More interestingly. We aren’t to sign another Gk.
Did he say that? That we aren’t looking for another keeper?
All my optimism has gone. I was starting to feel really good about this season.
August 19, 2020 at 9:46 pm #193617Rory is Peters blue eyed boy.
August 19, 2020 at 9:50 pm #193618Actually I thought the podcast team did a brilliant job. They sorted out the sensible questions and put them into a logical order. Past, present and future. Mr Swann as always was forthright and as honest as most could have excepted. He was clear it is important to stay in the football league. Accepted stability was more likely than top 6. He also plans for the under 23’s to bring through some decent prospects to sell as a way of balancing the books. I have been involved in many board meetings where the discussion was of a much lower standard than we heard tonight. Well done Iron-Bru podcast team, you have gained Mr Swann’s respect. Something other media channels could learn from.

He said Rory had had some bad luck with injuries but that he (PS) wants him to become our #1. And that with Adam and Tom we had adequate back-up!
Hmm!
Still the recruitment “committee” I/C of transfers. Mooney, Jarvis & Vincent had been “tracked” for over a year.
So about as fast as the Government’s App then!
Glad your glass is still full Brian. I think mine has lager in it when I ordered Pale Ale!
August 19, 2020 at 10:26 pm #193625His problems aren’t injury related they are ability related.

Topics: 4That made me feel hopeful for the future. I fully expect it to be dented again when reality sinks in and we’re scrambling around for whatever points we can grab and have half the squad out with injuries.
August 19, 2020 at 11:59 pm #193628After listening to this latest podcast, I feel very much assured by what Mr Sqann came up with , and he did not appear to dodge any questions pot to him.
The thing is now for supporters to get behind the club, Chairman, Managers and players, and although I have no idea on the new players, feel that we have eight or nine very good League players that can easily hold their own in League Two, and also that the atitude sounds to be a lot better throughout the club and team than it has been during the past two yearJust hoping that this b;oody virus wasws off to a;;ow fans back tpo watch a few matches, but with Peter stating October, it doesn’t look as though Septembers cup matches will be open for fans.
Anyway good luck to the club, and also to it’s supporters.
August 20, 2020 at 8:49 am #193629But yeah Goode never showed any signs of potential here, his hoofball style suits Northampton though, confirmed by him charging upfield to take every throw.
Clearly Brentford see him differently.

Wrong thread?
Rory Delap made the Premier League with little ability apart from being able to throw the ball a long way.August 20, 2020 at 10:21 am #193635Yeah, I don’t know what happened there Cass, I don’t know how I could have quoted you on a different thread! Computer gremlins I reckon.
Anyway, my point was that Brentford are very much a side that plays out from the back and the team is largely made up of players who can pass the ball. They must have seen something in Goode to spend the money on him and they have a pretty good track record of picking players.
August 20, 2020 at 10:59 am #193636If we’re stuck with Watson between the sticks we may as well throw in the towel now.
August 20, 2020 at 12:12 pm #193638I also have major concerns about the keeper, but the rest of the interview was encouraging. If Cox and Lillis can get this team fully fit and play fast paced attacking football there is hope for the new season.
Hopefully the days of buying players in their mid 30s has gone.
August 20, 2020 at 1:00 pm #193640Age is nothing but a number, depends on who the player is. If we didn’t sign Musselwhite, Crosby and Barraclough in 2004 (all very much in their 30s at the time) then we more than likely wouldn’t have had our most successful period this generation!
August 20, 2020 at 1:08 pm #193641You are right BLT, but there will be a longer list of has beens.
August 20, 2020 at 1:25 pm #193646I do recall Burney saying Ivan Toney was no good though
In the first spell, he was less than impressive but picked it up at the back end of it. I don’t think any body really rated him at that point…you included. You used to rip into him, we all did.
Lol funny you picked that as an example, you daft sod !
That must mean your questionable then as well pele, you can join me old boy !

Pele Goode captained a team to promotion to league one, earned himself a 4yr contract, 1+ million contract to a top end championship club in 1, yes, 1 season.
To show what he has this early on would indicate to any body with any sense that he always had the ability…he’s made the progress he has in 1 season, not 10…you moron.
I did say you could join me in having questionable football judgement but you can sit in the corner with a dunce’s cap on lol
August 20, 2020 at 3:26 pm #193649WG – try that again without throwing the insults around, no need for it, just because someone disagrees with you.
August 20, 2020 at 3:52 pm #193652I hope I’m still around in 2030 when Watson is a Prem goalkeeper and WG can remind us that he was the only one that appreciated his ability.
August 20, 2020 at 4:17 pm #193653Well put Brianiron.
Brilliant podcast and I hope we can put the distrust issue behind us now. We actual have a management duo who want the relevant departments to have an input.
If we have an exceptional U18 why shouldn’t they be considered for 1st team action.
Cautiously optimistic.
August 20, 2020 at 6:15 pm #193662‘Moron’. If it’s good enough for Chris…
August 20, 2020 at 6:37 pm #193667By far the best podcast with Swann; great job all round.
Good to hear we are now running on a more sustainable model and were set to break even; I agree with him that the new salary cap is unfair and in fact was put in place to stop clubs such as ourselves and bury spending 150% of turnover and wages.
Still not convinced on our transfer committee and I hope it doesn’t hinder his relationship with cox. Additionally his assessment of our squad’s experience was naive, we definitely need some experience.
Overall, Felt more positive about the club’s prospects after listening though.
August 20, 2020 at 7:23 pm #193674Great to read your post BS, it is time for a little optimism after recent dealings. As we know there will likely be plenty of opportunity to stick the knife in further into the season.
August 20, 2020 at 7:34 pm #193678Excellent interview with Ernie, he does seem to be learning from past mistakes although still seems to like to tell everyone it’s his money so he will call the shots, well it is so I suppose he can!
I’m full of optimism for the coming season, just hope we get a few quick wins and get some early momentum. -
