Today’s SUFC odds:
100/1 to finish as Champions.
33/1 to be promoted.Wrexham are still odds on favourites to be Champions.
3-1 for relegation. Only Aldershot, Altrincham, Maidenhead, Maidstone, Yeovil & Dorking shorter odds than us at present.
And we’ve already played two of those teams!1 user thanked author for this post.
If Man City are not particularly exciting to watch then Liverpool are as dull as ditchwater
Each to their own but I find Liverpool much more interesting to watch, they are more vulnerable than City which is always a good thing for a big team. But one great thing about big clubs playing each other is that it’s always funny when one of them loses.
Hillbuild is another Ron Bradley, Dickie Rooks, only I suspect they had a better win ratio, that’s how bad he is.
Must be our worst ever manager. He makes me pine for the days of Alan Knill and I hated watching his team!

On the other hand, when were we last 3-0 up?
No, not sure we’ve reached the basement yet!

The sound you hear when your bubble of expectation bursts.
Simply not good enough.
What’s the point of scoring three if we’re letting them come back and get four?NLN beckons.
If you want a straw to grasp at, losing 3-4 is so much better than the endless 0-1 and 0-2 defeats of last season. I’ve always said, if you’re going to be crap, at least be fun and crap.

My first ever game: Carlisle at home, we were 2-0 up with 10 minutes left and lost 3-2. Why did I not take that as a warning?

Nobody’s arguing that we don’t have a major lack of defenders.
We have scored seven in four games – something must be right.
2 decent defenders can radically change this squad.Three of the current back 4 plus the goalkeeper are new signings, so are you saying we need to replace these already?
It still amazes me that WG has never had a job as a Football League manager, he clearly has so much to offer the game.
Defeat tomorrow will really puncture the balloon of optimism from the opening day of the season. Given our relatively easy start to the season in terms of fixtures, plus the hangover from last season, we really need to hit the ground running this year. A point is a must tomorrow I would say.

By the bye – ain’t it great to see Man City top and Man Utd bottom of the Premier League?
Yes, there’s nothing more refreshing than seeing a sportswashing oil-rich state bankrolling a tedious hegemony of the top flight. They’re not even particularly exciting to watch, they have no vulnerabilities, they just smother the opposition with their vast dominance.

Wonder if the takeover is the new new stadium?

Are we not allowed to think that there might be two things wrong with the club? Even if one is worse than the other?

I’m happy to give Hill the benefit of the doubt if there are signs of progress but they’re not really coming yet. Upsides are Ogle, perhaps Nuttall & Butterfield, downsides are the centre backs and creativity in the team as a whole. Not ideal.

Shouldn’t have lasted past the end of last season after completely downing tools and throwing our youngsters under the bus.
What was the plan with that anyway? They’ve barely had a sniff so far this season…Moore-Billam sent out on loan, Young not played a minute, Shrimpton not played a minute, Cribb not played a minute, Gallimore played barely 10 minutes (and not forgetting Lobley being released after making his debut and being dragged off after 30 minutes)!
Not saying they’re good enough, but what was the point!?
I completely agree with this: how he’s still in a job is completely beyond me. In particular, the way we seemed to give up & just play a youth team will take a lot of forgetting and even more forgiving.

Let me throw another name into the mix without lessening the blame on Boyce and Taft. Could Dewhurst have claimed the ball before the opposition players for the first two?
Both well inside the 6 yard box.I wondered that too but will give him the benefit of the doubt for now.
Not sure why Taft is getting all the blame on here when, watching the highlights, Boyce looks equally to blame for the second goal in particular. O’Malley has always looked very suspect when defending, hopefully a good coach will be able to improve that side of the game.
On the upside, Nuttall actually looked like a striker and we did respond in the second half. Not all bad.
Each to their own but I find Newey’s commentary really hard work, he might know his stuff but he doesn’t put it away in a particularly interesting or entertaining way. I also don’t like his approach to referees – he’s a bit old school and confuses what the laws of the game are with what he wants them to be.
Still, each to their own, hope you enjoy listening to him.
But Swann leaving might be a Lightyear away.
Good pun, but even if you’re right, it’ll only make the excitement even bigger when he does toddle off. This week has shown that the fans’ passion for the club is still there, I think a few of us were beginning to doubt that over the last couple of seasons.
I really hoped we might have moved on from Tom Newey this season.
Didn’t Loft go for a small fee?
Aye, that’s probably the right answer but as IA points out, it’s not quite the same as “buy cheap, sell high” of 10-or-so years ago. I guess Holmes might be the last player sold at anything resembling a profit?
Who was the last player we sold for money?
What’s it like to have a “best player” to sell?
I doubt Ronaldo would have scored more than 3 or 4 playing for the teams we put out last season.
Can you imagine the size of his tantrum after yet another cross disappeared behind the goal, on the way to the 7th defeat in a row? I reckon you could power the whole town on a sulk that size.

This is true and whilst I am not saying this was the case for us last season, it is not unknown for clubs to spin stories about “problem” or “troublemaking” players because they want shot of them for other reasons. Look at the Real Madrid press and their stories about Gareth Bale for a high profile example. We must always remember that in football loyalty is a two-way street.
Ultimately, I will find it very hard to forgive Hill for the way we just seemed to give up last season after the Oldham win. I presume it wasn’t his fault that Hipolyte, Onarise & others were sold but there was no obvious reason why the likes of Jarvis & Bunn were frozen out for very inexperienced kids. It was just such a limp approach to the second half of the season.
I’m prepared to see how he can turn it around but he’s starting with a lot of ground to make up for my money.
Sam Burns got a lot of goals for Blackburn’s youth teams… Not sure it’s the most reliable bellweather.
If you remember last season Nuttall was playing the target man role last season and he was woefully poor in the air. Nuttall never looked like he had the mentality to play as a target man.
Ryan loft was something similar, he had all the attributes to be a target man but didn’t have it in him to play that role either. Nutall going from pre season likes to pull out wide and prefers to run the channels. Only problem with that is the fact he’s not in the box when he’s needed.
Funny, I could have sworn you were telling me all through January that we were getting a “big & nasty”.
Surely Nuttall’s strength is being a target man? Given his movement – or lack of it!
