September 20, 2023 at 10:51 pm in reply to: So. Either DH Has Put Loadsa Money Into The Iron or He Has Not. #272958
Especially as we had such a fine credit rating and a happy band of suppliers back in January when we had never heard of David Hilton.
Oh hang on a minute – didn’t we have a raft of unpaid suppliers and an imminent winding up order from HMRC. Oh and were we not already under a transfer embargo from the National League. Not to mention Sharp and Elliot having to pay December’s wage bill. Were we not also bottom of the league and hadn’t owned our ground for 2 years.
Hilton has certainly not solved all off the clubs problems and probably hasn’t got enough spare loose change in his pocket to do so. But neither did he create them. If only we’d had an interested bystander with a personal grudge against Peter Swann pitch up a couple of years ago.
I see coverage is now scheduled on Humberside.
Sometimes wish he would buy a TV or a dog perhaps.
Brackley site suggesting live commentary will be available.
Can’t spot our replay on Vanarama TV.
?Don’t think it will be on Les given its FA Cup. I’d be surprised if Hullberside even cover it.
Might be reduced to recreating Ceefax days on Twitter. Will be my first missed game of the season – can’t raise the enthusiasm for 5 hours in the car for a second qualifying round replay.

Might suit us better to play them on a Tuesday given they are part time and we have begun to stutter at home.
Att: 1,909
9 out on my attendance prediction. Thought there would only be 17 from Brackley.

I think Bru would lose a lot of appeal if we all had to agree with each other.
Not much that is certain with the Iron just now but I think we can rely on that Cass.

Manure probably have a slightly better credit rating than SUFC Awaywego.

Brackley don’t get big crowds and it’s a fair treck. Most that have the inclination are likely to wait and travel for the much more important league game 2 weeks later.
Also season ticket holders have to fork out £14-20 for an FA Cup qualifying game. Many won’t bother.
The negativity surrounding this weeks revelations certainly won’t help.
I think Cliff is probably a bit optimistic. I think we will be shy of 2000.
Going for a late Swann era attendance of 1900.
Looking at Brackley’s fairly small squad they don’t have much option to rest first teamers whilst Jimmy will be able to rest 8 or 9. He probably should as well given the limited opportunities to give them game time.
2-1 Brackley. We will reverse that scoreline with Scales joining the rest of the first team 2 weeks later – if we are still in business by then.

Agree Booba land is worth £1.5m at best. That’s if the seller covers the cost of demolishing the stadium.
Good post Siderite.
I agree with you probably more than you think. I did write a post early on after I heard David Hilton’s Sound cloud interview/statement/emotional outpouring in which I offered him the advice to issue an apology for misleading fans and to pay any outstanding invoices.
My opinion only but I think he deserves a second chance over the Fraud conviction but appreciate other don’t. I assume people that feel this way would want him away from the club immediately.
The apology and payment of outstanding debts would at least help take a bit of heat out of the situation.
None of this makes me a Hilton “supporter”. I didn’t support Swann or the Wharton’s either. I support the club and always will whoever (and sometimes in spite of) whoever is the chairman of the club.
The facts of the situation is that as ever is the case us supporters of a football club have little or no influence over control of said club.
Hilton has achieved a turnaround on the field at a club in seemingly terminal decline for 5 or 6 years. I give him credit for that. He is taking longer than I would like to solve the off field shitshow that he inherited. I have cut him slack on that due to the sheer scale of the inherited issues but after 6 months remaining issues should be sorted by now.
Regarding the ground and land I am hopeful that Hilton is working through a strategy to get that for something closer to its real market value. If that pisses off the previous owner I would see that as a bonus.
Sadly the only definite action we can ever take when disagreeing with the ownership is to stop going to games which is what half the fan base had done with the previous owner.
I am still trying to get my head around the “Feck off you criminal but keep paying (at least some) of the bills until you find a nice new owner for us that will pay Swann twice the value for his land” message.
I understand that some people find the deception unforgivable – not happy about it myself but my default is to give people a chance when they have made a mistake. I struggle personally with the low tolerance to someone making a mistake having made a few myself but fully respect that people have to be true to their own belief system and moral code.
But if you want him gone then surely you want him gone right now. Why on earth would he/should he keep paying the bills and take responsibility to find an “acceptable” new owner?
According to FA rules cup matches count as part of player suspension periods. Apart from EFL Trophy for some reason but obviously that doesn’t apply to us these days.

Thanks again Deery for letting me know what I should be thinking and doing. I don’t know how I would get through these difficult times without your guidance.
To summarise the indignant faction:
Lying criminal must leave the club. No ifs no buts.
But keep spending your dirty money David and taking the abuse until the White Knight arrives with some clean money and pays Mr Swann his £3m. Otherwise we really won’t like you.
Not much to ask is it.

It wasn’t Siderite I was referring to with my comment on self righteousness but thank you for letting me know what I should be thinking.
A tad self righteous perhaps?
On that we can agree.

I absolutely defend your right to feel, think and say whatever you like Siderite.
Don’t mind mind me I’m just drowning in the torrent of self righteousness.

Neither am I that’s why I’m not telling the guy what to do.
Although I am sure the ccolour of your cash would do the trick as well.
Above suggestion to Siderite not WG.
Why don’t you offer to pay him back the money he has spent and ask him to leave?
I think that might work.
I will never forgive Swann. I judge Iron owners on what happens with the Iron during their ownership.

Bugger, Bill scuppered that idea.
I bet Old Trafford still has 70 odd thousand attending despite their third player or ex player in a couple of years accused of beating up their partner.
Only wrote that because I wanted to emulate AA and post 3 in a row on the same thread.
Apologies Awaywego – had written mine before I saw your post.
Great minds and all that……

we don’t want to see cheats and liars prosper
After all these years I think I just got one of Fansy’s jokes!
Also bear in mind the crowd will inevitably drop this Saturday – qualifying round of the FA cup is probably not going to generate massive excitement. Perhaps the league game with Brackley a couple of weeks later is a better test of support or otherwise. I will be at both and probably the Chorley game in between.

We all have our own views depending on our belief systems as to people that do something seriously wrong deserving a second chance once they have paid for the consequences of their wrongdoing.
Mine is that everyone deserves a second chance.
For what it is worth my advice to David Hilton is that whilst I understand his desire to keep the record of his wrongdoing from the public domain that was never going to happen in the position he is in. He has obviously owned his actions and consequences privately and made a success of his life since then. Today’s publication and confirmation gives him an opportunity to own it publicly and completely move on. Of course some will villify him for his mistake but my faith in humanity hopes the majority will accept his mistake and judge him solely on his actions since he arrived at our club.
I do think a short but sincere apology for misleading the fans of club back in February would help. At the fans forum he denied having used names other than Hilton and White. I cannot recall his actual words but he effectively denied any past criminality which also was untrue. Sorry and move on will do for me. It would also help to speed up the validation and payment of any outstanding debts the club still have.
Putting all that aside I would personally like to thank David Hilton for saving the club I have loved for 60 years and for the massive amount of effort and money he has expended to make that happen. In addition to saving the club from extinction he has turned around the 5 years of decline presided over by the previous owner. We will probably never know if that decline came from spite or from mind boggling incompetence. From dreading attending matches and being embarrassed by inept performances he has got me actually looking forward to attending football again. A massive achievement in my book in a time frame I did not think was possible.
The club will allways have my support. Friends you can choose. Family and your football club you are stuck with. But David Hilton himself has won my personal support for the job he has done and I wish him well, hopefully continuing as chairman of our football club. If he chooses otherwise then I wish him equally as well in whatever path he takes.
