There’s a decent revenue jump in League 2 from TV money and higher gate receipts. With a sensible wage budget there’s no way we should forsee being financially worse off a league higher and act to avoid it.
February 25, 2026 at 8:17 am #316678If we struggled in league 2, which would be highly likely, I can’t see where much extra gate revenue would come from, bar a few obvious bigger away followings, and given our home attendance may well drop with a lowly league position.

February 25, 2026 at 8:23 am #316679Last night was an improved effort, which was good to see though i’m not sure York were even in top gear and they were way better than us and everyone else. The squad cant cope with injuries/loss of form.
Defence Horton FL level has lost his form, Rose FL injured, the rest of the defence only just about NL level.
Midfield Ewing FL loss of form, Rowley NL loss of form, Westbrooke FL and the only one in form, Beeston FL just getting back into full flow needs a run of games, rest just about NL level on good days
Forwards Roberts FL and carrying us at present, Smith NL level needs game time, Whitehall just NL out of form, all the rest just about NL level or not seen enough of them, Carlton NLN.
Just need to put the same effort in, play at pace and get a centre half on loan to organise the chaosAgree with much of that. Based on the season so far, including this bad run, I’d say those judged NL level are average NL players. Boyce said in his recent BBC interview that he hasn’t been offered a new contract and is already looking at life beyond football. With the best will in the world, and he sounds a great lad, his head may be somewhere else. Not Ideal with a talented but inexperienced young keeper behind him.
Don’t know what’s going on with Evans. He’d get in most NL teams on form.
February 25, 2026 at 8:31 am #316681Show some ambition Scunthorpe, surely some clubs surviving in League 2 have smaller budgets than the Iron or we will be non league forever.
And AB not happy at moans behind him that we should beat York, saying we were never going to match them, should always play to win..February 25, 2026 at 8:35 am #316683It felt a bit like when we played Notts County the season we were relegated into NLN, just witnessing an absolute gulf in quality.
The players we have are over achieving as a group to be where we are. If we can pick up enough points to stay in the playoffs we’ve got a chance. Personally I’d start Jones in goal next game to give Mahady a break and look to get a half decent centre half in on loan if that is possible.
Sounds like Evans is carrying an injury from what AB said on Humberside.1 user thanked author for this post.

The gate receipts aren’t going to be that much different.
Higher level of football = higher entry fee? Times are tough, put the entry fee up too much and it could price some out of attending. We are also attracting higher crowds now than when we were in L2.
Better to be a bigger fish in a smaller pond?Additionally, the EFL money at L2 level ain’t nowt to write home about.
TV money? How many times are L2 teams broadcast a season? 1… 2… ?
You’d imagine the money all goes to the home team?
Do less turn up to watch live if it’s on TV?February 25, 2026 at 8:43 am #316686“Ambition” – didn’t the Swannster initially have that… didn’t end well.
“Sensible wage budget” – wins you nowt in modern football. You need owners with very very big pockets and even bigger egos. It’s all about money, money, money!

February 25, 2026 at 9:01 am #316689Think Butler’s post match interview is honest and enlightening regarding player injury status, performances, strengthening possibilities, etc. Certainly good to hear an honest assessment of the state of play with our loud armchair manager noise…

February 25, 2026 at 9:07 am #316690Could it be a tactical switch? A few weeks ago the aim was 2nd/3rd to get a home SF. Has player power forced a decision to try for all away play off games?

February 25, 2026 at 9:10 am #316691Yeah, he’s frustrated and I get the feeling that he believes the average supporter doesn’t understand the mammoth job on his hands
His hands are tied, we’ve always being a BB&S club and will continue to be so.
He’s done a magnificent job with the lack of finances & facilities at his disposal
Bravo Stan!
We’re performing better than we expected.
We’ll finish higher than we predicted.
The current run / form is a glitch… all clubs hit a dodgy spot at some point in the season. Except maybe York? Their bad runs occurred in Sept & Oct… two draws on the bounce on both occasions :-)February 25, 2026 at 9:10 am #316692So. Relegation form now but not going down this season.
Hmm.
At least we’ve had a decent gate twice recently.
How long before retained lists become the main topic on Bru?
Anyone know? – Did the new contract actually arrive on AB’s lap?1 user thanked author for this post.
February 25, 2026 at 9:24 am #316693I’ve a season ticket holder for over 30 years but because the lack of winning I am considering not renewing If teams bring in players I expect they would respond like Boston and Aldershot have or is it the management who can’t see want we want.I didn’t go last night because I knew what would happen

February 25, 2026 at 9:26 am #316694Ultimately it is about money but it needs a balanced approach, previous money bags owner went gung ho, we were out bidding teams for players like Bradford City with 15000 season ticket holders by offering more money, just ridiculous. Can’t see us progressing back into the EFL without some serious balanced investment which comes with at least a 5 year plan to improve the first team and structure some kind of youth team , at the moment we are where we are because of our financial situation, the begging bowl approach to funding a new pitch should tell us all that.

February 25, 2026 at 9:28 am #316695this run of form started when we sent players out on loan who are better than their replacements

February 25, 2026 at 9:45 am #316700If we have to send players out on loan because we can’t give them game time then our squad is too big, not too small!

February 25, 2026 at 9:46 am #316701I agree mick. One area where AB cannot escape criticism is his recruitment of loan players. I have always maintained that loanees should be guaramteed starters if they are to have the necessary impact. Westbrooke & TSF aside how many starts have we had from the likes of Eze, Chadwick, Hurst & Dausch.

February 25, 2026 at 10:24 am #316702He can’t escape criticism over the loans but he’s still on a learning curve as a manager and I’m prepared to give him a fair chance especially this season. Also realistically with our budget in this league who are we expecting to get ? TSF was excellent and got plucked straight back out for an EFL loan at the cods.
February 25, 2026 at 10:35 am #316703As to players recalled, the main being Dec Howe. First Butler said it was Howe that wanted more game time.
Then Butler said he loaned him out because Howe had a bad attitude.
Awaywego mentions this Howe recall, Butler is so stubborn, i think Howe will be on loan for the rest of the season.
Butlers stubbornest is costing us.
wait for the boos AB..2 users thanked author for this post.
February 25, 2026 at 11:16 am #316705He is on loan for the rest of the season Bhuna their webpage say’s so, I’m with the Altrincham fan who said we announced only a month deal just to appease our fans.

wait for the boos AB..When has he said that? I can’t believe this still needs to be said as well but he can’t be recalled during the initial 28-day loan. This has been the case for all players that have been sent out.

February 25, 2026 at 11:35 am #316708It’s not been said at all. Completely made up.
Plus in his post match interview about recalling loan players last night Butler said Howe’s initial month loan spell isn’t over yet, so let’s see after that. He also referred to him as ‘Dec’ not Howe, which didn’t intimate a bust up.
One player he said doesn’t want to come back right now because he can’t guarantee him starts. Sounds like Beck and that would be reasonable as most supporters wanted him away anyway.

Lol, ‘the Altrincham fan’. Yeah, that’s reassuring.
February 25, 2026 at 12:05 pm #316711Not posted in a few years so its nice to be back in the mix. Just a few things from last night i wasn’t surprised with the lineup as i think ewing looks a shadow of himself as lot of mentioned. Also i thought roberts was starved on the left wing when we know he likes to cut in from the right, for me whitehall spends alot of time trying to just wind defenders up and the ref instead of playing to his own strengths. Id personally bring howe back and get the ball more on the floor with two up front instead of howe being wasted out wide majority of the time. I think we also need to put jones in goal, mahady is very questionable to say the least at times but like watson came up with the odd decent save to put some credit in his bank as we saw last night in the first half and at rochdale. Hope your all well its been a while. UP THE F*CKING IRON

Aye, and a bloke in our local said Newcastle had made an agreement with Real Madrid to sign Mbappe!
Rest of the season because he has a bad attitude? The Chinese whispers that is Social Media.
Or is Dec the new Bobby Grant?

February 25, 2026 at 12:37 pm #316715‘Whitehall spends a lot of time trying to just wind defenders up and the ref instead of playing to his own strengths’
He’s infuriating for his own fans, let alone officials and opponents. Maybe he thinks being a WUM is his main strength. Butler should have a word .
February 25, 2026 at 12:51 pm #316716Consolidate in NL which was the aim of everybody (almost) at the start of the season IIRC.
February 25, 2026 at 1:02 pm #316717Reply to Rene on P1, sorry.
February 25, 2026 at 1:50 pm #316718The Alty fan was only offering his take on the situation Deerey, NI, that is all to do with his club ocn their forum ya know much the same as we do, he realises that one club is lying, that’s true to say even you have to agree on that one.
Having seen my club over the years putting falsehoods out and been devious to say the least at times I agree his take on the issue.
If I’m wrong then I’ll be the first to say so.2 users thanked author for this post.
February 25, 2026 at 2:21 pm #316719Or it could have simply been a mistake by their club Comms person? Time will tell
