One of biggest problems other than recruitment in recent years has been the size of the squad, how are young lads like Pugh/Shrimpton meant to develop when they are dropped for a quarter of the season after one bad game. There is no need for 2/3 players for every position- it’s a modern phenomenon inspired by the premier league which doesn’t marry up with our budgets.
It’s perhaps one of the reasons why so many have stagnated here and gone on to succeed elsewhere in recent years; Bedeau, Cordner, Goode, Rowe etc

Think we are pretty much on track; most of the remaining signings you’d imagine are going to be primarily squad players.
The loan market is where we could have a significant advantage over teams at this level
Goat burgers were fine at the start of the season but soon descended into a sweaty meat mess that stuck to the foil.
More selection of beer is a welcome addition though and This new guy seems to be the real deal, by all accounts he’s made a good job of it at Hull KR.
With a match day squad of 18 I still think 21 is tight. A couple of injuries (Roberts & Law) and a couple of suspensions (Evans and Whitehall) and we’re short. Also I like the DM to be a tackler/ball winner, not Clunans game IMO. I hope the two priority signings are both MFs and one of them is Corbett.
Clunan will be an interesting one next year; previous to the last campaign he was included in Team of the year for Kings Lynn and seemed to enjoy success further up the pitch. I’m not quite sure Jimmy knew how to utilise him best and he ended up just going through the motions on his return from the injury and was one of the reasons our play was often so slow.
Hopefully AB has a different role in mind
Darlo and Chester are completely fan owned.

If the plan is 2 up front then 4 strikers has to be what we are looking at- another signing and potentially a young loanee ?
Whitehall and the New lad have 35 goals between them so you’d forgive the club for looking to take a gamble lower down the pyramid rather than signing another experienced player. My main focus would now be on that midfield battler, we often looked to lightweight in there last year.
Other than that: Cover the keeper , RB, and the wings (depending on formation) and we are pretty much there
More cotton buds needed rather than new microphones.
I thought all 3 centre backs showed good form at different stages last season, however Evans, for me, was the most consistent of them all.
Really pleased he’s decided to stay.

Superb effort

It’s worth remembering that this transfer window will be the first for the majority of the board. They’ve probably judged this one wrong but if any group of people deserve some slack- it’s them.
Never a good look seeing contract details in the public domain, nothing much the club can do there though. By the sounds of it they were probably better off not offering a contract at all.
Meanwhile, It is pleasing to see the players that are leaving showing affection to both the club and the fanbase as evidenced by the post by Butterfield’s wife; hopefully that culture can be strengthened in the forthcoming season.

No surprise really, thought he looked comfortable in the National League and should have no problem competing at that level. He Has been a consistent performer for us so wish him well.
Agree with the posts regarding Barrows; proven player at this level and deserves a decent crack at making RB his own so a replacement may not be necessary.
A true Scunny legend as much as any player, probably the most known fan of all time looked after everyone on the away coaches you wanted for nothing.
His wife a true diamond as well putting up with all his memorabilia never mind about the train stuff, going with him on trips to do research on the iron the only time I met her was when they were going to Liverpool so he could go through the Liverpool echo archives for any mention of the iron.Very sad loss indeed. This was one of the stories John told me about when I bought his latest book , I believe he only retrieved a small article from decades ago featuring Scunthorpe playing at Tranmere, he was more than happy with that as a day well spent.

Swann’s reasoning for moving the ground under Coolsilk’s name was also to increase the likelihood of attracting investors for the development of the site. I can’t remember the quote exactly but it was something along the lines of investors don’t like working with football clubs.
Calls of ‘draw tickets’ were as a familiar sound for me on DRE as any song growing up.
Only had the privilege to meet him a couple of times and he was fascinating company with limitless anecdotes for all things SUFC.
Condolences with his friends and family today.

Might have been the National league season where we signed a boat load of players early and most turned out to be garbage.
I suspect we won’t hear much until the contract offers are either accepted or not, not like there’s any rush yet.
You have to admire the irony when he writes 6 pages of drivel trying to prove his integrity whilst using a burner account to post the statement

Absolutely. She has managed to create a real link between the town and the club now which is something I’ve not seen since following us. The amount of fundraising and work going in from people is humbling, I honestly never thought the town was that bothered about maintaining a professional club, but that’s proven to be wrong.
The attitude seems to have shifted to ‘ what can I do for my club, rather than what can my club can do for me.

We can’t, but he’s already here and probably on a decent wage. I suspect AB will bring in cover for both sides but my gut says it certainly won’t be the calibre of Corbett.
Only realistic scenario would potentially be another Loan? But if Boro have him Transfer listed it sounds like they’d rather get rid.
Law is a left winger. Law is a natural left footer. Corbett can play right and left hand side and play in the no 10 role. Perfect player to have really as he’s extremely versatile.

You’re right, he is left footed, Jimmy definitely has him on the right at points last year though.
I still can’t see Kai coming in to be sat behind Roberts, he’s going to want to be starting every week. Despite Robert’s poor injury record we are not going to have the luxury to have 2/3 players for each position this year.
Went down the other day and thought the volunteers have done a cracking job tbh.
It’s to Peter Swann’s embarrassment that he allowed to run it down to such a state after pumping X amount of millions in over the years and supposedly being a hospitality expert.
We’ve already got 2 contracted right mids in Roberts and Law. Can’t see either leaving.
Didn’t we sell roughly 1300 under Hilton? I know there were some serious doubts by a few at that point, but he still had the majority of supporters on board.
What would be a realistic figure this year ?

DSF going a disappointment , maybe Law and Roberts under contract influenced this?
Surprised we have offered so many deals tbh as I was expecting a mass exodus, encouraging signs if only a few of them agree a deal.
Agree 100%. I like football under Nelson and considering what little we had we played attractive, attacking football. As you said though, all the progress was pished away when Jimmy came.
Now I know you’re making it up. Even The win against Halifax was a painful watch. The point against Bromley was the only game we looked like a footballing side.
Prefer them to Macc. Leamington only just over 2 hours away too.
Not many away grounds I’ll be looking forward to next year apart from Alfreton and Farsley.
Stuart Maw for one of his raffles ?
Bromley have sold over 15,000. There’s a huge catchment there and eventually they’ll probably end up being an established EFL side.
