Feel the same as Mick and BS,60 years of support, and our once great little football,is being slowly eroded,by people who have not got a clue how to run a bath never mind a football club, and yes it was better under Steve Wharton,he let the manager manage, feel very bitter towards Swann
exactly, in the 70s and 80s expectations were low but we supported the club and usually put out the same 11 every week in their proper positions and we used to try to win games by attacking teams and some we won and some we didn’t with possibly worse players than we have now, no 5 at the back and negative formations, even if we lost usually the opposing keeper earned his money, now we hardly have a shot at goal and it’s boring to watch with players playing out of position etc.
I agree with most on here, over the last 40years I have seen both the highs and the lows but where we are now is the lowest of the low which is ironic given we have chairman who came in criticised how the club was been run and promised the earth, new stadium, championship status ect and here we are looking at non league next season. We weren’t such a poorly run club under Wharton and Co were we.
I think a lot of this has been brought on by not getting the new ground done and the Chairman has lost a lot of interest.
I do not see how people can say ‘had an average game’ and then give a 5 which represents a notch below average. A fair few have done this over recent games.
People are too cavalier with their marks – there is far too much gut reaction.
Most marks will be between 5 and 7 in any game. Below par, average, above average.
If everyone gets a 5 – you’d lose any game – and often by quite a margin.Take Hornshaw, last night – got a lot wrong you can justify a 4 but he was trying hard so can hardly go lower.
in the paper merit marks they used to call 6 as a average game.
playing Hornshaw at Right Back must have cost us around 6 points, it’s not the lads fault because he can’t play Right Back and will never be any good there, he isn’t a winger either so no good at Wing Back, the lad is a decent midfield player and to me a lot of signings this summer haven’t been thought about with the 2 players for each position, but like normal we seem to get more injuries than any other club at our level and it seems our better players seem to be the ones always injured.
It’s what the fans wanted ……this is the narrative the club are peddling so it will be our fault.
we did, but not get rid of 80% of experienced players and replace them with non league players who some couldn’t get into their former team, also he has wanted to do this since we lost at Rotherham and dilly dallying helped in Daws getting sacked and Hurst getting sacked last season for bringing players in while the club wanted to cut back last season so now we have seen what happens I can see Football League records for the number of consecutive defeats.
We did have 2 shots on target by the stats.
About time we got a freaky result in our favour.
I think our Chairman and management have been watching it as well.
Exactly NI.
McAtee threw the towel in today. Hippolyte was appalling. If the fans had been in today there would have been some dissenting voices around the Directors Box. It was a painful watch (again) UTWI
I have got to admit Barrie having knowing you for over 10 years now and talking to you on the phone last night I have never heard you be so downhearted with the club.
what has made it worse is in the first 4 games Bedeau and Cordner looked strong but now are nervous wrecks, but the idea of playing no full backs we are completely exposed down the wings and it is no use playing wingbacks who are neither wingers or full backs because it is going to destroy George Hornshaw and Hippolyte if it hasn’t done already. if you want a young squad you need a experienced keeper, full backs and a central defender, all we have available is Gillihead for experience who does his best but it’s a lost cause for him.
my other concern is seeing what height we have upfront and in central defence we hardly win any headers in either penalty area.
I was hoping for a younger team but expected signings of 22 – 28 year old players with league 2 experience not a load of players from non league who weren’t even regulars at that level, some will improve but some will not.
now I am waiting for the next podcast, but Neil Wright is on his honeymoon so it will be left to the others to have a rant.
I had a chat with Lee Turnbull last night via text and he said they are just dealing with agents, and he feels embarrassed and hurt what is going on at the club after I asked him if he was laughing his socks off.
I don’t think Burny Crewe threw 9 players in at the start of a season without any league experience in one go, they were about 50/50 of youth and experience until those young players were good enough and some older players faded out, our experienced players have been injured and are still out and only one of them has played a couple of games, and of those two experienced one is the goalkeeper who has had one really good game in over 50 so not brilliant, this season is a disaster and you can’t see us win another game, it was certainly better for your mental health when there was no football for six months and to be honest I don’t look forwards to match days anymore and it still wouldn’t surprise me if eventually the club is folded and the ground knocked down for redevelopment.
Andrew is more of a threat than anybody we have.
Spence 5 not his best game
I missed him off and no edit
I thought you were going to say we have had 26 shots at goal in all games this season in all competitions, which would have surprised me.
Watson 2 terrible today
Bedeau 3 two poor games on the trot
Oronaise 6 best of a poor defence
Cordnor 5 another poor performance after looking decent iin early games
Hippolyte 2 for turning up, not at the races
Gilliead 5 started brightly
McAtee 4 worst game I have seen him plauy
Taylor 3 soon got as bad as everyone else
Loft 3 did little
Jarvis 3 had the best chanceRef 6 didn’t give us a deal, but seen far worse
Cox 3 starting to feel sorry for him, but needs to start playing his best players
I don’t know about everyone else but I am growing greatly concerned for the future of the club, we have had one lucky win and a number of backs to wall performances and defeats, who ever imagined you could bring a load of young players with limited experience already at the club are in a world of their own, with one experienced player gone today and no replacement I fear this season will be worse than the last two if that is possible, I know we criticise Neil Cox for his formations but I can’t see who else would want to take his place, just hope it improves when Kev and Jordan are fit but this last three seasons are not what we want to see and only the COVID-19 is stopping us from getting record lows at home games.
Right Back is the major problem and that is no disrespect to George Hornshaw because he isn’t a full back, but a pair of full backs could make a massive difference.
I don’t think not telling the club at the time will have helped him.
It’s OK if people think it’s PS who signs the players and decides who plays and what formation, to me this all has Russ written over it, style of football is similar to the long run with better players and how he played at York, the signings, a lot of players where either what he brought here last season or players he probably watched last season apart from what Neil brought in, so I could be wrong but if there is a director of football I think he is manager of the u23s.
won 4-0, D-Turan got the 4th.
3-0 up, I we trying new tactics. Dales, Green and Olomola after 55 minutes.
I would love to see us win 7 out of the last 20, at the moment can’t see another win after the lucky win over Carlisle.
but still surprised at Alexander going, bit of a over reaction from Salford.I think their manager has rubbed our noses in it further claiming it was their worst performance this season.
When your manager tells you in a newsletter how dangerous the opposition is and they will attack a lot and create lots of chances and have lots of shots at goals you know he will pick a negative eleven and hope to counter attack them, for God sake we are at home and why do we have to pick a side to stop them scoring, like sanfran says regularly play a team were they have to worry about us, if we are going to lose do it fighting not attack for 20 minutes and then a token effort when they scored their third because they weren’t troubled all second half until they got the late third, same last week at Tranmere, we played well until they scored then hadn’t a clue what to do.
don’t you think Les that clubs are targeting our right back area because they know it is a weak area in our defence, but to be fair to George he isn’t a right back.
if B teams came in how would they do it, they would have to add another division to start with.
got to agree with sanfran about a lot of the problems at the club started with Paddy going, Alexander seemed to unsettle Paddy and Kev and got rid, had the bust up with Conor and swapping the team about and it has been a complete shambles since, a big mistake was letting McCall leave because though he wasn’t doing great I don’t think we would have got relegated and possibly we would have had a better squad last season in league 1, the timing of Hurst going was also bad because we were starting to play some good football but errors at the back let us down, but God knows what will happen this season because there isn’t any anything to indicate we will win many games, if any for a long while.
I thought M&S and Tesco had restrictions of say 2 hours on match days, especially on a Saturday.
that is the bright side barrie, the banter, but started to go to the Farmhouse because of my knee instead of Gunness Straite, I have never been to Scunthorpe since we played the Cods, I used to like going down to Home Bargains and Iceland but now go to Retford.
it could easily turn that way Bill.
