He would do nicely Cass. Hardly had a sniff at Donny.
Agree that’s the kind of player we are lacking. When plan A isn’t working and you want 2 genuine strikers. Whitehall and Elliott want the same balls and the same space.
Dean was cagey the other day about 1 more signing. If they do I hope that is the kind of player they are looking for.
I think Poulter will become that player in time but for this season I would prefer him on loan at the likes of Ilkeston or Gainsborough so he can get a decent amount of games in mens football.
I pretty much agree with you Bill on where our weakness could be.
Without switching to a 4-4-2 I don’t think we will get a traditional front 2. In what seems to be Dean’s favoured 4-3-3 the key for me is whoever ends up playing furthest forward of the midfield 3 – the number 10 position if you like. We are going to need double figures of goals from that slot with the other midfielders pitching in with 5 or 6.
At the minute that looks like Scales or Beeston (possibly Butterfield?) will get that slot.
Also Wilson and Roberts will have to become the second striker when the ball comes in from the other side.
Whitehall and Elliott’s records suggest they could get 20 in a good side at this level but of course in this system only 1 is likely to be on the pitch at any given time.
Seen both and my initial thoughts are that nobody has disappointed. For the first time in at least 5 seasons we have a group of players prepared to support one another and do the ugly stuff. Early days of course but allied to a bit of quality I am cautiously optimistic.
Of the new lads 2 or 3 particularly stand out.
Fitzsimons looks and acts like a proper keeper- even when he has little to do as in the Donny game he keeps his concentration and is sharp when needed. Chapman is decent and did little wrong against Hull but has a tendency to switch off. Fitzsimons to start with Chapman as strong back up. Both significant upgrades on Watson and the gaggle of loanees.
Kouogan looks good, strong competitive and a bit of pace. Not afraid of the ball and can hit a decent long pass. First choice centre back on what he has shown so far. Evan’s looks decent but Boyce also looking much better with a bit of pace next to him. Toss up with those 2 who partners Kouogan.
Kelly and Denton both energetic and consistent at left back.
In midfield Clunan looks a quality player. If he had gone full time sooner would have made 2 or 3 levels higher than this. Constantly talking to team mates and organising things. Will be surprised if he is not made captain. Also “works” the ref which is something we have not had since Dawson. Scales shows some nice touches and his first inclination is forward which I like.
Up front Whitehall is a proper centre forward – defenders and opposition fans will hate him. He is no Torpey but from the same mould and should be really effective at this level. Probably won’t get as many goals as we would like but will occupy centre backs all game and leave gaps for others. Elliot will probably have to play second fiddle in a 4-3-3 but is looking fitter and livelier than last season and should be able to take advantage of defenders for 20/30 minutes once Whitehall has softened them up.
Robert’s has plenty of skill and class. Will either be player of the season or take Hallam’s spot on the physios table. Would be nowhere near this level if it was not for his injury record.
Laws shows promise but won’t get in ahead of a fit Roberts.
Of the existing players Ogle will play when fit. Shrimpton looks ready to step up a level this season as does Wilson and I expect both will feature heavily.
Butterfield has obvious class but not sure he fits with Dean’s approach and tactics which seems to be poor man’s Klopp.
Beeston might cope with that but probably needs to pick his position and stick to it.

Not open yet. Trip Advisor quotes the bar/restaurant part which had previously opened without the hotel part is now permanently closed.
If Swann said it it will be true then.
At the fans forum he stated he was not and never has been a property developer. He buys and sells land.
Mind you the previous owner stated he was a property developer but I am unable to find evidence of any successfully developed properties.
2 or 3 missing but still a decent enough side on paper. 2 or 3 from our probable starting 11 not involved either. I see Rosenior has given them a public bollocking which probably confirms we did OK.
Floodlights failing and electricity supply failure another 2. There must have been a bomb scare or 2 as well.
Not enough players left due to red cards and injuries. More common in South America but I vaguely remember it happening here.

4-3-3 pretty much as at Gainsborough and Ilkeston so seems this is Jimmy’s go to formation.
Whole team worked very hard at closing down a Hull side that take playing out from the back to extremes.

The Hartlepool game was at the OSG. Game definitely didn’t finish but I cannot remember if it actually started. In my defence it was over 50 years ago.
Not to mention the revenue trade off created by 1899 “free” season tickets. My estimate is £600-£700k but feel free to correct me if my maths is incorrect.
How mutch has he spent while he has been here?
Don’t let the facts get in the way of you abuse adorned opinions.
The fog game was against Hartlepool.

If Hilton had paid Swann’s price for land and stadium and sold every 1899 club membership he would still be out by a 7 figure sum.
You have made your point you don’t like Hilton but at least try and justify it with facts instead of bullshit.

Based on seeing 3 of the friendlies I would say:
Fitz – definitely No 1
Ogle – probably right back but will have to play well to keep Barrows out
Kelly – left back
Kouogan and either Evans or Boyce CBs
Clunan – only definite midfield starter for me so far and captain. So many to choose from here.
Front 3 Roberts, Whitehall and WilsonNational League will cover Saturday games for international punters as they did for the second half of last season.
Not doing NLN Saturday games though.
No idea if Humberside will be doing radio commentaries though.
I think it was on Twitter – National League Saturday games will be available to international punters (or VPN users) but NLN & NLS will not. Shame but cannot expect much else at the level we are at now.

Just out of interest IB what is it you are wanting Iron fans to do about this information you share with us?
No they will be on http://www.nationalleaguetv.com
I think you will be able to get the evening games and Bank Holiday games but not the Saturday 15:00 games except International break weekends.
They show National League Saturday 15:00 games for international subscribers but seems they are not going to do this for NLN & NLS.

I saw it and you are correct in your assumption, IA.
In fairness, I left the moderators with little choice when I asked MK IRON to clarify which surname the Ilkeston fans were happy with. Rest assured there’s no need for 64 to panic, he’s in safe hands with me.
I called him David Hilton and they all seemed to know who I meant.
Possibly starting to see Dean’s thoughts on his first 11.
Only Denton, Boyce and Wilson from the Ilkeston starting 11 in the first half team this evening. Still too sharp for Trinity and while they didn’t create an awful lot they didn’t give the opposition much of a sniff. Clunan and Kelly came on at half time and the Iron started to dominate. Ogle played 1st half but understandably rusty and a bit off the pace.
While each second half substitution seemed to strengthen the Iron the opposite happened to Gainsborough. Some decent play in the second half and Chapman not really having to make a save.
Decent performance but it will be interesting how well we compete from Saturday onwards when we start playing against full timers.
Obviously Humberside Sport keep an eye on Bru. No mentions for the Iron for weeks and all of a sudden we have a preview of tonight’s Gainsborough friendly.
Glad they have realised we are still here.
Choosing which media he engages with and ignoring the mainstream media.
Who does he think he is? A Tory Prime Minister?
Just for info our last Chairman banned the local paper for years.

Thanks for the umpteenth rehash of your “He used to be the Devil” story.
If you think Hilton has done anything illegal then take your evidence to the police and have done with it.
My only interest in David Hilton is in what he has done and intends to do as owner of our football club.
The reason I went to Ilkeston on Saturday was to judge for myself his past history and record as an owner of a football club. Everything I saw and heard in that regard was 100% positive. If that does not fit the narrative and agendas of the cult of anti Hilton I don’t give a monkeys.
Does our local radio cover the Iron anymore?
Not seen anything on their Twitter account about us for weeks. Plenty about Hull rugby league teams and the region’s 2 EFL teams during that time.
Is Ollie still with them or did he fall victim to the recent cull at the BBC?
Only one tweet from him re the late accounts filing since early May.
I don’t know who owns the Ilkeston ground but according to supporters it was in a poor state and the club had significant debts when Hilton stepped in to rescue them. Their words not mine. They became debt free, improved the ground, installed a top end 4g pitch and managed a couple of promotions under his ownership of the club.
Same again please Mr Hilton – except the 4g pitch needs to be at a training facility if we are to return to the EFL.
The Ilkeston folk don’t seem to mind that he changed his name or briefly worked as a debt collector.
There is a genuine and obvious warmth from their fans towards their previous owner. Mind you if our previous owner was to visit us many fans would like to shake him warmly by the throat.

White did which he said was his original name. Legally changed for personal family reasons. Denied Anderson had ever been used by him.
Care to share why this is relevant?
It never ceases to amaze me the level of arrogance by those who tell others how to behave towards a subject which they have demonstrated they know nothing about.
The irony is staggering from the only person on the forum that knows the truth about the “devil”.
