    Agreed.
Ref did Shrimpton a favour, he could have had 4 yellows. Wilson has just given up, ridiculous slide for his booking it looked like he was trying for a red card to miss Dorking but got it wrong and only got a yellow.

I’ll stand there to show them I am actually bothered. Would be nice if whoever gets a shirt puts a shift in and maybe spoil Southends slim play off hopes…..

All players make mistakes. I thought that Solihull clanger was good quick thinking by the Solihull player as much as it was a keeper mistake.
If the players are so flaky that one mistake causes them to collapse in a game then that backs up what some people on here are saying. Players and management giving up after reading negativity on the internet is even more worrying. Social media, forums etc is the Wild West I wouldn’t be looking at it and allowing it to affect me if I was involved in professional sport.

No it isn’t good, which is why I hadn’t got involved with this thread until now, and why I personally keep off social media and only came on here recently.
Notts took us apart unfortunately, and it’s hard to take when you’ve watched us play league football for decades, and believe me we have been extremely poor in the past but I don’t recall any Iron team this bad.
I know people in Grimsby and with the genuine supporters there is a healthy local rivalry not the bile you get on here or Twitter.
I hope Mr Hilton succeeds, and Jimmy Dean comes good next season.

Sorry Patrick but 5 points from safety with 18 games to go was not “you were going down anyway “. We had a good chance of staying up, Nelson had a team at least battling away for each other and picking up results. My view is we didn’t need Dean or the wholesale movement of so many players, but it is only an opinion and people on here have been quite happy with the changes and disagree with the likes of me.
If we were going down anyway why change anything ?
I’ve been at the games supporting Jimmy Dean and his team but they just imploded after Notts County. Losing is one thing but the performances have been dire, they just lay down and give up.
Unlucky losing Chapman to injury but is Billson, who has played about 6 league games ever (most of them for us) better than Foster ? It turns out Dean has only managed at NLN level for half a season and said himself he’s never been involved with a relegation battle at any level. So is it Deans fault ? I don’t think so. Is it Mr Hiltons ? He bought the club he can do, and has done, whatever he likes, change the manager and loads of players – that is fine but on a football forum people are going to discuss their opinions. Even Liverpool, Arsenal, Man U etc fans will be bickering and moaning about what they think is best it, is what fans do.

Enjoyed Carvers square up to Clark near the end, I’d have given him MOTM just for that but unfortunately it was Shrimptons family making the choice. Other than that, utter Dross. Bennett spent more time on the floor than the ball. Bilson wouldn’t get into an U16s with his kicking and the less said about his flap and take out for their pen the better.
Radio Humbs twisted the knife on the drive home by interviewing Liam Rosenior after Dean, talk about chalk and cheese – everything you’d want to hear from a manager with Rosenior.

Interested Bystander – The alarm bell is already ringing for me and with some others but it seems the majority are relieved the club seems to be saved and don’t want to look too deep and are happy to accept what he says. Time will tell.

And like for like with Nelson? your manager of choice,Please bare in mind Nelson had Laverey at his best,

Nelson had to manage against Notts, Chesterfield twice and Woking all at the top of the league. No Lavery against Halifax and Bromley. That team was almost immediately deemed not good enough by the new management and 50% of the players dropped or loaned out. Aside from 2 games, Wrexham and Notts away Deans team have played against similar dross teams to us and not got results.

Have a listen to that interview, he doesn’t have hardly any experience of NLN and not much of the leagues below. It’s a bigger leap than if Adkins had gone straight to a premier league side. Adkins had also had a career of being a league player, manager at Bangor, working alongside decent managers and coaches when he was physio and had coaching qualifications.

This isn’t actually Dean’s fault. Hilton gambled on appointing him and he had to take the opportunity. Apologies if this podcast has been linked before but it is an interview with Dean in August 2022. He comes across as an honest guy who is very realistic about football at non league level and managing to get a team the size of Peterborough Sports promoted to NLN.
By his own admission he was looking at survival being a success this season for Sports, and mid table being a good success. He admits that he didn’t know National League North level enough yet. Half a season later he’s Scunthorpe United manager in the league above that. I won’t criticise him any more, in my opinion he needed to finish the season at Peterborough and then move to a bigger NLN or NLS club and get some more experience. Far too many players have been changed too far into the season for any chance of being a team, you can see they don’t know enough about each other on the pitch. He’s been thrown into a situation and it isn’t working out and that is Hilton’s mistake not Deans.
Link to the podcast, sorry again if it’s old news I’m not trawling 3 months of Bru to check !

And yet 5 wins and we finish on 49 points which ought to be enough to stay up. I wish I hadn’t seen how we played against County, York and Torquay.
I hope Dean can pull off a miracle and prove me wrong!

I’m glad that day to day football activity will not be at Ilkeston. I hope that some sort of academy will continue, it certainly sounds like Mr H is prepared to try and facilitate it. I still don’t fully get what is going on, it all seems to be on the hoof but hopefully the situation with Glanford Park will be resolved by the end of May.

people can expect a refund on any purchases if not satisfied,it’s not up to Hilton

I don’t know. If you buy a toaster from Curry’s, then you can probably take it back.
Not sure on something like this. I’d be taking my Torquay ticket back if it was that easy !
You wouldn’t buy a house without a survey or a business without some legal and accounting advice. With this 1899 thing what does it even come under ? A club, a lottery, a 999 year timeshare ? I don’t know.
As I understand it, GP still belongs to Swanns company, Hilton is buying it and has set up the 1899 club to own the stadium once he has separated off the surrounding land in order to sell it, so what has anyone whose paid £1899 actually bought ?
    There’s more questions than answers.

And the only ones causing the division are?

I don’t think anyone is causing division, it’s football – people have opinions whether about management, players, formations, refs or how green the mushy peas are on their pie. The majority seem happy with Mr Hilton buying the club and his recent explanations about what is going to happen, fair enough.
Personally I’m disappointed that the immediate plan is to run it as an NLN club with the entire day to day infrastructure based 70 miles away. I would have preferred it if the owner presented the club as a previously mismanaged League club, which has fallen to this depth but is now planning to get the heck back up as soon as possible, not experimenting with cast off Midlands academy players. But he isn’t and he doesn’t have to, he’s bought it.
I’m sad for youngsters from the area that there won’t be an academy. It isn’t just about producing the next big money sell on, it is a major link between community and club.
I don’t buy the Ilkeston move reasons. I get that Mr Hilton is obviously proud of what’s been done at Ilkeston but honestly I’m not interested in seeing it any more than I am at looking at Nottingham Forest’s or Tottenham’s.
Sorry but from the Nelson radio interview, Dean, bizarre player comings and goings, rumours, twitter abandoned, rumours confirmed, academy closed by internet announcement to the Ilkeston move I have to say I am very worried, and that sir is my opinion.

I’ll give you a conspiracy theory – Hilton can’t afford/doesn’t want to run Scunthorpe above NLN. Buys the club when relegation was probably a foregone conclusion and HMRC etc were circling, he immediately parachutes a non league manager straight in as Nelson was starting to get a tune out of it, sends Whitehead, O’Malley etc out on loan brings players in, then moves them out or they don’t get played again if they appear to be any good. Then once it is finally clear that, barring a mathematical miracle we are actually down, announces everything other than actual match day is being closed or relocated to Ilkeston, which is 70 miles away and where he has already built up a seemingly good football base and also where he presumably lives near.

    That’s a conspiracy theory.

What is presented to us is that short term whilst everything is sorted out, facilities built in Scunthorpe, team rebuilt to return to NL and push for FL, GP purchase finalised and surrounding land sold off the academy will close and training and all day to day stuff will move to Ilkeston because it’s better there. And this will be the case for an unspecified length of time.

    That isn’t a conspiracy theory.

I want, and I mean really want, it all to spin out like Hilton says. But I fear ReneArtois is correct and we are the next MK Dons, well Ilkeston are, we are the next Wimbledon.
The training facilities have supported leagues footballers for years. Improve the drainage, build a new facility on the car park and training pitch. At least identify a site in Scunthorpe first then temporarily move to Ilkeston whilst it is built. I’m afraid he hasn’t got enough money or hasn’t got the will to keep things at Scunthorpe and this is the plan all along. If he’d come in on day 1 and said all this what would everyone have thought ? If the ground deal doesn’t complete where are we ? Renting off Swann or travelling to a ground share at Ilkeston ?
I’m more than happy to come on here in 5 years time, say I’m a miserable cynic and have a profile picture of a clown with egg on his face but I am genuinely worried.

Ilkeston is a better location to attract players ? Why ever move the base back here then …? 70 miles added to Nelson’s commute so an extra 140 miles on the round trip for him. I get the cloth cutting but moving to Ilkeston doesn’t sit well for me. But hey ho, I haven’t bought the club he has. I just hope that ringing alarm bell I keep hearing goes away.

Dean, and the team have had good support at the actual games. To be honest the atmosphere at GP has been fantastic and the away games I’ve been to have had a brilliant following with positive support to the very end. It’s just obvious that this is a level too far. I didn’t expect us to beat Notts (although Dagenham did…) but they completely took us apart and barely worked up a sweat. I just can’t believe they have whimpered out against York and Torquay, they were 2 games to properly go for it and if we lost at least go out fighting. 1 point was no longer enough.
