How many seasons have we started with a “sack the manager” post? Certainly the last three, possibly four or five going back to Alexander.
We don’t yet know, however, why Dunnwald-Turan has been frozen out for the last 10-or-so months. He wasn’t *that* bad on his couple of appearances, was he?
Or you could stand.
If you’re young enough or don’t have other issues that prevent you from standing for a couple of hours.
I didn’t think ifollow was an option any more this season?
Would it have been that hard to give facilities a lick of paint and at least ensure toilets had adequate lighting levels?
Would have it have been that hard to bring in a cleaning contractor to clean seats for a week to ensure they were at least presentable? It’s absolutely the bare minimum. How many pubs & restaurants have you seen since lockdown which have either used the opportunity to refurbish the place or which are doing everything they can to look spick & span to encourage customers back. Yet football fans are taken for granted yet again.
I know money is apparently tight but you cannot save on certain things and expect to do well.
The absolute state of this. Where is the sense of pride?

certainly thought Watson could have done better with goal number 3, in what was a good save, but a poor place to parry it to.
I understand the principle and I appreciate that this is sometimes true but realistically what do you expect a keeper to do in such a position? He has to focus on saving the shot and if it’s powerful like in that case it’s very hard if not impossible to push the ball anywhere else. And if you’re thinking about doing that, you’re more likely to make a mistake with the original save.
The back 4 deserve far more criticism for that goal – Pugh for his miskick and the 24 for failing to follow their centre forward. Taft could/should have also been following in the shot too, looking to stop the rebound.
We know Watson has his failings but there’s no point looking too hard for them.
The criticism of Watson is bizarre based on what I saw – for their third goal, I thought he made a very good save in what Misteron Mick tells me is his weakness. It was a powerful shot and he is entitled to expect one of his defenders to react.
The Swindon equaliser also stemmed from Loft’s complete inability to hold up the ball, a 10-yard first touch that immediately put us under pressure. Loft has plenty to offer but he cannot be expected to act as a target man.
On the upside, Loft’s penalty is one of the best struck Scunny penalties I’ve seen in a long, long time.
Our budget is determined by how many fans we get through the gate, which is determined by how many games we win, which is determined by how good our players are, which is determined by our budget. All connected.
Also by how much tickets cost, by how easy it is to get to the ground, by the state of the ground when you get in, by how involved fans feel in the club.
It’s easy to blame the team but there will be plenty of crap sides who manage to get more people through the gate.

I thought Swann’s answer to the question about the state of the ground on the podcast was absolutely pathetic. As Deerey says, he should have shown far more interest in the issue. After all, he’d spent quite a bit of time on the interview asking for us to buy season tickets & to come to games, surely that’s the point when you demonstrate a bit of customer service?
If I were in charge of the club’s PR, I’d have been furious with his answer.

We got zilch from KVV last season – why we did not sign him on a much reduced contract. Injuries?
He was repeatedly rushed back, it was no surprise that his season panned out the way it did.
Anyway Ferrite – you didn’t rate Gilliead so can’t be too bothered by him being replaced.
I wouldn’t say I didn’t rate him, I just never understood the fuss. I thought he was fine, nothing special, eminently replaceable. I guess time will tell with that. Personally, I think we may well miss Eisa a lot more, despite your criticisms of his game.
From this set up, there ought to be distance between us and 23rd place.
On what grounds do you base this?
Maybe the defence will be better than last season but for much of the second half of the season our defence wasn’t too bad overall, probably largely because of our negative play.
But what will make the difference at the other to turns draws into wins & defeats into draws? Maybe the apparent upgrades in midfield will make the difference. Better service to the forwards should bring dividends.
But I still don’t see Eisa’s goals or Van Veen’s creativity being replaced and we have new centre back combinations to be tested. Will they be an upgrade on McGahey for example?
I wish Cox all the best, if he does well, the club will do well. However, I cannot share your optimism, with a very thin squad made of unprovens & unknowns. And without a decent goalscorer, as far as we can see.
But it will be interesting to see if we can finally start to see midfielders scoring some goals, which has been a weakness for a couple of seasons, and maybe the adversity of our current situation will galvanise something among the players. The great thing about August is anything seems possible. At least until the end of the first game!
That was my big mistake. Instead, I was halfway up the stand, some way to the side of the goal. Should have known better but I was young & naive!
Gary Bull broke my glasses in the warm-up at Oxford’s Manor Ground, the day we got relegated there.
Let’s go full Greece 2004 – sit deep, smother the opposition’s attacks, nick the game on a set piece. 46 1-0 wins!
It’s very difficult but the messages were vile and I wouldn’t want them to represent my club. Then again, I completely agree that everyone deserves a second chance.
I felt similarly conflicted about us signing Jordan Robertson and, to a lesser extent, Tom Hopper.
but let’s try to be difficult to beat and let teams worry about us not bow to the opposing teams style of play, especially at home, we’ve seen enough negative crap over the last three seasons.
If we’re “difficult to beat”, aren’t we going to be pretty negative?

Wait & see if he’s any good but a very experienced keeper is not the ideal choice for a club that’s likely to be fighting to stay in the league.

I recommend Only Connect for some brain work too.
I think we all have our own opinions on that NI, maybe 98% of them very similar. Personally I’m much happier with the recruitment style this year. It would appear that the manager has had far more input than previously. No marquee signings but some solid performers at L2 level which were clearly needed, get the right keeper in and I might even become optimistic.
Which is fine until the manager is sacked a few months into the season and the new manager wants a whole load of new players!
In my mind, he always played with his head up, always looking for a pass. He wasn’t bad after the first leg break, I thought he came back well, but the second one was obviously just too much. Famously he is an airline pilot now, he’d be a brilliant guest for the podcast.
For me, Calvo-Garcia & Richard Kell will take some beating. Honourable mention for Ian Baraclough.
Was impressed with the way O’Neill took his goal. Very Andy Keogh-like, and boy, could we do with a player like that again.
Good finish, helped in no small measure by looking to be well offside!
Borthwick Jackson came on at half time for them and still hasn’t found his level yet. Still got a way downward to go – maybe the Cods next.
I think he was at Oldham last season, so he’s on the way back up if he’s found his way to Burton?
also haven’t bought a program for years
And now you don’t have the opportunity to.
I’ve said for years that the club’s motto should always be to make it as easy as possible for people to part with their money and yet barriers always seem to be put up, from all-ticket games to queues to crap products.
How many do we normally sell? 1,000?
Just seen the Sunderland one – looks like the pictures haven’t downloaded properly.
Andy Carroll is the wrong side of 30, on a free and injury prone.
Never seen him have a good game at Glanford Park though!
