    I didn’t say that.

Not in so many words but you did say that “Sure, Swann is the bigger problem, but if we have any hope we need to have a proper manager in place.” and my point, admittedly a bit heavy-handed, was that I wasn’t sure why anyone would think that any appointment would improve matters, based on recent years.

For all his faults- and there are plenty- Swann didn’t head up recruitment this summer and send us into the season with a young, inexperienced GK and a criminal lack of cover in defence, nor has he set the team up with baffling formations and the inability to hold onto a lead.

Turnbull and co need to address the defence urgently instead of signing another centre mid to stick on the pile.

    Does Swann set the budget?

I love the optimism that after Hill, Cox, Hurst, McCall, Daws N., Alexander, Robins, Wilcox & Laws, the next managerial appointment will be the one that makes the difference.

1 defeat in 7 league games and everyone wants the manager sacked again. Swann may be the biggest problem but we don’t help ourselves as fans.

I’ve hardly watched any football at all this season. My love for the game has evaporated.

Try and make the effort to get along to a non-league game, you may find it helps you reconnect. Unsullied by big money, corrupt owners, dubious regimes, VAR, everything that makes modern football rubbish. I’ve been to lots of non-league football this season and it’s been great. Entertaining games, players giving it their all after a day at work, cheap entry, great pies: everything that makes going to football fun (or should do!).

Do we want to stay in the FA Cup or stay in the National League?

    Answers on a postcard.

Since when was Scunthorpe United one of those entitled clubs that believes it can pick and choose which games it wins?

Not sure what all the gnashing of teeth by some about team selection is all about, we have players injured and have been three players short in the squad all season so what is the manager meant to do? I am sure he will pick what he considers is his best available eleven and if that includes a few youngsters plus others on the bench to make up the numbers because of circumstances, so be it. Just get on with it.

I think it’s fairly straightforward: if we have injuries, so be it, but if we choose to rest players then that’s not going to be a popular choice among fans, judging by the attitudes on this thread.

I’m a bit gutted I can’t get down to this game, it should be fun. There’s no question it should be a priority, there’s money to be made from the cup and we cannot afford (literally!) to be sniffy about that!

It’s a good point but I’m not sure it’s just about changing managers. I remember even as far back as Mark Robbins that we would bring players in during one window and then replace them the following one.

Would prefer to see Whitehouse given more time in the role, not sure if he’s injured but he seems to have dropped off the radar

Yet another new signing who doesn’t really seem to have a defined role, how often does this seem to happen?

In case anyone was thinking of mentioning Mark Howard, I will point you in the direction of the video of him shipping 5 for Wrexham on the weekend. Yes I know they still won 7-5 but still….

BTW, our home game with Wrexham in a couple of weeks could be an absolute rugby score with both sides’ attacks against two poor defences.

If you rely on a young player learning his game you are going to run the risk of performances like Saturday’s. The goals conceded look awful not only for Dewhurst’s efforts at saving them but also for our non-existent midfield failing to get anywhere near their players. That’s where our defensive problems lie, we really need to find a solution to that. I don’t think Beestin & Butterfield can be picked together, need someone else alongside one of them.

I suspect the asking price is too high. In my opinion Swann has destroyed a lot of the intangible asset value of the club, which is only likely to come back if we can show signs of returning the the EFL. That looks a long way off at the moment.

Pretty much anything can be sold if the asking price is right. Conversely, if you can’t sell something, it is often because the price is too high.

The owners of Worcester also own Morecambe I believe, suspect there may be developments there too in coming weeks.

    Them’s that know, know.

Otherwise the system – like at so many clubs – seems designed to actively deter the casual fan.

How dare people express any hope or optimism, the miserable, positive swines!

Henceforth, everyone must be as negative, joyless and misanthropic as Alcazar. His is the only acceptable mood on this board, no looking on the bright side or embracing of a better future will be accepted.

Fingers crossed on Nthle, O’Malley is such a weak leak defensively for all his many attacking qualities.

It’s worth noting that the 23 league starts he’s had here is just over half of all of his league starts in his entire career. Quite notable for a guy who’s 25. That alone might be why he is not too keen to move on again.

I personally don’t rate him. He’s ok at this level so if he stays then we’ve kept an ok player for this league. If he goes then I think he’s easily replaced, he clearly doesn’t want to be here and will probably be happier back in the North West.

Whatever we think of him, he’s still our top scorer, he’s shown a big improvement in his game this year and what makes you think that the club will replace him properly?

Has to be a 6 figure fee surely with an agreement he doesn’t play against us.

Not sure such agreements are allowed under FA rules though of course there’s always a way of doing it.

I really didn’t rate him last year but in fairness he had turned it around and was turning into a useful player at this level.

I’d echo that, maybe a good example of how players look better when they have a better team around them.

Keeps the lights on for another month.

It’s difficult for us to judge this isn’t it? Because crowds aren’t terrible this season, you might have thought that things would be ok since our crowds are not dissimilar to a number of clubs in this division and even in higher ones.

Not read it yet but I will. I’m fairly sure parts of their terracing is still there in a public park. Several YouTube videos about it, Footy Adventures is a decent YouTuber.” src=”https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/14.0.0/svg/1f642.svg” />

You’re quite right, it’s the old Hampden Park and is very close to the current Hampden Park. Known as Cathkin Park.

The demise of Third Lanark is a pretty gloomy story, plenty of warnings from history that football has refused to heed.

They “invited” themselves. Held the EFL to ransom over “solidarity” payments. Without acceptance of their B teams, the funding to lower league sides would have been cut.

why not pay on the gate itself not like there’s no one behind the turnstile spent the money on technology for no benefit. Genuinely you can’t get in after kickoff?

I don’t understand why clubs don’t have at least one turnstile with a contactless payment device if they’re so worried about having cash on the gate. People can then pay their way in on the gate – surely you want to make it as easy as possible for people to part with their cash?

Now we aren’t a football league club anymore get rid of this “pay on the day” rubbish. might make a bit extra money.

You can pay on the day but it costs more which, frankly, I think is daft.

The story you mention was someone trying to get in 10 minutes after kick-off.

Because that’s what the maths gives us unless something changes.

It depends if 4 teams get fewer points, surely you can work that out?
