I am largely against the move to a “cashless society” for many reasons, not least because it excludes a lot of people who can’t get bank accounts/debit cards for whatever reason. Plus it leaves a trail – not ideal if you’re in an abusive relationship for example. It also makes it harder for charities to do bucket collections.
But, that said, I don’t think it’ll make a huge difference at GP. Indeed, it might make things quicker at the bar. Some big grounds have been using stadium cards for years where you can only pay for things with a top-up card (I think this doubles as your season ticket too), so it’s been coming.
I didn’t realise it had been voted on – just goes to show you can’t trust the public!
But regardless of the vote on the design, I’m still disappointed with the shades of “claret” and blue. Hopefully it’ll look better in person.
I was following Hampshire v Glamorgan on ESPNCRICINFO and would have loved to have seen the Hampshire innings, 18 fours and 12 sixes scoring 187 in 13 overs to qualify to the quarterfinals of the Blast, they needed to do it in 14 overs, but Livingstone is one big hitter and unlucky with the runout.
Lot of those games are streamed on YouTube Mick, looks like you watch the whole game here:

200 seems high to me given the state of things.
It’s a pretty desperate situation, another example of a club being completely failed by the Football League’s “regulation”, a club being ruined by its owner. How many more times do we have to see this sorry story before real change happens?

A squad of 23 and a few kids is great it’s a good number and we don’t need to be carrying 30 plus like we were last year.
23 is quite a long way away at the moment, given we have about 15 at present!
It’s the modern world. The mainstream media are driving everything.
What does this actually mean?

(did he play in the tin pot trophy??)
Interestingly, those games don’t count which, given the way the EFL likes to bang on about the cup giving youth players a better chance, is quite an admission of failure on their part!
Spence replacement – ?
Was the Spence replacement not Kenyon?
Don’t forget all these players that have left put us into the position we finished.
Very true but having some players is probably better than having so players, on balance?
Although it’s fair that literally no one would have been better than some of our players last season!
Squad ready by the end of May – another great example of over-promising.
So what do we have?
GK – Watson
RB – Millen
RB – Rowe
LB – O’Malley
CB – Onarise
CB – Taft
CB – Davis
RW – Green
LW – Hippolyte
CM – Hallam
CM – Beestin
CM – Kenyon
CF – Loft
CF – Jarvis
CF – Dunnwald-TuranPlus a smattering of players so young they look like they’ve not yet started shaving.
I make that a squad of 15 established pros. 11 players, plus 4 subs.
No great loss but we’re not exactly spoiled for choice in any position. How many departures is that since last April?
A lovely fella, always a sunny face at parkrun. Even when he was volunteering there, he would jog up Kingsway to keep active. He’ll be much missed.
Are Bradford still doing their £100 season ticket from a few seasons back? If so maybe that’s a factor but signing quite a few half decent proven league two players up is probably the main reason.
Even if they were, that’s £100,000 for the 1,000 season tickets they’ve sold so far. We’d have to probably sell something like 300-350 in that time to make the same amount, reckon we have?
If Bradford have sold 10,000 season tickets as they claim, even at £100/ticket that’s £1 million right there.
I noticed Bradford sold 1,000 season tickets in 48 hours. I know they’re a big club for this division but I’d love to know how many we’ve sold in that time – or even overall!
I don’t care how we win Ferrite. I am suggesting that the manager’s tactics made the game against a poor German team much tighter than it needed to be. Hummels, Kroos and Muller are a shadow of the great players they once were but if Muller had put away the games easiest chance I am not sure we would have won the game.
The Mueller chance did come for a freak mistake by Sterling, not sure you can really judge too much from that. Whereas in general play, Germany didn’t create much.
I agree it’s not a classic German side and England were rightly favourites for the game.
I think England’s biggest stroke of luck was Phillips staying on the pitch after stamping on Kroos’ leg. When you look at what Ampadu got sent off for in Wales’ game against Italy, I think Phillips was incredibly fortunate.
I was disappointed Kane scored, I was quite enjoying the idea of getting all the way to the final with only goals from Sterling!
Hope you’re right Ferrite – I really do.
By the way I’m not moaning about England. Just sharing an opinion on the manager and his apparent similarities with our own.
You called him a “winker”, what would you say if you were complaining?
There still seems to be a large set of England fans who still aren’t happy that England aren’t winning well enough.
Would still have him here though unless we start pulling some signings out of the bag sharpish!
Well that’s a given! Just saying that he’s not the huge loss than some seemed to think.
But obviously he’s better than no one, which is who we’ve got at the moment! The game’s not even started and you’re moaning. England are rightly favourites tonight but even if they win the whole tournament, there’s a section of the England supporter base who will still moan that they didn’t win it well enough.
France ground their way to the last World Cup, it seems a reasonable model to follow!

June 29, 2021 at 1:59 pm in reply to: For the first time in my life I am jealous of the Cods #209400This is brilliant stuff. I’d be jealous of them if we’d won the Premier League last year. More power to their elbows, I hope they make a success of it (well, not too much of a success but it’d be nice to have the derby back again soon).
I’m sure I’ll be proven wrong but of all the “best players” we’ve had over the years, I never saw anything in Alex Gillead to get excited about, a very modest winger. Good luck to him at Bradford but I don’t think we’ll miss him as much as several other players.

How can we have a good relationship with local press while Max Bell is a correspondent, didn’t he fall out with Scunthorpe over his book sale?
If I remember rightly, the paper has been banned because the club wanted to charge a fee for access, I don’t know if that was ever resolved or not.
Think you’re looking at the wrong end of the table Ferrite!
Odds on relegation were not available on the site I looked on!
From what I understand the more tickets sold the more money off the season tickets for everyone.
Great idea, I think other teams have done this in the past, an innovative way of drumming up more support and capitalising on their promotion.
Average 2/3 posts per day usually rugby or city, seldom features anything south bank. Doubtful if the club give them anything to work with, much like the Telegraph who get plenty of Cods info.
On that point, is the Telegraph still banned from Glanford Park? If so, that really needs to be resolved immediately, there is no way we should be at odds with the local paper when we need every bit of good publicity we can get.

No doubt there will be a statement soon telling us we have to buy season tickets to help the club.

Do you really need the club to come out and state the obvious every pre season?
Would it make you feel better if they released a statement saying “we are looking to sign players”?
Out of interest, do you think the club is doing enough to generate interest among its fans (customers) at this crucial time? There’s arguably never been a more important pre-season for this club, when you combine the twin threat of near-relegation to the Conference last season with the fact that no one has been to a game for 15 months.

Slightly demeaning to other sides. Unless you were joking?
I’m not sure mine was the most demeaning statement to other sides on this thread but I’ll accept the criticism!
But let’s be right, England have a talented squad and have yet to concede a goal. Germany will be a real test but get past them and I really can’t see any of the other sides in that half of the draw, with the possible exception of the Dutch, stopped them from reaching the final.
That’s not to say there aren’t some good sides, Sweden are under-rated and the winner of Wales v. Denmark could easily make the semis, but England or Germany would be very short odds with the bookmakers to make the final and for good reason.
But compare it to Belgium or Portugal who, after winning that tough match, will probably then have to play Italy, followed by France or Spain!
Wet too Inspector, I think it was flooded off. I also went there from Scunny one Boxing Day in time for the match to be called off at 2pm for a frozen pitch.
That first time in 99/00 wasn’t all bad though – I popped into a pub for a pint before the bus home and it only cost 95p! That was 30p less than the student union! Result!
