talked a lot of rubbish but he was pretty steadfast against giving McMahon the job when asked.
The old Swannster said he’ll know more this weekend in regards to the manager, which means he’ll has probably already picked some from whoever has applied and has probably interviewed some already.
I suspect we’ll have one in this time next week. I know he’s away with the fairies at times but even he knows we need somebody in sharpish.
I just hope to god it’s not a no mark who comes in.
Could you imagine if Adkins and Crosby were appointed ?
I have a hunch it will be Keith Hill though, if anybody will turn this around it will take somebody of that ilk who’s done similar before.
Lancsiron, Calvin Andrew is at Barrow isn’t he ?
If it is Hill who does arrive then expect a big and nasty battering ram upfront and umpteen crossed swung in, he did it at Rochdale.
I remember them being awful to play against. They were never a true footballing side but they were always rough as shite, very hard working and well organized.
All 3 traits we desperately need.
A lot of deadwood needs trimming first from the playing squad…
Bunn “always injured”
Hallam “same as Bunn”
O’Neil “utter crap”
Hackney will probably go back as well come January “is he better than Perry, Beestin, Pugh ?”
I’d send wood back as well and get that cut short “rather have Gallimore in the mix”A big n nasty striker
Left winger
experienced DCM player “who’s actually mobile”
Right wingerThat’s another thing about Hill, he’s a bit of a wheeler and dealer as well..quite astute in transfer market. Hill had to be he worked on a shoestring budget for I don’t know how long at Rochdale.

Wasn’t he talking about Jimmy Hill though ?
The next manager needs to move on Bunn and Hallam. Hallam’s forever breaking down and never seems to fit in despite being talented and Bunn is a sick note through and through.
That will free up the treatment table somewhat.

Was always Hill and Adkins for me. What is good about Hill is the fact he’s had nothing really to work with before at Rochdale and always kept them competitive for the most part.
I will say though his teams play percentage hoof ball football, effective but it’s not good on the eye. The position we’re in though, I’d take it.
I always remember he had Calvin Andrew as a big n nasty and played old stoke style hoof ball…very direct and just went for the knock downs.
I wouldn’t call Loft a big and nasty, we haven’t got a genuine big and nasty battering ram at the club.

I’d put that option down in the “cheap route” column.

Well he needs to piss off anyway. I’m sure a poster off here can scour football manager free transfer lists.
It’s about time we got a proper scout in.
I also think Swann needs to sack Swannster Junior and get a proper scout in.

David O’Leary
Wilson is obviously unproven but at u18’s he sticks out as if he doesn’t even belong at that level. Only a matter of time before he’s spotted, if he hasn’t been already.
Couple that evidence with the fact he was the most promising player in pre season, it’s crystal clear that he should be getting game time.
u18’s showed he’s really good upfront running in behind, he has a bit of everything.
If we don’t watch it he’ll end up another Joey Dawson.

I would like to see Tom Newey as the manager
Couldn’t think of anything more silly. Newey gives good analysis during commentary, post and pre match but has no experience in management.
Our league existence literally is dangling by a thread, we need somebody who’s managed before and who’s gotten teams out of the shit before.
This is our last chance now to hopefully saving the season and that starts with appointing the right manager for the job.
Keith Hill, Adkins and Paul Tisdale are the 3 I’d choose between.
Difficult to pick between Hill and Adkins. Hill has been in similar positions before and done the business where as Adkins will bring his positivity and undeniable enthusiasm which may breath life into the club so torn between those two.
Tisdale has a decent enough track record so he would be 3rd choice for me. Anybody else signs and Swann goes the cheap route, we may as well not bother for the rest of the season.

Have you always been a complete and utter penis Yossarian ?
You’re not one of Badapples classy creations are you by any chance ?
For me, he’d be a fool to come back here
Maybe so but apart from him and Keith Hill we may as well give up and just accept our non league fate.
There is a risk it could horribly backfire on Adkins but we need some divine inspiration and if he can supply it, we have to try.

Who gives a shite about any of that, I’d rather he paid the loan up and get rid of this bloody transfer embargo currently slapped on us and sorted the squad out.
Get rid of the injury prone bunn and up to press Kenyon and the utter dross O’neil for starters.
Much more important than ground improvements anyway, not going to be worth crap all if we’re non league next season.

I think Hallam is fit Cassidy. I could be wrong but wasn’t he in full training last week ?
“I don’t know why you bother trying to break games down anymore wondergoals”.
I like a moan, especially when it’s warranted..a huge part of that is highlighting the utter incompetence.
I know people have eyes and will already know but it makes me feel better venting it !
It was comical though seeing Davis, Manny and Taft all marking Sears.
What made it even more daft was due to them 3 playing too deep Thompson and Millen were sometimes tracking back as well to cover mostly 1 player and there was only Sears along with their winger who ran into the area all 5 were marking and still let two goals in lol

Why do we wait until we are two goals behind before we decide to attack, pathetic
I’ve always said the same. Cox sets the team up so conservatively that we always concede ground and goals.
Cox will only go more adventurous usually when it’s too late. No excuse, second half when we were more positive we had the upper hand…. they weren’t even a good side.
Also if Cox thought they were going with 2 up top, why the hell didn’t he quickly change it as 3 CB’s and sometimes wing backs were marking space all around Sears when only he was ever really running into.
Never seen anything so bloody stupid. Cox should have took Davis off who was complete shite again and either stick Beestin in central midfield to bulk it up or put Jarvis on in the no 10 role because to be fair to him he has got a good touch on him.
Also, Why did Cox include O’Neil on the bench in expense of Hallam ?
I don’t quite understand that personally. I thought he looked good upfront with Loft against Donny, is pretty good in no 10 role and can do a job in CM and is better in all those positions than O’neil is as a striker.
I don’t get the thought process as we already had Jarvis on the bench, who is again better than O’Neil.

Pugh has made a difference and dove tails well with Hippolyte and Hackney, all cover a lot of ground, hardworking and can play a bit at times.
Everybody has seen enough of league 2 to know that as long as you’re organised and have an energetic team who cover a lot of ground then you’re always in with a chance.
Early days yet but the I like the balance in there with those 3.
Cox saw Pugh as a RB too.
Absolute Madness !
