We had 70 minutes of Bennett trying to win the ball followed by 20 minutes of Whitehall ignoring the ball and trying to win free kicks.

Neither did a particularly good job of it and both would benefit from mixing their game up a bit.

It was Swann who caused the issue that necessiatated Sharp having to stump up the money in the first place.

Surprised the lad from South Korea didn’t get a shout out and a walk on the pitch today.

Ogle got into some fantastic forward positions today.

If only his final ball matched everything else.

Mind you if it did he would be playing 3 or 4 levels higher.

    Happy with the old ground.

Perhaps if we had directors with contacts in the structural steel and fabrication businesses then in time we might be able to improve the tin can without breaking the bank.

2 or 3 stands with pillarless roofs would make a massive difference.

Start the new era with a 2-1 win in front of 5,036 (35 away and 1 from South Korea).

Good post Sidy except the bit about losing the ground. We lost the ground 2 years ago. Hilton had a very poor plan to get it back but it wasn’t him that took it from the club.

There are enough facts out there that any sane person will be relieved and delighted he is no longer involved without the need to embellish the story.

Thanks for the kind offer Juryeff.

Already have a ticket. Hopefully someone can use it. Would be surprised if DRE doesn’t come close to selling out on Saturday.

I think Swann did a fair amount of club breaking and he wants £3m to dissappear.

Where does the value of £1.5M come from?

If you are making up a random number, why not go lower?

Yes that valuation is just my opinion of the top end value and certainly not what the opening offer would be if I was negotiating.

There are suggestions on Twitter that Peter Swann is open to a rental agreement with people other than David Hilton. That doesn’t necessarily mean it’s true of course but if it is then it suggests Peter Swann has not got a queue of buyers for the land banging at his door.

The real valuation is fairly hard to work out.

Without planning consent the land only has any real value to SUFC as a going concern which probably puts the value at £1m or less.

On the other side of the coin if the club is saved as a going concern Glanford Park is the only venue where the club can accommodate the 3k plus attendances it needs to thrive. Hence the seller probably thinks he can squeeze more than £1m.

Throw into the mix how likely is the council to grant planning consent resulting in the demolition of the towns football stadium? Coupled with the popularity level nationally of the Tories right now that would leave Rob Waltham with a worrying day next time the local elections come around.

I agree a solution without Glanford Park is really not a solution at all.

It would be a stay of execution which is better than we are facing currently but without debt free use of the stadium I cannot see any prospect of a return to the EFL.

It would be ideal if the stadium was fan owned or at least 51% fan owned to guarantee this kind of situation cannot happen again.

Owning and funding the football club is a much more attractive proposition if the ground is guaranteed available for running costs and a peppercorn rent.

I would happily chuck in a grand or so towards the Iron Trust owning or part owning the ground providing Peter Swann is prepared to sell at a realistic price. There may be the appetite and the means amongst fans to raise the £1.5m that would seem to be about a fair price. Of course if Peter Swann has folks queuing up to pay the reported £3m for some relatively unattractive land with no planning consent and significant demolition costs then I fear the ground is gone forever.

Both Hilton and Swann still have fingers in the pie.

Not sure there will be much to feel good about until neither has any connection with the club, financial or otherwise. Interesting that both blame the fans of the club for their own failings.

Given living rent free is going out of fashion it might be a good time to evict Herbert and his gang from your heads.

Does anything actually happen on there that matters a toss right now?

He has certainly not proved himself a saviour. He has given the club a stay of execution and has tried in his fairly unique way to start a recovery process.

The tangible benefit he has brought to the club is that he has given us a team that doesn’t get beaten nearly every match. This is the fist time in 5 years that we have had that so credit where it is due.

The club will be saved if and when it is back in the EFL, owns its own fit for purpose ground and trades at a fairly small loss.

That is what Swann inherited 11 years ago and that is what success looks like for a club like ours.

I can only assume this is Hilton deliberately antagonising the fan base so he can self justify walking away without paying the tax bill and September wages.

Should be gone by the weekend.

Sadly taking the club down with him.

We have not looked like HMS Piss the League since the Scarborough game and have never yet given a “champion” performance in an away game.

Now we are missing probable first 11 picks, Clunan, Beestin, Roberts, Evans, Ogle and Scales for varying amounts of time we are in for a tough run of games. A point would be a good result this Saturday. 4 points from the Buxton and Brackley home games would be excellent.

After that we should be closer to fielding the first eleven. Of course that assumes no further injuries, suspensions, player sales or off field distractions.

The next 6 weeks or so will likely define our on field season. The unpopular changes referred to in the directors statement need to be announced and implemented quickly otherwise the season is going to drift away from us.

Never quite worked out how we need circa 5,000 fans to put a team together to challenge at the top.

Our average gate this season has been 3,777.

If you add together the attendances of 4 of the top 7 (Spennymoor, Blyth, Chorley and Brackley) it is still 200 less than our total.

FFS Brackley probably the best football team we have played this year survive on crowds under 600.

Must be some very wealthy sugar daddies around at this level.

Especially as we had such a fine credit rating and a happy band of suppliers back in January when we had never heard of David Hilton.

Oh hang on a minute – didn’t we have a raft of unpaid suppliers and an imminent winding up order from HMRC. Oh and were we not already under a transfer embargo from the National League. Not to mention Sharp and Elliot having to pay December’s wage bill. Were we not also bottom of the league and hadn’t owned our ground for 2 years.

Hilton has certainly not solved all off the clubs problems and probably hasn’t got enough spare loose change in his pocket to do so. But neither did he create them. If only we’d had an interested bystander with a personal grudge against Peter Swann pitch up a couple of years ago.

Assuming that you’re not the type of person to rush into a debate without having the facts to hand, can you confirm for the good contributors of this forum:

    1) With the exception of this latest batch of CCJs which have been registered against Scunthorpe United Football Club Ltd, how many CCJs have been registered against the company in the past 6 years?

    2) What is the current credit rating for Scunthorpe United Football Club Ltd and what was it prior to this batch of CCJs being registered?

As for WUPs, it’s currently 1-1. However, Hilton’s already indicated that HMRC are in the process of applying for one, so for the hard of thinking, that will make two.

    1. Nowhere did I suggest Swann had not paid bills for 6 years or indeed mention any period. It is difficult to be sure when Swann stopped funding the club as he stopped communicating with fans long before that happened but according to people close to the club at that time it was sometime from the start of last season but not later than December last year when he refused to cover the wage bill and tax bill. Those running the club on his behalf at that time confirmed this and also that SUFC did not have the funds to cover these outgoings. It is possible that this was just a ploy to convince potential buyers to pay his seemingly inflated valuation for the club. I don’t believe Swann commented publicly at that time so who knows? He must have convinced the Sharp/Elliott consortium at that time that he was prepared to let the club fold hence them stepping in to pay the December wage bill with a substantial gift/loan. The HMRC debt subsequently led to a winding up order that was cleared by Hilton. So that is one winding up order that evidence suggests Swann was not going to pay and one month’s wages that he was not going to pay. Either of these would have likely led to the closure of the club and resulted in sanctions from the National League. Indeed we were under a signing and new contract embargo so we’re unable to offer our leading scorer a contract to cover the remainder of the season. So outstanding debts at that time were well in excess of £300k. Hence my point regarding credit worthiness when Hilton arrived on the scene.
    2. I am not aware of the clubs credit rating either in mid January or now and have no desire to find out. Personally I would not have supplied goods or services with credit terms to the club either in January or now. Compared to the overall debt Hilton inherited and the likely overall level of debt now then the value of the CCJ’s is relatively small beer. Not that I don’t have every sympathy with those owed money and am not supportive of any business unwilling to pay it’s debts.

Regarding the winding up petitions this is a football club that many people care deeply about not some childish game of who has the most CCJ’s or WUP’s.

Somebody did make a good point on that Fishy thread actually that I had not really thought of – how many people actually do back Hilton ?

We only know a good few on Facebook , but the wider consensus is unknwown really , we know people had/have major doubts on here but a fair amount of people either don’t do social media or just care about what’s going on,on the pitch so for people to say the fans deserve what they are getting or the like is unfair really .

Probably a few more than used to back Fenty. But as Grimsby fans found out there’s next to bugger all fans can do about it.
